That would be fine, except that anything put up by a denier is in response to a claim that we must do something to stop anthropogenic warming. It is common when debating things like the existence of god, for the person to make the god claim, to try and shift the burden of proof on to you to prove god doesn't exist. It's no different with the pagan mother nature worshiping religion who repeatedly tells you man is sinning against the planet and you have to atone for your sins. 'Oh, where's proof for your claim? ' 'The debate is over' 'When did the debate actually occur, I would like to read the transcripts?' Then you get a mixture of silence, abuse or a complete change of subject, by launching into a study on drought or something. If it's a scientific movement, just what exactly is the perfect level of Co2? Considering calcification in the oceans has been robbing Co2 from the atmosphere for millennia and the Co2 level at the time of the industrial revolution was nearly low enough plants couldn't breathe. The extra Co2 levels in recent years have resulted in a 15% greening of the planet, that has occurred mostly in arid areas your so called experts insisted would have more drought. How about the great barrier reef that not long ago got 400million dollars and Peter Ridd fired from his Cook university reef expert job, for basically for saying, the reef's in good shape. That this year has more coral on it than ever recorded before. Perhaps we could use a little more and some one should be financing studies into what the correct level of Co2 is, instead of just deciding it's a problem and it's all man's fault. How about how the IMF costs green energy? An open cut lithium mine is green and an open cut coal mine is the devil! They say the coal mine is subsidized, because of the damage it does to the environment. But the lithium mine has no such cost? I can talk about this stuff for hours. But Gerald is correct about one thing. He will never listen to me and many people on my side of the equation will never listen to him. My mind can be changed by evidence, I've not heard anything from him, that makes his prophesies about catastrophic weather in the future, sound correct. If he's not one of the one's working to save us from his catastrophe prophesy, but just a few inches of ocean increase and a few degrees celcius increase over the next hundred years, what the hell is he going to so much trouble for. So why do I do it? The explanation is simple: All the people in their private jets that just attended COP27, were informed that all the billions of dollars world wide spent to reduce global warming on this planet for decades, has made no difference. So like any religion, they double down and demand more sacrifices to be made! More money, means bigger tax and electricity bills. People who claim they are being scientific about this, usually post a link to the last IPCC document, that was authored by 200 people. In other words they try and bury you in detail. I have read much and I quote some of that back at them. But you don't cite an entire document, that requires a certain amount of knowledge and you would have to spend days reading. Because if you did that, they would just keep quoting entire studies to you all the time, not the part of the study that backs up what they just said. Why? Because most of them haven't studied it all and kept up to date either. So what they are relying on is the fallacy of authority. I have no problem quoting the bible or Quran, they don't get a completely new edition every 3 years. I don't argue much against Catholics lately, they are one of my strongest allies against the warming movement. These days the global warming movement, is far pushier than Christians in western countries.

I watched his debate with Heller. This man is incapable of reasoned debate based on empirical data. If he is the best the climate zealots can produce, then no wonder none of them will go on stage and openly debate the science.

The distillates from heavy oil is responsible for a larger number of plastics and synthetics, it's not just gasoline. Heavy oil was never about gasoline of burning fuel production but the things that can be made because of that oil grade. Even the electric car market needs oil to make 60% of the vehicle so oil is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Great interview. Seems to me that some of these ideas were put forth a few years ago and it's nice to see them getting ready to come on line. It's like gaining 30% increase in pipeline capacity plus reversing import line to export. Didn't they reverse Northern Lites pipeline that shipped the condensate?

How is Alberta going to make money off renewables to the same degree as a commodity like oil?

With more renewables, what's needed is storage not inflexible nuclear, and we need to decarbonise faster than even SMRs can manage, without leaving a toxic legacy.

the world does not need oil from these sands. this oil has too big a carbon energy footprint and leaves all that toxic tailings waste ponds. The oil companies have refused for 40 yrs to practice good stewardship of their operations and products. In a decade they will declare bankruptcy and leave the citizens with this toxic legacy including all the green house emissons in the atmosphere from steam heating underground this thick butimen with mega amounts of nat gas. Shame on the oil company leadership . who have been paid generously but have screwed the rest of us.

We've been waiting decades for a small 50-200MW fail safe nuclear reactor that could de-carbonize and reduce costs in the oilsands and power northern communities. Nothing, squat, F-all, bubkiss, nada, so the world has moved on with newer cleaner non-fuelled solutions. We can't wait and do nothing while the promises fail to materialize.

What is the time to build a nuclear power plant? 8 years? China is building 40-50 GW of solar PV a year and they have 11GW of nuclear under construction. As of December 2018, 457 reactors with a net capacity of 401,837 MWe are operational, and 54 reactors with net capacity of 55,364 MWe are under construction. No one knows if SMRs will be a timely and economical solution. After that planned Canadian demonstration plants we will have a better idea on time to build and economics.

Like the part about always searching for truth, it might be elusive but that doesn't lessen the importance of seeking it. And facts are an important path to the truth. We've gotten so far away from the definition of a "fact" now - that we're slipping further away from truth-seeking than we've been in a long while.

I thought that gas producers were using micro and mini gas turbine generators to burn flared gas and generate local power instead of flaring it. It is a great idea, I wonder what happened to it. Flare gas used in on-site microturbine Capstone Turbine Corporation has received an order for a C1000 microturbine. This video from Energi Media is very informative and a must view by all who are vested in public sector pensions in this province. I think the scenarios and the risks (to pension plan members) outlined by Mr. Meeker and Mr. Hislop explain clearly why the AB UCP gov't wants control of AIMCo. It's hard for me to believe, but given the track record of this UCP gov't and its leader, I am convinced we are going to be in for a tough fight for control of OUR pension plans. I also believe that collectively and by being well informed, we will prevail.
