Sleigh Ride, except the rebellion worked (Bari Sax POV)
Merry Christmas, everyone!
This is from the actual performance of Sleigh Ride we did for the Christmas Gala concert, at the second concert, which happened on Sunday, December 11th. After our sight reading (the "rebellion"), our director decided we'd perform the piece anyways, and so that's how we ended up here. I've opted to upload it on Christmas, and not the day of the performance, for two reasons: (1) it's a Christmas tune, and (2) I figured it'd be a fun way to round out the year.
Hope your spirits are bright and merry this season, and that you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

AKA, Sleigh Ride, except our conductor doesn't want to do it, and so we rebelled; AKA Sleigh Ride, but I'm sight reading the baritone saxophone part

    Help I don’t know how to play quiet without sounding airy😢

    • @j.mitch.8
      @j.mitch.8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Part of that could be because of your reed; check to see what strength you're playing on, and see if it's been "broken in" (played on for a few days, rehearsal and practice). A harder reed that hasn't been broken in is gonna sound a lot more airy than a softer reed that has been.

    • @combustion1041
      @combustion1041 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@j.mitch.8 it’s a 2.5 and it has been broken in but it takes more air and it has a better tone than my other 2.5s

      @j.mitch.8 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@combustion1041 First, I'd like to commend you for having multiple reeds (something I skimped out on in high school, haha). Second, it could be where you're biting down on the mouthpiece. I found that right above where the reed starts to touch the mouthpiece itself gets good placement for my lower lip and my tongue, and it doesn't sound as breathy when I play with that positioning.

    Try not to take breaths after the notes. As a bari player who marched and did. wind Ensemble and Jazz for far too long, I learned the hard way. Good tone though

  • @sethleejazz
    @sethleejazz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    try not to take in a breath after quarter note, it really messes with your air support and you won't be able to get notes out as smoothly. when breathing, try to breathe in with your stomach so you can take more air in and use the same breath over a few measures instead of breathing after every note. another note, try to keep your stomach tensed. i've noticed (for me at least) that the notes come out a lot easier when your stomach is tensed up. you have a great sound and youre a great player!
