Hello,
We are Keely, Bruce and Chase.
This channel is our 6 year journey to retirement.
We are both teachers that live to travel and we are hoping to retire early.
We know health is important and we want a retirement that is all about quality of life not quantity. The longer we wait to retire the less time we have to do what we want.
We realise that it is important to cut back and save for the future but it is also important to live for the now.

Great video. Thank you
Thank you for watching. We hope it was useful.
I don’t mean to be rude, but this was the most boring presentation I’ve ever seen on utube.
It's unfortunate that you didn't enjoy the video. Thankfully we have generally had positive feedback about it's usefulness rather than it's excitement value. As we are a new channel we welcome all constructive feedback and the beauty of TH-cam is you can switch off if it's not to your taste so hopefully you didn't waste too much time being bored. Thank you
We love Qm2 but also like Queen Victoria ..Victoria has a 4 night to Amsterdam in November next year. We just did this cruise and you get 2 nights in Amsterdam and was fantastic.
We have so many cruises that we want to do. I've heard Amsterdam is fabulous. This will definitely go on our list . Thank you
The Beach House is great too. The steaks are fantastic
Hello, thank you for watching. It did look nice we will definitely give it a try next time.
What is the price difference between those 3 cruise lines for a similar itinerary 🤔
This can be difficult to establish as they seem to specialize in indifferent things but do have the occasional similar itinerary. Generally speaking P&O will always be the cheapest and when I did a comparable search for Europe August 26 , P&O were about 200 cheaper than Cunard for an inside cabin and RCL only did 9 nights not 14 but on a per night basis they were a similar price to cunard. We use iglu cruises to search and have booked with them before but we also book direct with cruise line too. Hope that's helped and thanks for watching.
Have ever gone on the crossing to NYC
No we haven't but it's definitely on our list for retirement trips. We have left new jersey on a RCL cruise before and Bayonne is an awesome sail away.
😉👍🏻thank you
Glad you found it useful. Thank you for watching.
Rather than making a foss about which cabin you chose, you better consider the sick pollution and CO2 emission you cause attending your cruises. You go on cruises to see the beauty of our world and as you do so, you contribute to its destruction. And with a cruise, you do so three times as much as you would if you went for vacation by plane. Cruise tourists are selfish and simply lack responsibility. Shame.
I was on the solo cabin twice on the Norwegian and I was pleased, I could’ve had a little bit larger one, but the good part is it emptied into the lounge just for solos with their own coffee area, and although most of the people in the solar on Norwegian were in their 20s and 30s a few were a bit older like me who were about 45 to 60. The travel agent had given me a bottle of wine, which I didn’t want to drink all myself so I brought it to the lounge and it shared it with two new friends
Hello, thank you for watching. Norwegian is on our bucket list, we have heard good things. We are on Virgin at Christmas so looking forward to seeing what their cabins are like.
You gave some good reasons that I had thought of for booking an inside cabin. As to smoking, I’m also a non-smoker however I traveled once on Norwegian with a smoker, but she was in a different cabin and I noticed on an outside deck they did have an area for smokers, but it was just a small area. I just avoided it and I wouldn’t have noticed it but saw my friend outside smoking, but that was at the required place. I’m not sure if this changed because this was on Norwegian over six years ago in the Mediterranean.
Hello and welcome, we would love to hear below, which is your favourite cabin and why? Thank you for watching.
Hello and welcome, please let us know, in the comments below, about your experiences of food onboard and thank you for watching.
Next time please visit the places you missed: The Illuninations Theatre (forward of the Royal Court Theatre) The on board museum (Decks 2 & 3 forward) G32 the two deck nightclub (aft of the Queen Room) The pair of outside scenic/glass lifts (Deck 7-11) The Boardroom (Deck 9) The Art Gallery (Deck 2/3) The Atlantic Room (Deck 11) The Observation Deck (Deck 11) The Bridge viewing gallery (Deck 12) The wrap-round teak-decked promenade (Deck 7) (and a few others) Do have Afternoon Tea in the Queens Room I'm certain you'll enjoy and maybe love all on the above list. Happy sailings.
Seeing how many cruises you've been on I don't feel too bad missing some of those things in my 4 day cruise. Seems like you ve been exploring that beautiful ship for years. I ll definitely look out for most of those on my next cruise on QM2. I might give the night club a miss though 😀.
Your departure and arrival terminals are noted on your paperwork. Just study the paperwork. Don't ignore it please. If you've still got records do check them, it'll tell you. Happy sailings.
Thank you . I haven't got the paperwork but I did think it strange that you weren't told. That's a really useful tip .
I always go to the MDR (Britannia Restaurant) for meals (with a very few exceptions). I don't pay all that money to serve myself. (20 voyages with Cunard (4 ships), 15 of them on QM2 incl many transatlantic crossings)
I am very willing to list the differences between an Ocean Liner and a Cruise Ship, just ask :-)
Shuttle buses are charged if you booked a saver fare, they are free if you paid a select fare.
We only paid for 1 return shuttle bus in the 14 days cruise so it was very random for us.
We did not know that. We would really appreciate you letting us know how you get on, especially Bruce. Have a nice trip and thank you for watching.
@@RetirementDreamsToReality will update with the good the bad and the ugly when we are home cheers
That shorts in main dining room rule, only applies after 6pm im led to believe? Find out soon on our 1st trip aboard 👍
Yes . We did main dining breakfast a few times and shorts were fine then. A cruise for your trip abroad is a great choice. Enjoy every minute and thanks for watching .
I’m going in the transatlantic crossing westbound in March. Thanks for the channel.
We ll definitely do a transatlantic to NY in a few years. Hope you enjoy it and glad you like the Channel. Thank you .
I've booked a 14 day, Canary Islands cruise on the QM2 in February... I hope the pools are as uncrowded then
Fingers crossed. Remember there is always the indoor pool too if you get the odd ropey day.
We're going on QMll on the first of November. Your video is enormously helpful as I'm getting so excited to get aboard.
So glad you found the video useful. I'm sure you ll love your upcoming cruise. She is a really beautiful ship . Enjoy .
Queen Mary II died many years ago. Queen Mary 2 is a Cunard Ocean Liner.
Really super video, cheers Keely x
@@sodiumlights Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed it.
Further to the easy payment option you mentioned, be aware that if you book your next cruise onboard you get additional on board spend (if next cruise is 7 days or more) AND you pay a lower deposit!
Whatever the size of suitcase you have, you might not be allowed to embark with it, but you can certainly disembark with it!
Yes we did disembark with it.
A good way to get a rough handle on actual drink costs (including 15% service) is to treat dollar prices as pounds. Works out pretty well the same. In other words a $10 drink plus service is equal to £10 including service. Works for all other onboard purchases that are subject to the 15% too.
I love this idea. A great simple way to work out the additional charge. Thank you . Hope you enjoyed watching the video.
@@RetirementDreamsToReality Inded I did. Thank you. Gonna try the early arrival tip shortly. I’ll let you know how it goes. 👍
In a weeks time I'm flying to the UK to do a Westbound Transatlantic. Did you find Homer Simpson?
Enjoy your transatlantic. No we didn't look BUT be careful what videos you watch, some should come with a spoiler alert as they reveal his location. Ps he is tiny.
@@RetirementDreamsToReality I was aboard for one night last year (cancelled cruise) already found him
Regarding daily service charge, this can be removed if you’re unhappy (or miserly).
Great tips about sailing with Cunard. Its worth checking Southampton Docks ABP website as it has a web page for Cruise Ship Schedule which tell you which terminal cruise ship will be sailing from and back to.
Interesting to hear your fears. I qualified as teacher did a few terms didn't like it one bit so long story short left and worked designing educational programmes, yet still in the T.P working for the UK government. I was offered a severance age 56 jumped at it no regrets. One tip I would say is try to live on your respective Teachers pensions before you retire a good exercise. BTW done 14 Transatlantic crossing on QM2 3 upcoming trips on QM2. I tried the new Queen Anne in August It was okay however prefer the QM2 and Victoria. Good luck
Wow very jealous of all your Atlantic crossings on QM2. She is beautiful isn't she. We are currently trying to live on what we will set as our annual allowance including pensions and investments. I qualified late so was really only teaching 10 years before my TBi and Bruce is retiring quite early so we will need much more than our teachers pensions but we think we ll have that covered in the next few years. Thanks for watching the video and enjoy your future cruises. we ve just booked a virgin cruise so we ll post about that in the future.
@@RetirementDreamsToReality I am lucky with the transatlantic we stay with family plus I don't like flying TBH not a pleasurable experience. I have one transatlantic next year booked. I managed 32 years in the T.P and bought extra years too. Several years ago on a transatlantic westbound crossing an American said, 'when I die I want my last cheque I ever write to bounce' 😄 This phrase stuck with me. I only take Cunard done others perhaps go on Celebrity or Viking I liked them. I will watch the Virgin cruise, Subscribed....
This made me smile. Love the last cheque bouncing 😂 perfect scenario. Have you tried any Royal Caribbean, we like those too? Thanks for subscribing. We re slowly growing but do love what we re doing.
@@RetirementDreamsToReality Only tried 1 Royal Caribbean ship in 2007, legend of the seas now operates as Marella Discovery 2. Good luck with your channel
@RetirementDreamsToReality Your tip about arriving two hours early is a very good one. My travel agent told me the same thing. I just wish, however, that she had given me this tip *before* we left for our cruise rather than 48 hours *after* we returned, which is what she did ! “I thought you knew, everybody knows that !” was her excuse. 😠😠😠
@@parigino48 We didn't even know it was a thing you could do. Also, we are very British and tend to be great at queuing and don't like to rock the boat, sorry about the pun.
@@RetirementDreamsToReality 🤣🤣🤣
@@RetirementDreamsToReality couple of years ago I went on QE in Fremantle, Australia. Dropped my bags off then walked down to a local market. After lunch and walking around decided i would go back to the terminal and sit inside till my boarding time. When I walked in there was nobody there and I went straight onboard
@RetirementDreamsToReality The outdoor pools are *not* located on Decks 12 and 13, as you stated, but rather on Deck 8 (the adult pool) and Deck 6 (the “Minnows” pool for kiddies). My wife and I spent one week on the QM2 in July ‘24 (the “Independence Day” cruise), so we know. In addition, we are booked on the two-week Christmas and New Year’s Caribbean cruise later this year, and we look forward to that with great anticipation. Other than for the small error regarding the location of the pools, yours is a fine and well produced video, so thank you for sharing it. It brought back many lovely memories. Oh, and yes, it is pronounced Queue-nard ☺☺☺ .
@@parigino48 Hello, thank you for watching and the compliment. We caught the minnows pool error but I didn't put text on about the adult on 8. Wow, we are very jealous of your upcoming trips. We are going on our first virgin cruise at Christmas. We are also super excited. Glad the video helped you reminisce.
@@RetirementDreamsToReality Thank you for your lovely reply, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas cuise with Virgin.
There are pools on Deck 12 (under a open/close glass roof), Deck 8 and Deck 6. Also a spa pool on Deck 7. Have an explore next time.
I think the generally accepted pronunciation is Queue-nard rather than Coo- nard.
@@Curmudgeoned I can only apologise for my wife's pronunciation. You should hear how she pronounces Michigan.
That is correct.
Quite correct "Queuenard" never "Coonard". (there are dowagers in the Queens Grill Lounge clasping their pearls, and fainting)
Love your review, normal people , with real reviews, thank you ..
Thanks for your lovely comment. We try to be honest and positive. You're on your holidays so there is lots to be positive about but also there is the occasional annoyance. Glad you enjoyed the video.
One more question - is the tap water potable?
Potable? I drank it to take tablets but not sure if it's drinkable, as in fill glasses.
And please feel free to ask any questions. If I can answer them , I'm happy to.
Yes. Did I mention yes?
Thank you for this. I'm hoping to book QM2 sometime next year and have been watching lots of TH-cam videos but this is the first time I've heard about a $16 service charge. Is that across the board or is this somehow connected to alcohol purchases? I'm just not clear on what this is for. Thanks! :)
There is a daily service charge per passenger - this covers all the folks providing the included services to passengers (waiters, stewards - almost everyone on the 'hotel' staff). There sometimes are promotions for US bookings where this is included in the fare,. Many cruise lines have taken this approach instead of lots of envelopes the passengers were supposed to use to provide cash tips.
@@dl11950 is it in place of providing tips to the staff? Hardly seems enough for all the people involved in a daily effort.
Cunard call it a service charge, others like P&0 and RC called it gratuities. Sometimes it's included in original price, sometimes you can opt to prepay it, other times it's added on during the cruise. I may be wrong but I don't know any company where it' isn't at least referred to , even if it's included. Best to check at time of booking. Enjoy your cruise.
You can also take that charge off if you want to.
I enjoyed your video. It is nice to hear one that isn’t so negative. I’m a little biased since I’ve been on her so Many times. Also- an fyi- you can do a self serve tea in the afternoons on the buffet deck if you don’t like the crowd in the Queens Room.
Thanks for your lovely comment. We always try to be honest but positive. And next time we ll check out the self serve afternoon tea. I can see why you've been on her so many times as she is beautiful.
THANK YOU!! I am doing a double Transatlantic this October. Can't wait. Great information!!!!
Thank you for such a positive comment. I'm sure a transatlantic will be in our future. I hope you enjoy your time on QM2 as much as I did.
I'm boarding October 17
Thank you. The top about the water is good. We are sailing to the Caribbean on QM2 in Nov from NYC. Your tips will be helpful. 🙏
Thank you for watching and your positive comment. Your trip sounds fabulous. We did the Caribbean from New York in 2023 on Royal Caribbean. The sailaway from New York is truly amazing. Enjoy .
❤ Yes, looking forward to to that iconic view for sure!
Thank you. This is great information! 😊
Thanks for watching. Glad you found it useful.
Lovely review, I always decline auto tipping at the pursers office. It's an exploitative, morally questionable and outdated practice that cruise lines take advantage of. Until more passengers refuse to pay they will continue with this practice.
Thanks for watching and the positive comment. With regards to the service charge, we hadn't even thought of declining it as an option but in principal we are generally not against tipping however the option to make your own decisions would nice.
@@RetirementDreamsToReality yes, I will tip directly for good service. But it's the cruise lines responsibility to make sure All their team are paid properly. There are loads of industries that are low paid and require high standards that don't have a tipping culture or any scope to receive tips. It's the employer's job to take care of them.
@@RetirementDreamsToRealityThere are many heated discussions about the auto billed tipping. Most people say that this money goes to crew members who you don’t come into direct contact with, so they would be left out if you remove that from your bill.
Wouldn’t the cruise lines just pass that expense to the customers anyway in higher prices?
@@emb74and so they should. This would only have the impact of making cruise pricing more transparent.
Thank you for this video. My upcoming journey is only a few weeks away. I'll mention the main difference between an ocean liner and cruise ship, is the fact a ocean liner is similar to the commercial ocean liners that carry equipment/oil etc across the world. Ocean liners can go through all kinds of rough seas. It's basically safer being on an ocean liner than a cruise ship, because their construction is better and they weigh a lot more than a typical cruise ship. QM2 is the only ocean liner left in this world that takes voyages. The others either sunk, or are docked in long beach and dubai.
Wow I didn't know that. I always feel safe but nice to know it was super safe . Thanks for watching . Enjoy your upcoming cruise .
Mine too - Oct 17 Tranatlantic. I'm doing a double crossing!!! When are you going?
@@merseywhogirl3430 I'm doing 4 QM2 crossings during Oct and Nov through Dec 3. But I have some other voyages with a different cruise line booked too, during that time frame. When I'm disembarking on Oct 17, you'll be embarking. I'll be staying in Southampton a few days between voyages. I actually got upgraded to princess grill for my last cruise (13 nights in the Caribbean) in November. ENJOY your back-to-back cruises! 👍
We don't have another cruise booked until August 25 but I'm looking for a short one during next year that we can fit around work. This teaching lark does get in the way of cruising 🤣 . Can't wait for retirement..
Tipping customs vary between countries. We live in France where traditionally small change was left as a tip. However we were used to tipping 10% in Scotland so we just do that here. Things are changing a bit though, I've read some upmarket places in St Tropez are not taking bookings from clients who are known not to tip US style. Cunard price in USD and carry lots of North Americans, particularly on QM2 crossings. The minimum expected tip in New York restaurants is 20%, and again I've read reports some places are pushing for 25%. We don't use buffets or pubs, but take three meals per day in a table service restaurant. Gratuities don't just go to one waiter and one cabin steward, all the restaurant staff and housekeeping staff who are supporting those you come in contact with share in the pot. When you consider that; $16 pppd isn't really much. I know P&O include it in price but Norwegian and Royal Caribbean are even higher. Glad you liked QM2 though.
I didn't realize some areas of the US are heading now towards 25% wow. I think because we normally include gratuities in when booking , (even with RC we do this )and we weren't expecting it it just felt a lot but Yes it's probably not too bad really , considering we are generally 10% tippers too. Thanks for watching and engaging .
Thanks for your review, enjoyed watching it. You mentioned MSC food being horrible, I can only praise it..been on Virtuosa and Euribia and loved it..incl the shows. I was rather dissappointed with RC (Enchantment of the seas) ..despite the age of that ship, i surprisingly liked it..but especially the buffet, awful..lukewarm, chewy meat, limited choiced..MDR was good though. So, I am in Dec on the Azura..the sunlounger and towels put me off a bit...i mean, i dont need to bee next to the pool...if i only have one for a little while though. I am looking forward to the cabins, i always book inside myself and it looks decent to me. Thanks again!
Thanks for your comment. Glad you enjoyed watching the review. We may have to rethink Msc as you're the 2nd person to say they liked it. We ll maybe try a short one. It shows everyone is different cos RC is our favourite line. Hopefully you ll enjoy P&O as much as we did. We ve just come off a Cunard so look out for that video. Thanks again.
Thanks for your reply. Not sure if I would suggest the short trips with MSC, as they often referred to as booze cruise. We did the European pearls. I prefer euribia over virtuosa purely for the carousel lounge which virtuosa doesn't have. I personally enjoyed the entertainment team on RC.. We were busy all day on a seaday, literally stressed 😅. Hope it is at least half as good on P&O. Looking forward to your cunard tri3, I don't think it's for me personally as the strict dress code puts me off.. I do love my jeans 😅. Have a great day.
It's not children's afternoon tea, it's just children's tea at 5pm, so nuggets, pizza, chips, jelly etc. It does say in the horizon 😊
For some reason we thought it was afternoon tea. Probably our excitement thinking we might get cake. 🤣

Whaaaaat? I don't have a credit card and have no intentions of getting one. Why on earth would thry charge you twice??
I'm really not sure about the policy BUT it definitely wasn't a mistake. They do refund pretty quickly however they have definitely charged people twice , purposely. Thanks for watching the video. Hope it gave you some useful information.
Good info, especially about the debit card. I've used P&O Azura and Marella- they both have their strengths. Marella has more itineraries, fewer sea days and friendly service, but P&O is cheaper and better value for non-drinkers.
Thanks for that. We re non drinkers but the rest of the party spend a bit on drinking so we thought we d give it a go. Glad you thought there was some useful info as it's our first cruise review.
