Dedicated to the culture, cuisine, sports, history and people of the Caribbean Islands. Explaining the many different places, foods, music and other aspects of Caribbean life.
Caribbean Culture Explained with Food
The Caribbean's diversity explained through its cuisine. Many different cultures came through the Caribbean over centuries, each leaving their mark on the daily lives of Caribbean people from what they eat, to how they prepare it.

Corn and tomatoes brought in by others? These were both indegenous yo meso America, and no doubt introduced by them into the Caribbean. We don’t rely on corn, the cassava served that function as well as dried fish. But I would hesitate to say that it came from far away and that the natives were unfamiliar with that crop
Beautiful perspective. A great introductory video for teaching Caribbean history.
So it is a cocktail of cultures became carib food. It fantastic
African callaloo is different from some of the callaloo in the caribbean. Jamaican callaloo is a native tree, used by the Tainos

Ayyeeee saw sofrito and arroz con gandules! 👏🏾🙌🏾 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷 Caribbean people we are one! 💪🏾
That’s because we 🇨🇺🇩🇴🇵🇷 are NOT Latin American, we have to STOP keeping 🇩🇴🇨🇺🇵🇷US🇵🇷🇩🇴🇨🇺in that box!.. That’s one of the reasons ppl are not understanding why we ((especially, the island of 🇵🇷) are not free yet/independent yet… AGAIN, SPANISH SPEAKING MEDIA WITH THE MALICIOUS INTENT AND HELP OF THE U.S. WHO HELPED PUSH THAT FALSE NARRATIVE TO STRIP OUR CARIBBEAN PRIDE SO THAT WE WEAKENED WITHIN CARIBBEAN SOLIDARITY… THEY (EUROPEAN POWERS) WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER WHEN US CARIBBEANS STOOD WITH AND SUPPORTED EACH OTHER THROUGH MANY REVOLTS… WHY DO YOU THINK THE REST OF THE CARIBBEAN WOULD LOVE TO INCLUDE US WITHIN THEIR UNIONS SO THAT THE CARIBBEAN MOVEMENT AND SUPPORT FOR EACH OTHER IS STRONGER, BUT THESE TITLES EMBED A DIVISION AND EXCLUSION WE DISPLAY ON OUR (🇨🇺🇩🇴🇵🇷) BEHALF! We are Caribbean/“The Spanish Caribbean”… BUT A CREOLE PPL! NOT SPANISH, NOT LATINO/A!!!!
Insane 😍😍😍 I have a food page too guys check me out!
Good example is Breadfruit, brought in from the Pacific, Tahiti.
Great video, however, Yam originated in Africa. It was brought from Africa on the slave ships as it does not rot quickly and so could last on the middle passage journey. After some time Yam grows shoots and these were planted in the Caribbean Islands. Yam is probably the only crop brought from Africa and should not be forgotten.
Also, Okra.
Okra and Black eyed Peas are also from Africa
Correct
Okra Hibiscus aka sorrel Tamarind Watermelon Tannia Sesame aka benne Black eyed peas Pigeon peas Coffee Plantain and bananas Kola Oil palm Cotton RICE

I came for food ideas and was educated! Thank you!
I’ve been making money by cooking and baking Western and Central European derived dishes, along with traditional “ American” ( cornbread, baked beans, bbq) food. I became so interested in food that aren’t exactly in that orbit of influence. I took a liking to attempting to make Indian korma, Thai green curry, with moderate to good success. It seems that the exquisite and neighborly food of the Caribbean would be a great place to try.

anyone from calra selbebs class?
Love this! Very enlightening.
caribbean is indian food but with addition of nutmeg and rum 😂
Nah I'm sure Indians didnt have pimento, stir-fry, jerk, noodles, yam, plantain, yuca and many other things. Indians contributed a lot but not most
@@madeinjamaica7025 yuca es literally an American Indian word
@ALYoungFuture Tainos weren't East Indian and yuca is a Taino food. Many Caribbean countries, such as Hait, etc, don't have Indian influences.
Don’t be an ass please, try your best…
Caribbean food us Amerindian + European + African + Indian + Chinese
