As for Ash, you are doing great and this particular American accent you're using sounds like it is from Eastern America (New York, New Jersey, etc.). Depending on where you go in America, the exact sounds change and different areas have different accents even different dialects of English at times. This is because of the heavy influence immigrants have on the language in America. Different parts of America are known for different immigrant populations in its history. Not only that, but different social classes and ethnic groups also speak the language a bit differently. True "correct" English as they say is only in England because there it isn't mixed up with other languages so much like it is in America. Thinking of "that" like "dat" or "zat" is a key example of other languages changing the regional sound of the word from local immigrant populations' influence. Sometimes even Native American languages change the sound of English words in America. "Hey" for example is not English at all, but has been adapted & adopted to become a common American English word.

technically, "the" would be pronounced "ðə" with "ə" being a shwa (dropped vowel). It makes a sound like "uh" which many people think of like "a" but is actually slightly different because "a" sounds more like "ä". I am using what is known as the IPA (international phonetic alphabet) to explain these with IPA symbols.

"dat" and "da" are considered slang versions of "that" and "the" in American English. "ðat" and "ðe" with ð most closely sounding like ذ is the way it should sound if doing it properly (not slang). ذ > د
