Nope. If Pelini was such a sure-fire national championship-winning coach, why is he at Youngstown St. now and not, oh, I don't know, Auburn or USC or Florida or Miami? Top-draw coaches' career trajectories go Bowling Green->Utah->Ohio St., for example. Not Nebraska->Youngstown St. (or Ohio for that matter). Recruiting is the lifeblood of any program. As Switzer said, "It's not the X's and O's, it's the Jimmys and Joes." Solich grossly under-recruited. Callahan wasn't afraid to aim high, but his tenure was undermined because he didn't grovel at the feet of Coach Osborne. He had resurrected the offense that Solich had let die (someday, actually check out the year-by-year numbers). He didn't get the chance to rebuild the defense. Pelini resumed the under-recruiting. When you bring in a QB that throws like an uncoordinated koala to run your program, you've missed the recruiting boat. If you don't recruit at the 3.5-star-and-above level, your program will not compete with the Top 15 or 20. Hopefully Frost will be a great recruiter, and not be afraid to go after blue chips. No 5-star player ever accepted a scholarship that wasn't offered to him.
