Because it's based on a beloved book series. And it's so much more than just the messy love triangle. It's about them coming together as they're all grieving Susannah and they all had to work together to save the house and help Conrad study for his exam. It's a romance drama. What do you expect?

They went over to the aunt's house to try to talk her out of it, tried talking to the dad, and belly was helping jere find conrad when he was missing from school. So yeah belly's mom successfully saved the day but that doesn't the kids did nothing.
