Fascinating.
But states don’t matter we aren’t voting for governor we’re voting for president which affects the federal government which affects every single person not just one state. Sayings states rights to hold power they don’t have is like thinking your imaginary friend is real. One person one vote. Seems pretty simple to me. There’s only been a few instances where the president doesn’t win by the popular vote and still takes office and how many republicans and democrats have switched power over all those years. Republicans have won by popular vote and so have democrats. I support the national popular vote interstate compact, which would bring power back to the people without a constitutional amendment. Instead of a handful of swing states deciding I want my vote to matter no matter what state I live in.
So scared of Kennedy.😂
Once you get beyond 4 candidates you are splitting the vote!
Wake up sheep!
I know what I'll do I'll vote for one of the two major parties and my vote will just mean nothing because they are one in the same😮 I would rather vote for myself and that vote will count as a vote for lack of confidence in both parties🎉🎉🎉🎉
Gore's a piece of crap, period
The two party prison. We need a third party that will side with the best (not political) ideas.
Well thank god for Ralph Nader for saving us from the catastrophe of a Gore presidency.
Just lock trump up …. I’m so sick of him
Yeah the founder of the “ modern “ democrat party, he also gave them their mascot. The “ JACKASS !!…. just saying 👎🤡💩❗️ TRUMP 2024 ❤️🇺🇸😁
This man is surely talking about BIDEN
I would say he was the most popular and greatest president next to Washington and Jefferson. He was the only president who ever balanced the budget. That's what id say.
I fuckin knew it
Sounds like crazy Hillary to me
I'd say you're throwing around a lot of subjection and not an ounce of context! I know nothing about Jackson, after watching this I still don't!
STOP TALKING ABOUT BIDEN LIKE THAT
Sketchy fiscal policy? You mean he paid off the national debt.
Trump did nothing wrong :)
This is the most inaccurate representation of Andrew Jackson to date😂😂😂
Trump is not Jackson.
Yes, lucky for us Trump is a physical and moral coward who only cares about money, plus he's incredibly stupid and a lousy businessman. Jackson was a total asshole, but he was also smart and physically courageous, and had no qualms about brutalizing minorities he despised and keeping others as slaves, making him more dangerous than Trump ever was.
The hopeful thing about this is that we defeated the pro-white supremacy/ pro-oligarchy politicians in the 1800, and we can do the same November 2024
🙄🤣
Wow, you are reaching. Like.. really reaching.
Sounds like a typical agenda for a selfish politician😪😪😪🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😪😪😪🙏💕🙏
This was also the election where the popular vote was won by Al Gore
Or those votes could have been for bush giving him a commanding victory over the state… you can’t just make those kind of assumptions. I will make a current assumption though.. the deep state knows trump will win vs Biden and they will do anything to cheat and change that.. introduce rfk, the plausible deniability candidate lol… if the lawsuits, jail time doesn’t do it we will just flat out cheat AGAIN..
I have voted Libertarian in the 2000s. Not 'wasted' votes.
I didnt not expect this but damn this got me thinking
Wow, I can't believe you're back!!!

Many see the Electoral College as unfair because it can allow a candidate to win the presidency without winning the popular vote, leading to concerns about its democratic legitimacy. Honestly though I can’t stand the electoral college. (P.S what’s your favorite race?)
white people
DON'T BE FOOLED.... THIS GUYS TRYING TO MANIPULATE YOU... TALK LIKE TUCKER CARLSON... FACT IS.... That ELECTORAL COLLEGE is exactly what Trumpicans want to illuminate... WHY? What states was he pressuring ? Because of the ELECTORAL COLLEGE, these states are the GOLD MINES... and if he looses atleast 2, HES A LOOSER... You all see what happened in the more republican sector in NYC did BECAUSE OF TRUMP AND THE BULLSHT???? REPUBLICANS VOTED BLUE<<<< ... WAKE UP PPL.... Yes i believe the ELECTORAL COLLEGE needs modification but not eliminated. Its like a climber climbing without a rope for safety... Plus... TRUMP WAS NOT THE POPULAR VOTE... HE LIES TO YOU... The security of the EC is... it makes SURE after counting ALL LEGAL VOTES.. its legit. In other countries without it... THEY HAVE BALLOT STUFFING... MEANING.... EASIER TO GET FAKES VOTES TO MAKE THE PERSON >>SEEM<< MORE POPULAR... This is how PUTLER does it... Trump and his minions convinced you all that it was happening in America when its not... and THATS WHAT HE WANTS TO DO.. LIKE PUTLER and other countries. You saw the FAKE thing happening in Ukraine... annexation??? How can 97% voters for annexation be right? When only 10% of ppl voted? ... Trump knows he will loose... but he is hoping your to stupid to know... Begs you for donations to pay his legal fees... Wake up!! Some guy paid like 6k for sneakers... only worth $200 at most. Trsh is trash....and only ignorant believes trash... thats what he's hoping. Oh .. by the way...... 90% of the ppl you see at his rallies behind him were PAID AND BROUGHT IN ON BUSSES... Dont be fooled by these ppl.. Is a soap opera REAL? Movies? Theater? ... ALL FAKE..... STAGING...
Ultra close elections don't favor small states, it favors swing states. Look at 2016 and 2020 which were very close and the swing states like Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania were the ones that decided the election. The example of minorities doesn't play out either, NYC doesn't have its own electoral votes, it is part of New York State overall. In New York state overall 14% of the population are black, not much larger than the national population. Maybe if they were able to congregate into a single state this argument would make more sense, but then it's diluted similarly that it would be with a national vote since they would have roughly 11% of the say.
The founding fathers setup the electoral college to prevent "tyranny of the minority." It is the same reason they required 2/3 vote to pass amendments to the Constitution. It is also why it was required to be ratified by 2/3 of the states. As for the push toward simple majority popular vote, everyone should be very wary of this. After all Hitler became Chancellor with 37% majority of the Reichstag seats. Far fewer people actually voted for him. To get that 37% the TWO socialist parties combined forces to propel Hitler to the Chancellory. When the German President died that is when he swooped in and siezed full control.
The problem begins with the two party system. Having more parties who collaborate sometimes just makes more sense and is more democratic. And the weight of smaller states is represented in the senate. No need for an electoral college for the presidency. But since you have gerrymandering you’re not living in a democracy no matter what else you change.
Q: How does this thing called the "Electoral College" work? . . . . . . A: It doesn't.
This is a very pointless argument. The electoral college is here to stay. The constitution is designed in such a way that in order to amend it you need way too many small states willing to give up thier power that they receive from it. The republic was made to prevent big government from over powering the common man, and big states from stepping on little states.
Or you could have “one person one vote” like in a democracy.
His explanation is the exact reason it should be done away with.

Doesn't sound very democratic
That's because the US is a constitutional republic and not a democracy. You see, the way the constitution was set up, the people have the most voice in their local and state governments. The Federal government was the states getting together to agree on things and provide for the common defense. That is why the Senate was originally appointed by the state governments and the House was Voted on by the people. The Senate represented the wants and needs of the state while the House represented the people. They both had to agree on War's, Budgets, and laws with each representing their distinct constituents. You may also note that if the government followed the constitution we should have 1 house member for every 70,000 people. Which we dont have! With those numbers you would be better represented.
It’s stupid that there’s an incentive to discourage people in your state from voting. Fully Democratic and fully Republican states don’t care if their citizens vote because it’s not a swing state. Only swing states matter in an anti-democratic system like the electoral college. Maybe it made sense when electors had to travel by horse… but it hasn’t made sense since the telegraph. #NationalPopularVote
Ignorance reigns supreme in this video. Notice I didn't say stupidity. Ignorance can be cured by education. Stupidity cannot. Neither can evil, but that's for a different day. The founders had no intention of creating a "pure" democracy--otherwise known as two wolves and a lamb voting on what's for dinner. As we see each one of our inalienable right stripped away one by one, soon the cost of disagreeing with the state will rival the price that Socrates paid. The other posters in the comment section talking about the Federalist Papers, etc. are WORTH heeding. They get it.
The most ridiculous system I have ever heard of. A handful of men decide and can ignore everyone's will.
No, you're just ignorant. The reason there's an electoral vote is so every represented. State has equal say the government think back to when the country was started. No state would have joined the Union. If they could just have their interest out voted, buy popular boat. Why would any smaller state join the Union with Lar the states? Butt hey stay ignorance to the government good on you
Thats the literal definition of a republic.
I though the man said it was based on the majority of votes in that state.
Many other countries have legislators in a Parliament select their chief executive. We actually do it better by having states select our chief executive. Technically the state legislatures have the final say on who the electors are. They’ve just chosen to defer that decision to voters to decide between a slate of electors from each party. The electors are chosen at state party conventions by delegates who vote for them.
@@The1JebrimFor example in Australia we don't directly elect a president, we elect our local representatives and the party with the most elected representatives forms government. Most people vote for the party they want but once elected that representative could change their allegiance if they wanted.
This is how a minority of americans get to elect people like bush and trump against the willl of the majority
Congratulations you just described a republic… which is what America is. We are NOT a democracy, we have never been a democracy. The founders knew that democracies are evil, and never work.
Without it, the small states would be irrelevant. Campaigning would be confined to CA, TX, NY, and FL.
The states you campaign in won't matter. Every citizen would same voting power, which isn't the case right now. If you're voting from CA or FL, your vote is simply less powerful than people from less populous states.
Oh you mean like now where campaigning is confined to Iowa, NH & Nevada?
@@det_tf2It does matter, because if elections were done by popular vote then every politician would only spend campaign dollars to go to high population States. Our great system also ensures pure democracy does not exist. The reason this is important is because the majority tends to make rules that disadvantage the minority within the population. Take the south after the Civil War, the majority of southern democrats made segregation laws that favored the majority over the minority. What stopped this? A system of checks and balances within the system to counteract simple majority rule. The US Constitution is like the base rules and freedoms each State must have. Each state can add to their citizens more rights and rules but cannot take away any freedom in the US Constitution. Each State is made of counties which can further give more freedoms and rules as long as they do not step on freedoms set within that State or the Nation as a whole. Sometimes people within a State or Federal level make laws either intentionally or ignorantly that violate people's rights. It is our duty as the citizenry to peacefully protest and take these laws, edicts, decrees, etc. to court for the judge to rule them as unconstitutional. Evil triumphs when good does nothing to stop it. We must seek the good of others or we will fall prey to the evils of humanity.
Small states are still irrelevant
Campaigning in small states is already irrelevant. Because of the Electoral College, all campaigning is done in the half dozen or so "swing states."
Best system ever. Without it the nation would crumble.
This is sarcasm right?
No, it would just never have a Republican voted in. What a wonderful world THAT would be!
@@meghansmom7797Ooh, double sarcasm. I like it.
@@jacobc9221 Absolutely not. Wuthout the electoral college Ca and Ny would decide every election. The whole country would be as fckd as California. At the miment my family is moving to Oklahoma. Take away the electoral college and we'd be taking out skills and taxes to Uruguay. Sorry you never studied civics.
@@zackantonio9253 1. All the other states are still there. California and New York would just have significantly more influence. Similarly, they have significantly more Americans than other states, but not all Americans. And guess who democracy is supposed to serve? That's right, the American people. 2. What parts of California, exactly, do you think are messed up? There are definitely some flaws, like the overuse of product warnings, but that's a better problem than what I've seen in other states. So what are some of the issues big enough to make California "fcked?"
Definitely a superior system for a massive country with an extremely diverse population and sub-cultures.
Not all electors are required to abide by their states results, either.
While true in theory... the electors are "puppets", willingly doing as they're told. Anyone not willing to vote as instructed is not selected to be an elector.
This makes sense. It makes sure each state is a heavy weight and not big ass behemoth trash like California can steam roll their individual will on the country. The Electoral college STAYS!!!
How to go about removing this system
Never will happen. The smaller states will never go for it. It will take an amendment to the constitution and the smaller states will not vote for it and lose their power.
Because if they did, then NY and CA would elect the president every time.
Did you bother reading the federalist papers? It was already talked about.
The #NationalPopularVote only requires states with a majority of electoral college votes to agree to send their electors for the winner of the popular vote… otherwise it would take a constitutional amendment.
@@mattpalmer3092I just read the relevant portion of Section 68 of the Federalist Papers. What I gathered is that the system is meant to protect against corruption through a high number of electors that are also quickly replaceable. But isn't the sheer number of the American public as a whole enough to trade off the quickly replaceable part? If you can bribe or manipulate the majority of voting citizens, how could needing to bribe or manipulate a smaller roster of them be difficult? All the system seems to really do is give states with less people more power, which doesn't make sense, because the states are made of people. People who are influenced by politics.
