The Mountain Way
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 7 เม.ย. 2015
The Mountain Way is an organic bespoke programme that is designed to help military veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to regain a level of control over their combat-damaged lives and thus restore harmony to their suffering families as well.
It is run on a one-to-one basis by Major Andy Shaw Royal Marines (retired), who is a Falkland Islands conflict and Northern Ireland veteran. Andy suffered from PTSD for 30 years before he was able to overcome his “silent wound”. He achieved this by making it the priority of his life to understand, then to defeat.
The Mountain Way programme was launched in September 2014 and relies upon the support of a wide network of friends (Sherpas), who shoulder the financial burden in order to allow our guests (Sufferers) to ascend their own inner mountains towards peace, happiness and harmony.

BILLY & ME
This short video shows Billy on his French Pyrenees Experience as a guest of The Mountain Way. He had battled against complex PTSD and unacknowledeged Gulf War Illness for a number of lonely hard years before finding us. His determination to overcome these crippling ailments was impressive in the extreme. Billy is an excellent example of the finest Senior NCO the British Army relies upon, and we are proud to know him.

This Experience was run in Ibiza in February and March of 2023. It is the winter programme for UK veterans suffering from complex military PTSD. The summer version, The Mountain Way, is run in the French Pyrenees. Both programmes are identical in terms of theory and practical work but have differing outdoors themes, namely the mountains and the sea.

Awesome, really inspiring
Awesome, nice one Andy and Billy from a fellow Gulf War Veteran
💘💘❤❤💖💖
Excellent. Thank you each one for sharing. God bless you.
As for the wedding photo..... I was there!!!! 👍
I could watch videos of boats at sea and dogs all day... To have both in one video, awesome! Bitter sweet video...❤
So glad you were the first to see this Anne. I am often asked if I miss those days. I don't. Life has moved on. The refits became increasingly harder because living on a pusser's pension meant that we had to save hard and could only afford to do them every two years, which meant a lot of work. This one lasted over 2 months. You can see we got out of the marina the day we went back in the water, hence the radar, sails, wind generator etc. not shipped up and there was no window in the brand new heads either!! After 18 years Cheralie had had enough and Tom had outgrown his bunk after 9 years afloat. It was time to grow some land legs.
@@themountainway8781 completely understand. It's a wise thing to know when stop and when it's the right time to change and move on. Boats are hard work, but wooden boats even harder and more expensive to maintain. My old clinker 20' fishing boat Sally B went to new owners back in 2019. I couldn't keep her seaworthy anymore and I am slowing down too. It was sad to see her go, but what a relief not to have the worry anymore! We both enjoyed watching MFL and the family on board, she was a lovely boat.
@@annecholawo3385 I have been blessed with the opportunties that have come my way and the friends I have. Life's great adventure continues. You and Robert exemplify this. p.s. the editing rehearsal that became this film has now spawned the real film "The Mountain Way Celebrates 10 years". I uploaded it last night.
God bless you all.
And I still have my own copy of the video's! 👍🤗
Them were the days!!!!
They were Bob, and I have not forgotten the time you saved MFL from a beasting in a nasty south east gale in Exmouth dock by stuffing planks etc. between her and the steel walls. Good skills brother.
@@themountainway8781 I had not forgotten that either! Rubber tyres.... Thanks to Phil the groundsman. 😂🤗👍
Wow!!!!!!
Well done Andy

A brave and moving speech that fills us with compassion. Thank you so much for sharing this on camera and youtube. There really are guardian angels, demons and therefore a Loving God. We asked God the question, "do you exist?" and He replied 'Yes' that was four years ago and He has proved His existance over and over in truly miraculous ways. Just ask Him. God Bless You Bill and The Mountain Way Team.
A very hard speech to make on camera about your demons that haunt you Billy, but you managed it, and 'Well Done' doesn't seem enough to say. Your music was very apt and had a lot of meaning in the words. Hopefully when you cast that demon face off that mountain, you can learn to understand that by casting it away you have also cast it from your mind. Believe it is no longer in control of you, because you killed it by smashing it into a thousand pieces. What you have achieved on 'The Mountain Way' with Andy is not a cure but a massive step in accepting that you have PTSD, learning from your experience on the mountain, and moving forward with it. The Demon is dead, now you are in control of your own recovery. This is only my view, but I hope it offers some solace to you... Well done to Andy Shaw and the rest of the team on 'The Mountain Way'.
