Warband Mods are still some of the best mods made for any game, ever tried Prophecy of Pendor?

Lever action rifles were generally reliable. The reason they weren't commonly used (they were usually used in Union regiments or brigades whose commanders personally paid for them) is the war department determined that they were inefficient because of how high the rate of fire was compared to bullet storage (and production costs). Generally the goal of a line of infantry is to hold up space on the field while another unit works around the flanks or artillery/cavalry tears apart the opposing army. A soldier with a muzzle loader was able to take 2-3 shots per minute, which given a standard loadout of 60 rounds per man let them stand on a volley line for half an hour before needing supply. A breach loading carbine or lever action repeater fired much faster which was great for a skirmish but would run through a soldier's standard supply in 5-10 minutes even if they took their time. Not much staying power. Multiply that across a 6 corps front and it's just a logistical nightmare to repel or launch a large scale assault, not to mention incredibly expensive to make 4 or 5 times as many bullets for a similar scale fight. They also didn't trust unspecialized soldiers not to waste ammunition. Reliability issues with breach loaders was an issue in artillery, particularly ships. Some of them were so bad there were early british dreadnoughts that had massive muzzle loading guns that had to be lowered within reach of the crews between every shot.
