There was contact, so in today’s terms a VAR would have definitely confirmed it.

I think if you’re interpreting the letter of the law as strictly as possible, it’s a foul. However, common sense would say to not call this one a foul because any competitive footballer would be expected to play through the contact shown in this video. I personally would never call this a foul anywhere on the field, let alone inside the penalty area. But the only opinion that matters is that of the referee in the match.

I would not have given it for wearing shorts that are too short and acting like a girl after being touched.

The notion that a foul is "not enough" for a penalty has always annoyed me. Would it be a free kick if commited outside the box? Then it should be a penalty inside the box. Everything else is double standards. Does this lead to too many penalty goals? Then maybe that indicates that the football rules suck and need a rework.

I am impressed by all the people in the comment section having a clear opinion on the contact. I can barely see that the two players are somewhat nearby. Did the defender pushed the attacker with his hands? It is penalty - it does not matter the intensity of the contact, it never matters. Did the defender kick the player's leg? It is penalty, if the contact of the legs is in the box: it does not matter if the attacker did not fall down. Did it only touched him without pushing, i.e. extending the arms? It is not penalty. But how can someone be so sure of anything with this quality it is a mystery!

Why didnt the player who was touched perform a somersault and roll around on the floor like we're used to?
