Pheasant Hunting Vol 5 - 2024
This is the second video from my South Dakota pheasant hunting trip. Birds are everywhere and the shooting wasn't half bad. Enjoy. #pudelpointer #drahthaar #pheasanthunting

Pheasant Hunting Vol 4 - 2024

This is my first hunting trip to South Dakota for pheasants in 2024, and bird numbers were great. The dry conditions made scenting tough, but if you put a couple good dogs on the ground then good things happen! Enjoy.

It just never gets old. Our season marches on, and as the corn comes down the hunting only gets better. #birddog #pheasanthunting #uplandhunting

Volume 2! 2024 continues to be the year of the rooster. Lido and Lena do their best to pin a few birds so that we can knock them down. The Dakotas never disappoint! #birddog #pheasanthunting #northdakota #southdakota

AND WE'RE OFF! Wild roosters, ugly dogs, sunsets and spent shells. Lena the Drahthaar and Lido the Pudelpointer lead me through the prairie to start our season. These are clips from the first few pheasant hunts of the year. Enjoy! #pheasanthunting #birddog #drahthaar #pudelpointer

your camo shotgun reminds me a the time I was hunting and a co hunter shot a pheasant- set the gun down in the grass to retrieve the bird, it took 3 of us to find his shotgun again.
I miss the prairies of the Midwest and the small game they contain. Could use a little less of fbomb in the posts.
what choke and size shot?
My uncles place in nebraska was loaded with pheasants in the 70s but not anymore.
Very Nice
Great job thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Still a great video … I always enjoy when I see a new one come out!
Thanks again!
Hell yah, like your pov camera work. Sad i did see the pup tho lol
Thanks for watching!
Went on my first ever pheasant hunt in SD last month. I'm HOOKED! I need more time behind my shotgun and some extra time on the stair-master before walking through October cat-tails and rushes, but I'll be back. Thanks for the videos and scratching that itch to get back in the fields!
Thanks for watching. Careful, this passion will rob you of time and money and you'll be happy for it!
The color grade is why I clicked. 😉 I like the direction of it, but I'd say keep working on it until you're happy. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the feedback!
what kind of camera mount are you using?
The Stuntman Shoulder mount off Amazon. Thanks for watching!
Nice dogs.....
Thank you!
Very much enjoyed the video!
Thank you!
As always thx so much, enjoyed it.
Thank you!
Is it common to shoot such low birds in the US like this? Especially over your dogs? Each to their own but you'd be marched off a shoot if you shot like this in the UK. Low birds are considered unsporting and dangerous.
Thanks for watching!
I hunt with a group in Kansas, our rule is no shooting of low birds after one dog got shot and died.
Have watched your videos and don’t know enough to know what state you’re hunting in.
I hunt the upper Midwest, primarily North and South Dakota with a little Minnesota mixed in.
Was that early in the season or are you still finding some young ones? I got a few young ones the first week but they have been fully colored after that.
These are all from the first couple weeks.
Good hunting! I’ve been getting Kirby (Lido’s son) out for some exposure/hunts the past month. He’s got a few roosters over him, stuck a few nice points, really fun to watch him work and develop.
That awesome! Is he out of Emmylou or Nash? If I didn't have 3 dogs I would have taken a pup, so please share updates so I can live vicariously!
Kirby is out of the Nash litter, and he just turned 5 months this week. He is a bundle of energy, but overall he is becoming a great family companion, and he is learning very quickly in the field.
Great work! Dogs are looking good.
Thanks buddy!
Looks like great fun 👍
It never gets old!
That's why the ruffed grouse is the "king". The cover he inhabits, the thunderous flush, and the quick snap shooting required to get him. Pheasants are easy. They are big, slow, and there is no cover to speak of to block your shot. 😂😂
You should give Mearns a try. Smaller, faster and plenty of cover for them to duck behind!
nice hunting!
Thank you!
What over under are you shooting?
Franchi Instinct 16ga
Thank you, enjoyed and subscribed.
Thanks and welcome!
Great retrieves
Thank you! It's been a dry year, so the dogs have had to work for the retrieves.
@@MissedAgainYT I live in California, so I am familiar with hunting in dry conditions. Now, there are no pheasants in California.
Love your videos!
Thank you!
Hello sir, excellent shooting. what is the difference between GWP and Pudelpointer in praxis? thanks. Greetz from Belgium. Krist
after 35 years of german shorthair, i am preparing for a pudelpointer. What is your experience and what's the difference in hunting with a GWP? Thanks for your advice. Best regards from Belgium. Krist
No difference in hunting, both are great. Small differences in disposition. Pudels are big lovers, GWP tend to be a bit more aloof, but still friendly.
LMAO!! I feel your pain!
Sometimes it be like that!
@@MissedAgainYT if you could have anything in the world what it will be
Nice work. I only saw one Sharpie all of last season. But I wasn't looking all that hard.
Thanks!
That opening was Awesome!!🤣🤣🤣 I feel your pain!!
All I can do is laugh!
Your GoPro should be voice command controlled so you don't have to keep putting your gloved hand in front of the camera.... Good video otherwise!
I don't find the voice activation to be very reliable. Thanks!
Great video! Which kennel do your dogs come from?
The draht is slaney-vale and the pudel is Cedarwoods.
Thank you! Are they the same age? Which one did you get first and why did you switch to the other breed? Any issues with the DD and excessive fur drive?
The DD was first. She's 8. The PP is 4. I'd get another DD in a heartbeat, I just had the option of getting a very well bred PP and I couldn't pass it up. They are both great dogs and excel at different things. Some DD do have high fur drive, but mine not so much. I highly recommend Slaney-Vale for a well rounded DD.
@MissedAgainYT sorry two more questions: between the two of them which one would you say is the best retriever? Softest mouth especially. Also how much did you pay for each?
My first Draht was a Slaney Vale, Hugh is an excellent breeder & well respected in the DD community. All 3 of mine have very high retrieving desire.
Nice!!
Thanks!
Great dog work!
Thanks!
Hello MissedAgain, I'm from Arizona and hunt both Gambles & Mearns quail. You do a great job with your videos. Thanks for taking us along on your hunt.
Thanks dude! Arizona is such a special place. Thanks for the nice words.
Great video. I'm heading down from mn for the first time for the last week of the season.
Thanks! Best of luck to you. I'm going to be brutally honest...if you're heading to "Mearns Country" you're probably going to be disappointed with both Mearns numbers and desert numbers. It's just a tough year. I've been here for almost a month. As the season has progressed, it's only gotten harder.
WTF don’t you take glove off?
That would have made a lot of sense
I could tell the dogs paws were soar or something (sand burs, cactus, etc) on that first retrieve, just looked like he/she was walking gingerly. Also, great point about gloves, which is why I hate wearing them. From mishaps like yours or fumbling shells etc... just not a fan. You're not the first to say numbers were down in AZ this year.
Lena has really tough pads, but this rock is an incredibly rough and sharp variety. I have to watch out for her, she doesn't know when to quit. Orvis used to make an incredibly thin yet tough glove that was great for early season and the desert stuff. I was hoping the final rise ones would be a good substitute, but not so much.
Why is TH-cam just recommending your channel now? Looks like I've got a lot to catch up on. Nice work
Thank you!
Nicely done! It's a tough year for sure. That steep stuff looks fun!!
It was fun, but we're just a bunch of masochistics, aren't we?
@@MissedAgainYT Yes...yes we are!!
@@MissedAgainYThello nice videos i have hunting videos on youtube
Pudelpointers are GREAT! I certainly love mine.
They are a great breed!
A compound? Really?.....next time leave that guy back at the truck. 😂
Haha he's put me on more pheasants than I can count, so I let him chase this wild hare lol
Nothing the matter with that blind.
Thanks!
Great video. In southern AZ to hunt mearns this week! Any recommendations where I should head?
The gfp units breakdowns is where I'd start. You'll know you're in the right place if you see hunters all around! It's a tough year, but if you walk enough you'll find a covey or two. Good luck!
I loved the video. I live in mn, and I'm going to make my first trip ever to Arizona on February 2nd.
It's great down here! Took me a couple trips to educate myself, but I love it.
Nice shooting and good dog work. Not sure which editing software you use but if you do voice isolation, it'll reduce the wind noise. I use Davinci Resolve.
That's a great tip. I use DaVinci but I've barely stuck my toe in the ocean that is DaVinci.
Why isn't there any hens flushing with the roosters?
There's usually hens somewhere around the roosters. They don't always flush at the same time. Late season we tend to flush the hens first and the roosters run ahead of us.
I HATE BARBED WIRE!!🤬🤬 I almost lost my chocolate lab when he ran through a barbed wire fence and sliced an artery, and he almost bled to death. My vet said he would have bled out if I hadn't rushed him in!
Both my dogs have many stitches from wire. I hate it too!
Couldn’t agree more. Every time I’m out in SD my lab gets tore up. Last fall 8 sutures from a big tear. What happened to your lab is exactly my fear.
Picking up a Pudelpointer pup next month. Can't wait to start training a new pup again.
It's a lot of work but it's always worth it in the end!
