Awesome video and not overrated either 34th ST Iam from Baltimore and look forward to seeing this festive St every holiday season for me the holidays have officially begun when the lights are on on 34th.

its about a guy who had an affair with a married woman. bougainvillea is the womans heart. the children so often mentioned is his love. she chooses to stay with her husband even though shes lost her feelings for him, "and shes chosen where to be though shes lost her wedding ring..somewhere near her misplaced jar of bougainvillea seeds" but he has closure from knowing that she still thinks of him. "sometimes when the *windows closed (*meaning the opportunity is gone) she'll sit and think of me" she didnt leave her husband and pretends to lovehim because ultimately shes afraid of being alone. "in all our bones a baby sleeps so scared to be alone" the seasons and all the personified themes, even though refered to as females, is the narrator or guy. the seasons reflect his mood and the state of the relationship. -summer was the high point of there affair where the narrator "warmed the open window of her honeymoon" -autumn was when things went downhill and he basically screwed up the great life she had coming with mixed emotions "blew the quilt right of the perfect bed she made' -winter of course is when its over and the narrator is upset "tucks her children in her fragile china dolls" meaning that he keeps his love hidden just beneath the surface but is actually really upset. -spring is the time for rebirth when he takes solace in the fact that she remembers him and regrets. when he lets go. the state of the bougainvillea (blooms, seeds) obviously mean the state of the womans heart. "chosen to believe in the hyms her mother sings" means she decides to be loyal to the bond of marriage. the "passing afternoon" and "things that drift away like our endless numbered days" is really just him feeling nostalgic and missing her. and that he won't ever really stop missing her. hes saying to make the most out of the times that are given to you. if you listen to it knowing with all of this you'll totally understand.

This song is beautiful :) I heard this first on the episode of 'House' that it was featured on, it was perfect for the episode!

The last two verses are the parts the hold the most meaning to me. It is about a man who loves a woman that belongs to another man. "And she'll mend his tattered clothes and they'll kiss as if they know" This song can be taken so many ways and I think that is what makes it so great.

I think this song is about the ephemeral nature of life. There is a very melancholy quality to it, but the images and symbolism of the song are heartbreakingly beautiful. In short, I think Samuel Bean is trying to say that although the ultimate death of everything is, no doubt saddening, it is this knowledge of the fleeting nature of life that makes it beautiful and meaningful. I love it more than words can describe, its like a warm, familiar blanket I can bring out anywhere.
