November Float Tube Chatter Baitn' 🇫🇷 Fishing France
Taking the float tube out to the Old Rhein & Lake Vauban in Alsace. Using a few chatter baits that I purchased at Decathalon - I paired those up with WXM Yubari Grubs to make a nice little setup.

Big Fish in an 18th Century Canal 🇫🇷 Fishing France

Traveling back to Alsace, this was the first time fishing in the 18th Century Rhone-Rhine Canal. The Rhone-Rhine Canal project was first conceived during the reign of Napoleon - made during a time when the French wanted to connect large river systems for strategic purposes. The project has been updated and added to in the years since. Nowadays in Alsace, large portions of the canal are not used...

Today I take an exploratory trip to the Old Rhine / Canal d' Alsace - fishing in the Haut-Rhin Department of France (Department 68). There was lots of talking, lots of walking, lots of exploring but no fish. The naked old dude on an e-bike just before the end of the night was interesting. Rarely does one get to try and unsee something like that. // LINKS // Haut-Rhin (Department 68) Fishing: ww...

    Hey, no luck this time... The Rhine is difficult, at least for me... In the past i was successful at the "vieux Rhin" in Fessenheim. Its a uncanalised part of the Rhine. You have to wade it and you can do some spinning with Wobblers for (big)Trouts, Barbels, Asps and Chubs. Also you can do some nymphing or cast a streamer with a two handed Rod. Same in Chalampé and Kembs where is located the Rhine rapids named Barre d'Istein, very beautiful!

      Hi Ice! Hope you’re doing well 👍. Appreciate the tips and places .. I will note those for later exploration. Currently I am trying to get some cyprinid and predator fishing going - keeping myself busy and productive during the Cat. 1 closure. Steelhead and salmon - how I love those fish but damn they make for difficult content creation - fishing channels need action .. and those fish provide rare action.

    What's wrong with that old dude?! Some crazy ass exhibitionist out there in the woods🤣🤣🤣 Are there any bass in the river or maybe pikes? It doesn't seem to be fish rich like in the states...

    • @dbagzz
      @dbagzz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Lulu :) Yeah, that dude was ... interesting. My wife says in some Swiss Cantons people walk around naked all the time. Whaaaa?? Not that I am offended, but I wondered what if there was a family running about ... it's quite a popular place for all types of people. In terms of the river(s) itself, I have to believe there are some bunches of fish about - the location is particular because of the proximity to Germany and CH - lots of people, lots of access and lots of pressure (presuming). I have seen channels on YT where guys are catching barbel, red eye, brown trout, perch, pike etc ... just takes time to figure things out.

    I'm from Alsace. Did you flyfishing there?

    • @dbagzz
      @dbagzz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did fly fish but only for a few minutes this time - for trout … La Thur from Thann west up into the Ballon is great water - also I have had great days on the Doller near Masevaux. I believe Category 1 (trout) ends this weekend or next weekend (must check) but there are so many Category 2 spots that can be fished until December.

    • @icedaft
      @icedaft 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dbagzz La Thur is beautiful and has some Graylings! It is the best River in Alsace. I fish it in Thann usually, because it takes a lot of time to drive deeper in the Valley. The Doller is fine too but i never was there. It is on my Bucket list! The fishing in the première catégorie Rivers ends this Sunday but on my home River, la Fecht, i can fish on the deuxième catégorie part for Grayling deep in the winter😉

      @@dbagzz did you caught some Fish in the Thur and Doller?

    • @dbagzz
      @dbagzz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @icedaft I’ve caught lots of fish in both rivers - nothing super big but lots of 15-25cm brown trout. That being said I covered lots of water over multiple days in both rivers. These rivers are hit pretty hard during the Cat. 1 season, and it shows. There are a few 'fly only' stretches, but again, they are small and I have seen lots of fly guys on them at different times. It's definitely worth putting in the time though - beautiful part of the country, great fishing and fantastic food / gastronomie.

    • @dbagzz
      @dbagzz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @icedaft I have fished on the Fecht but was only able to for an hour or so - would love to get back up there and fish for Grayling! That sounds like a fantastic time in the Autumn and early winter 👍

      Great question! The ‚Neon’ Sharpies glow and are great for hot spots .. you will see in my vids I use the white thread and have multiple neon colors so I don’t need a bunch of thread spools - blue, pink, orange black and chartreuse are my main sharpie colors. Man the scenery is amazing. Which drone are you working with now?

    • @dbagzz
      @dbagzz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cheers Mark ... DJI Mavic Air 2 - I bought it for a really good deal last month and it's a great drone, but if I had the option again I would probably get the Mini 4 Pro. Mini 4 Pro is under 250g and here in Switzerland (and the EU), drones under 250g means less flying restrictions. I don't know the regs in the States/Oregon for private drones, but it's worth checking out before you buy.

    You should make more videos like this. Quite interesting to see how you go after em. What a hog you caught there. It’s not that easy to catch a decent brown in Switzerland. Most of em are quite tiny. Back in the states, I could catch a 3-4 lbs trout all day. This little creek next to a mountain road is sure not easy to reach 😅

    • @dbagzz
      @dbagzz 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Lulu ... that is the overall plan for the channel. My goal is to get two/three long-form out every month, mixed in with the fly tying shorts which can be done in a jif. Challenge in recent weeks has been the weather mostly - really warm and humid. Mix the weather in with low water levels in these creeks - makes for tricky, tentative (not really motivated to go trekking around in low, warm-ish water) fishing conditions. Thx again for taking the time to connect. All the best.

    You are a phenomenal caster. Everyone--including expert casters--can learn something from your videos. The loops are wind-slicing good. By the way, I have a mid-flex Orvis Helis 906 fly rod. Would that rod work well for the casts you are performing, or is a bit stiffer rod better? Thanks.
