This was a cool puzzle. Would the 1,5 pair in row 5 and the 1,3 pair in row 6 count as an x wing on 1’s? I had to restart completely at about the same spot that you did.

Very nice! Two of three starting baselines spotted and executed. You found the c2 baseline mostly. The 1 is forced onto c2r1 by the upward 1s limiting the r1 segment. The 7 at c2r7 triggers the r7 baseline. You did that one in pieces, high numbers first. r2 is another. Anyway, great solid solve. Thanks for sharing.

That’s a very solid solve path. Congrats. On segments like c6 (baselines), they tend to self resolve either high-to-low or more often low-to-high. If you blocked the unknown 1-3 first, the others play 4, 5, (6), 7, 8. Same as you reasoned out, but quicker. Nice solve really.

I think the main thing you didn’t scan was that c8 is entirely given at the start. It’s what I call a baseline. A baseline is a segment which generally records the length of its cross segments. They do not occur in Sudoku but they drastically speed up One Up solves. In this case, c8 is a pretty standard baseline. The cross segments are length 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 8, 8. c8 has a 2 in one of the length 8 segments. This means that c8 is 76821453 by force at the start state. In fact, you can start at any square in c8. It’s easier to see it (and fill it) by the segment lengths when you start lowest first tho. The 1 in r5, the 2 is given, the 3 in r8, etc. For a crazy example of a puzzle that is all about baselines, see puzzle 9. I have a reel of a 1’03 solve of it. It’s basically just plonking down knowns though.

Wonderful! For me, oh no, the puzzle broke me. I reset everything after around 16 minutes (approximately). Because the timer doesn't go back to zero when you reset, I solved it in 23:02. If One Up does reset the timer, then I would have solved it in my second attempt in around 7 minutes!
