Hello everybody, I hope you are well! 🎀 My name is Stephanie and my channel is all about sewing! My goal here is to make all types of courses that will help you if you are an aspiring fashion designer. Fashion school is not available for everyone so I will try my best to provide you with all the knowledge you could need. As of now, I have made a Beginner Sewing Course, but I am already working on an Intermediate Sewing Course, a Pattern Making Course and a Draping Course! So join me on this adventure if you want an accompanied guide on sewing from A to Z 🤍
Beginner Sewing Course [Day 28] How to sew a shirt and tank top
Hello everybody, I hope you are well! 🎀 Welcome to Day 28 of my Beginner Sewing Course. Today, we are finally making some clothes!! I’m so happy that you are still here and I hope you’re ready to take on this bigger project. The first thing you’ll need to do is print the pattern actual scale or 100%. On the Mood website, they claim their patterns work for both Letter and A4 but I have only tested the former. Next, you’ll place all the sheets in their respective order and tape them together. Cut the lines for your size and place the pattern pieces on your fabric aligning the grain line with the straight grain of the fabric. Once that’s done, you can start the fun stuff, sewing ✨
I hope everything goes well for you and even if it’s not perfect on your first try, that’s okay!! Practice makes perfect 🤍

Aeeww the cat 😭 but yea I don’t have a sewing machine yet but I watched this to take notes for when I get mine on Christmas 😆
@@Leslie-qj1dd Awww that’s such a great Christmas gift!! Shows how excited you are if you’re already prepping in September hahahaha
Do you think i can make this top with musselin fabric?🤍
No unfortunately! For this project, it is imperative that you use stretch fabric 🥰
So if you don't have a surger, you just use a zigzag Stitch your sleeves and then back stitch when you're done?
@@allisonc.-jt4rc Yes that would be the best way to do it! I wouldn’t use the lighting bolt stitch for finishing edges though, I would use a wider zigzag!
Are there 3 more episodes? 😟
Yes!!! Sorry, I’ve been working on them, but they’re not going to come out until August 😭 I’m going to Mexico until the 9th 🎉 So once I’m back, I’ll start posting again! :))

If you can't afford a serger, you can also trim it with scissors. I know time-consuming, but that's what my grandmother would do. The sewing machine was an old push pedal machine that was basic. I hope that helps.
Yes! Sergers are quite expensive. I only got mine after I was certain I really loved sewing and knew I was gonna get my money’s worth!
Thank you!! I've been trying to teach myself to sew since the 80s, I'm 45, with absolutely no luck! I can hand sew, but I gave up since i really wanted to use a sewing machine! I could never get my bobbin and thread to work well together! Just got my mom's sewing machine and am aready to give it a spin again!! I got a 5 year old grandson who has an imagination out of this world, and we have a ton of creations to create 🥰💜❤️
Wow! Quite the sewing journey you have there! It’s wonderful that you’re including your son in your hobbies. Thank you for sharing, I’m happy to help ☺️🤍

This video is great! I'm not used to the terms in English, so it's really helpful! Thank you! 🤗
I’m so glad I can help with that! Sewing terminology can be confusing at first and hard to remember, but the more you do it, the easier it’ll get! Kind of like starting a new job and learning everyone’s name after a while hahaha
I'm just loving your videos and feeling so much motivated! Thank you so much! I really like your sense of humor, hahahahaa 🤗🤗
Omg you are the kindest!! Thank you so much and I’m so glad you’re feeling motivated 🫶🏻 I’m super excited for you to start your journey and I’m glad to help at any point!! 🤩
Brilliant ❤
Awww you’re so sweet 🤍
Don’t let the fabric hang… let it hang for 24 hours first
Once the fabric has been cut, if it hangs off from your machine, the waist might stretch and become a size to big! But after the waist has been sewn, it will no longer stretch. The length on the other hand will and that’s why we wait 24 hours before hemming it so it doesn’t become uneven :)
Hm. What youre talking ist Not what youre doing
When printing a sewing pattern, make sure the document is: - One sided - Scaled to 100%
So, if you're making an elastic sleeve cuff, would you make the elastic slightly more than your wrist since it has to go over the largest part of your hand? 🤔
Yes exactly! It also depends how big your hands are. Women’s hands are on average smaller than men’s so sometimes, the difference between the hand and the wrist won’t be too too different. But still, you should measure the circumference of the hand and work with that measurement for the elastic!

I'm glad that you're better! Thanks for the tutorial!
Me too 😅 You’re welcome love
Very helpful video, thank you! One thing that's unclear to me for this type of seam is why one should press it open in this case, when folding it back for the next line of stitches will put it back the same way it was before.
In this case, you press it open not because we will see the seam on the inside garment but because it makes it easier to fold it for the next line of stitches! But you’re right! Since we are pressing it again right after, it’s okay to skip that step ☺️ You could even skip the pressing all together and it would still be the exact same seam just a little less neat looking!
@@lafemmedanslart Thank you, that really clears it up!
@@ingevanriezen1646 You’re welcome love ❤️

Thank you for this tutorial. I'm currently learning/watching how to make a sleeve and attach it to a sleeveless dress. I'll definitely save this video for when I make my first skirt and other projects :3
No way!! I was literally just trying to figure this out for a pattern I’m making! Funny coincidence hahah
Brother sewing are also great machines. The project runway ones
Yes! I’ve heard great things about that one, too bad it’s discontinued :/ But you’re right, Brother has a lot of trust worthy machines
I'm wondering if you're in Nunavut now? 🤔 I was worried that the videos would end or pause for a long time. 😉 😊
I am right now yes! But don’t worry, I prefilmed up to Day 26 and I’ll finish filming when I come back on the thirteenth ☺️ There shouldn’t be any disruption in the schedule!
This would look cute on the bottom of a skirt! Thank you for the tutorial😊
It totally would!
Please ma what's the importance of having this serger machine? Can one improvise
A serger is a great tool to finish the raw edges of your garment. It prevents the fabric from fraying and the stitches from coming undone overtime. It isn't necessary for beginners though! You can simply finish off your edges with a zigzag stitch or an overcast stitch (Day 8) The serger simply gives a professional finish, so this video is meant for people who own a serger!
I'm really following the class
That's amazing! You got this :))
Thank you for this 🤗
You’re welcome 🤍
Super helpful! Thanks for the guide! Just picked up sewing again after not sewing since I was a kid. Hems are my enemy 😂
I feel that 😂 Glad you’re picking it back up!
Thank you so much for this series. I've finally got budget to buy sewing machine but i don't have the budget to go to classes, even the cheapest one online(also I'm very shy). Even if i had budget i won't be able to go to classes alone so the Struggle is real😭😭
Omg congrats on your new machine!! And yeah fashion school is so expensive I feel you
Fabric is an extensive topic and yet you managed to cover it so clearly and concisely. Thank you!
I'm glad you think so!
"The Hufflepuff of fabrics " 😂😂
Hahahaha I didn't know how else to put it LOL
I have a Singer Simple 3337. For some reason, the needle keeps unthreading. Ivory watched the singer video. I know that the bobbin and the needle are both threaded properly. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I did it properly the first few times, but now it's unthreading every time.
Hey Allison! So there’s a couple of things it could be. You said you threaded the machine correctly, but maybe try to completely unthread it again first (upper thread and bobbin) and then try again. Make sure when you’re doing it, you’re adding a bit of tension so the thread goes exactly where it’s supposed to go. Try to thread the needle by hand from front to back and make sure you catch the bobbing thread with your needle. Once you catch the bobbing thread, pull it so you have two pretty long tails of about 5 to 6 inches (upper thread and bobbin thread). As you start sewing, hold them so they can’t unthread. You can let go after a couple of stitches. If that doesn’t work, take a took at the thread you’re using. Make sure it’s good quality thread that isn’t too old. Old or weak thread can break easily. I suggest Guttermann. Same thing with needles. If you’re using an old needle, it might not be functional anymore. Last thing I can think of is whether your take up lever is high enough. The thread take up lever controls the flow of the upper thread while sewing so if it’s not in the right position, your needle won’t be in the right position and the machine will unthread itself. The lever on your machine specifically is located at step 5 of the thread guide. Find it and put it at its highest position possible (that will ensure the needle is also at its highest position too)! I hope this helps 🤞🏻
@@lafemmedanslart Thank you!
