Informative. Thank you.
Thank you, very informative.
Every Vortex I've ever used gave me eye strain/headaches
the real comparison should be Monarch 7 v Vortex Viper. or Monarch 5 v Vortex Diamonback
Great video - would do more pelagic trips if not so seasick - any advice would be welcome? What do folk do to control it?
How about comparing apples to apples Diamondback to Nikon M5? Fair M7 should be Viper compare? This is a very Biased review IMHO
Thanks for the review. I can attest that Vortex warranty is excellent. I dropped a Vortex 8x32 monocular and damaged the eyepiece, sent back and it came back with a repaired or new eyepiece. They also put a new eyepiece rubber. Interestingly we use Nikon Monarch 8x42 for work alongside the Vortex.
Nikon monarch is the best, Diamond back is a crap
Would love to hear news and views, we have booked
He missed a few umm’s 🤣🤣🤣
Umm counter is cute 😂 but you have a coooool accent! Good review/comparison though. Thanks
Can't wait for this special bucket list trip. Thank you for this useful information. Booked and rearing to go.
A couple of things you missed or perhaps this is something in more recent models . . . I have a pair of Nikon M7's which is in my stable of 'loaner' binoculars for people who come on my tours. I have learned that the diopter ring must be snapped up a little to operate and you can't do this with the eyecups set in the lowest position. This means that you need to raise the eyecups up a stop when setting them up if you use glasses. This might become a minor annoyance if you use these bins regularly. Another thing, I don't know about birding conditions in South Africa, but here in Australia you're going to miss so many birds if you get around with your bins packed away in some kind of pouch around your neck. I recommend holding your bins in one hand as you go so you can raise them straight to your eyes in an instant. I also recommend checking out the range of most birds which you're seeing and pre-focussing your binoculars on that range. This will vary according to the habitat, time of day, conditions, etc.. In this way you'll be ready in an instant and you'll see and identify far more birds and enjoy your birding a whole lot more. If you see a bird fly into a distant tree, quickly focus on the tree and then locate that bird with your naked eyes and when you raise your bins, it will be in focus and you'll have a great view. Thanks for the review and happy birding!
Just watched the show and really enjoyed it! Good initiative, Adam and John.
This is a good unboxing video and it would have been nice to see how you attached the strap to the binoculars.
Great review.. though leupold had a set I was interested in on Black Friday deal.. picked up the leupold bx-1 McKenzie hd
Glad to see a Saffer review channel. As everybody already mentioned the difference in USD, in ZAR its R6500 for the Vortex Diamondbacks and R11999 for the Nikon M7.
very happy to watch this. I was in doubt between the Nikon pro staff 7or Monarch 7 8x30 and the Vortex Diamond 8x32. I tried all of them saw minor differences between the 2 Nikons and the Vortex optically. But the big difference was the quality in build quality. The Vortex doesn't only feel metal, it is metal and the Nikons are all plastic. No doubt anymore I will choose the Vortex. I really would hate what happened with your Nikon, the lug braking off. you found a solution , but some day that might go wrong as well.
Everything coming from Nikon brand are disposable throw aways after their short term warranty expire. Vortex covers everything for life including self inflicted damages and fire.
Such beautiful Eagle truly Africa's Crowned Jewels ❤🦅🦅🦅❤❤❤❤
For my tastes, the best kind of birding video. All video, no slides. No one trying to get their face on the screen. No overpowering soundtrack of inappropriate music. And no hackneyed and hyperbolic narration. Definitely in the upper echelon of birding video on TH-cam. As many as I watch, I am surprised that I haven't seen this one earlier. Thanks.
what is this? they kept it from 1990’s and selling it now? what a horrible junk. it tells what is going on in Japan now….Canon…going down…bye…
Garbage
Друг сердечный, можно ли на видеокамере установить дату и время? Чтобы потом перебросить это видео на диск и было бы видно дата и время
Was about to hit the buy button for the Nikon but their refusal to repair their cheap plastic is an automatic No-Go. I keep searching.
Vortex has a 100% repair or replace lifetime warranty. No matter what happens to them and no receipt required. And they are great binoculars.
Bo w cenie lornetki vortex są wliczone dwie dlatego dają dożywotnią gwarancję ,przecież tam użyta optyka jest przeciętna.
U cant compare nikon is much more expensive
I thought Nikon went out of business after they screwed over all their customers over their lifetime warranty which they no longer honor. I wouldn't trust Nikon after that.
Es mejor una cámara bridge. lejos
This place was incredible, grade 5 camp was at Roselands, and everyone remembered it, a beautiful place and a beautiful bird.
the wind noise is torture
Vortex Diamondback Hd👍
Both have terrible eye relief for eyeglass users. I have Pentax 10x42 that have 21mm eye relief. I don't consider anything with less than 18mm
Encouraging for the generation
Wow that’s some terrible picture quality 😭
Just ordered my Nikon 😉
Kinda mediocre at best, pass.
Show
Is the vortex good for birding? Things I have seen they are better for hunting. I am a birder
Thanks for sharing
What happened to Nikon's no fault warranty for 25 years? Why didn't they fix the problem under warranty?
I wear glass all the time. Is it a good binoculars for us?
You should learn from Optica exotica.
Couldn't hear half of what you said cause of the wind noise. Unreal.
I OWN A BRIDGE CAMERA, TWO MONOCULARS AND A PAIR OF BINOCULARS.. MY ISSUE IS WHEN I USE THE MONOCULARS... EITHER... OR EVEN THE BINOCULARS... BY THE TIME I'VE FOCUSED EVERYTHING THE BIRD HAS WANDERED OFF AND NOW OUT OF FOCUS. CALL ME CACK-HANDED BUT I CAN NEVER REMEMBER WHICH WAY TO TWIST AND TURN THINGS... I GENERALLY TWIST IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION SO THIS LOOKS IDEAL. ALSO WITH THE OPTION TO TAKE IMAGES OR VIDEOS OF BIRDS, BOATS, SHIPS, PLANES, TRAINS ETC THIS LOOKS A MUST. PLEASE NOTE I'M NOT SHOUTING... MY EYESIGHT IS ALSO ONE OF THE BIGGEST REASONS THIS DEVICE LOOKS IDEAL. WHEN YOU LIVE IN A HISTORIC CITY NEAR THE WATER THIS LOOKS PERFECT. THE PRICE? I'VE YET TO COMPARE A STAND ALONE DIGITAL ZOOM MONOCULAR... IF THERE IS SUCH A THING... YEAH THIS LOOKS GREAT FOR DAYS OUT AND IT'S TRUE WHEN TRYING TO FOCUS ON ANYTHING WITH MY PHONE CAMERA ON A SUNNY DAY... FORGET IT... GLARE AND MY OWN REFLECTION ISN'T WHAT I'M LOOKING TO CAPTURE. USEFUL VIDEO... THANX
Got par vortex and a par bush and loom vintage Japan supper clear glass
Are you sure those are the Monarch M7 and not the M5? The reason I ask is that the 7 is not slightly more money than the vortex but more than twice as much. The M5's, however, are slightly more. Do most people buy the 7, at $500 US? Seems like a lot for a little extra field of view.
I have the Diamondbacks 10x42 but here is what I have to say, you need to compare Nikon Monarch 7 to Vortex Vipers and not diamondbacks. When comparing the diamondbacks you need to compared them with the Nikon Monarch 5. Both examples are tru apples to apples and oranges to oranges (Monarch 5=Diamondback) (Monarch 7=Vipers). Your review is equivalent to comparing the Vortex Vipers to the Monarch 5, the Viper will always win.
well, what's better, vortex viper or monarch 7?
I compared the Diamondbacks to my regular Monarch 8x42 diamondbacks 10x42 wasn't impressed the Nikons were about the same hence 8x42 not 10x the vipers were maybe slightly brighter bun sharpness about same. The Nikons Phase coated prisms not the newest tech like Vortex HD / UHD I was expecting more.
I have both the monarch 7’s and the vortex vipers, really just splitting hairs as far as image quality goes. I prefer the ergos of the Nikons better, better feel in hands for extended viewing sessions. You can’t go wrong with either. Love the 8.3 deg field of view on the newer model 7 over the 8 degree FOV on the previous version. Every little bit counts.
Out in the field all day, one hour battery life is too short and the battery is not replaceable so no spare. Also the basic camera does not come with a charger . You have to have a USB-C connection for charging . You cannot use a phone charger as power requirement is higher.
Came for the review, stayed for the umm counter (which you massively undercounted 😅)
Thanx for your nice review! I was surprised about this comparison because here in Italy and I'd say also in Europe, the Nikon Monarch M7 is more closer, in price, to the Vortex Viper than to the Diamondback so I expected the Nikon was the winner, hands down!
