Spectacular Rhododendrons, Vancouver Island, BC
มุมมอง 104วันที่ผ่านมา
Southern Vancouver Island is known for it's spectacular rhododendron shows, often when the rest of Canada is still shivering. A late, cool spring in 2023 meant that most rhododendrons came out simultaneously. This made for a show even more spectacular than usual.
Oregon Caves National Monument

A walk through Oregon Caves. I'm not usually a fan of caves, being somewhat claustrophobic, but I enjoyed this experience. It's a much more authentic and immersive experience than some of the bigger US caves - Carlsbad for instance.

Hadrian’s Wall Path For Old Folks, Northumbria, UK

The complete route from Bowness to Wallsend with detours to Vindolanda and Coria (Corbridge) at a gentle pace suited for older age groups. Note that Day 1, Carlisle to Bowness, should have been split into two. However, we were unable to find any accommodation and planned on using the bus. Unfortunately we chose to walk on a long weekend when the bus wasn’t running and had to cover the whole 27k...
Hiking in Grasslands National Park, Saskatchewan
มุมมอง 187ปีที่แล้ว
September hiking in this unique part of southern Saskatchewan. It's a good time to go once the summer crowds have disappeared. Hope the video delivers some useful input for you to plan your own hikes. The trails are well signed and not too arduous. Be aware though that, although this is "flatland", there's a surprising amount of elevation gain up and down the rolling hills.

New Zealand North Island; 10 Hikes Less Travelled
มุมมอง 406ปีที่แล้ว
New Zealand’s North Island tends to be less touristy than the South. Even so, there’s plenty of folks on the popular hikes such as the Tongariro Crossing. So, if you want to leave the hordes behind and enjoy some kiwi splendour in relative isolation, try one - or all - of this list of 10 hikes where you have a decent chance of meeting few people along the way. Kiwis themselves tend to eschew th...
Hiking The Mountains of The Falkland Islands
มุมมอง 402ปีที่แล้ว
Falkland Island mountains are neither high nor particularly rugged. They’re more like high heathland topped by ridge-like tors. What challenge is lost to simple lack of height, however, is more than made up for by the conditions. There are no trails. Risk of hypothermia is ever present. The constant frigid wind, uninterrupted on its passage from the Antarctic, can literally blow you off your fe...

Travels in Myanmar
มุมมอง 17Kปีที่แล้ว
After decades of repressive but contested military rule Myanmar - or Burma - began a gradual transition to democracy in 2011. Aung San Suu Kyi won the Nobel Peace Prize and the world began to hope for better days for the country. Some areas remained off limits at first but by the time of our visit in 2016, everywhere was nominally open, although Canadian government travel advisories precluded y...
The Westweg 2018. Pforzheim to Basel, Germany
มุมมอง 217ปีที่แล้ว
A year after finishing the South West Coast Path in the UK and bitten by the long distance path bug, my wife and I decided to try something a bit different. I had lived in the Karlsruhe area of what was then West Germany from 1974-1976 and had done some hiking in the “Nordschwarzwald” during that time and afterwards, and so the Westweg (West Way) from Pforzheim to Basel seemed like a good choic...
The South West Coast Path The "Easy" Way. Part 3: Plymouth to Poole
มุมมอง 212ปีที่แล้ว
Doing the South West Coast Path the “easy” way. In three trips from Canada between 2013 and 2017 my wife and I completed all 630 miles of the South West Coast Path from Minehead to Poole. In fact, when you add in side-trips to accommodations or points of interest as well as the optional circuit of Portland Island, it was more like 680 miles. Not for us the heavy packs, freeze died meals and she...

Hi, can you tell me if along this path there are areas equipped ( like showers and others) for those who sleep in tents? Thank you

    • @vancouverislander
      @vancouverislander ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Simona. Hard for me to reply accurately since we only stayed in hotels and inns. However, I can say that we saw various “campingplatz” along the way and none seemed to have anything other than places to put your tent. Maybe phone the Swartzwaldverein and ask them directly. Anyway, good luck and Viel Spaß. Martin

It’s not a question of safety or not. Going there lends legitimacy to the appalling Tatmadaw. Your tourist dollar goes mostly to them. Don’t do it!
