I’m so grateful and blessed that the UMC has moved to affirm and bless homosexual relationships. As a not straight man that’s struggled with my faith for over two decades, while living in this reality as a not straight man - seeing large denominations move to not only tolerate, but bless non-monogamous, non-heterosexual, unmarried sexual relationships within the church, it affirms my belief, and eliminates my suspicions and doubt, that the Christian narrative is real. The Bible teaches there will be a large falling away, and people will twist the New Testament to fit their lifestyles. I’m now walking away from homosexuality, and fully embracing Calvinist teachings, because the ministers delivering the “good news” from a Calvinist perspective are correct. Without men like Guthrie, I would have continued to live in sin, unsure if Christianity was even real or not; but now I know it is, and living a homosexual lifestyle is both repugnant and sinful. This current life is fleeting and temporary, eternity is forever. I do not want to spend my eternity in damnation.
