"Vice Grip Garage" Wipe on Clear Coat Patina Project Mercury Meteor
Just wanted to make sure this kit can work with what I have. I have a 69, 396 mark IV. So is this the kit I would be getting as well?
Your doing great work sir!
For god's sake man, please buy some proper tools...
They repainted the engine at some point. In one shot looking at the valve cover you can see the original darker blue. Has it been out of the car?
No the engine hasn’t been removed. They painted the upper half ( in the car) in prep for the Meccum auction. The car did not bring any bids above the reserve and the car was parked.
Fantastic job! Happy to see the detail you put into this project…I’ve learned a ton. Really looking forward to the finishing touches
very nice job love that kind of cars
I had a 77 mine was dark blue. Just subbed.
I had a 78 Formula 28 years ago. It was a blast. I would like to find another someday. Thank you for sharing!
The coronet 440 is a trim package and not an indication of engine size.
I did not know that. I thought like the chevy the emblem represented the engine size. I guessed that was the case with the Rambler when I saw the 660 emblems on that car. Thank you for the clarification!!
@@dadbodsandhotrodsgarage You're welcome. I once almost baught a 63 dodge 440 which had the wide block 318. I think they called them a 318A or something. They look like a big block.
I did like the body style of that car. I am sure it would need a ton of work and time I do not have. 318A is a rare engine right?
@@dadbodsandhotrodsgarage 318A is a base line engine so I imagine it is common as far as it goes. None of these cars are common anymore. If that car had RT emblems on it, you would have a more rare car. It would be a 440 or help car then. If I had the resources, that car in this video would be on my list to aquire. For now I am focused on my 73 roadrunner I have been sitting on for some 34 years. It's time.
Great Content
Thank you keep checking in for more!!
thank you for taking your time and spending time making this video of the old cars and trucks i like the 1954 dodge panels and the 1955 dodge pickup i look forward to your next video.
Thank you very much! I have another video going up today!
Amazing variety of vehicles, such a shame on some of those, reminds me of that show after people I believe it was.
I was just amazed to find a 53 Belair and a 71 Chevelle side by side. just shows that nature will take back over when it can.
Awesome video! Seeing all those trees out of the cars. They've been there a long time
I had been to this yard in the past, but I did not see all of these cars before this trip! I enjoy seeing these cars it is truly awesome.
nice car, but id like to add that holley sniper is terrible, someone i know said it caused him and his friends motors to blow up, theres nothing wrong with the carb, in my eyes is an old car leave it old and appreciate it for what it is, if you want modern you can always pick up a challenger, mustang and camaro and turn the key
Your friends are bobos 🤡 Find new friends that can comprehend directions
I have had many carbureted cars in my lifetime, and they are great as long as they are not left to sit for too long and are well maintained. I have been using Holley systems for a few years now with great success. knock on wood that trend continues. I have been impressed with this Sniper unit. I know Holley had issues with the original ones, but they have made some changes and upgrades to this unit. I did just install one in my 1971 Chevelle (not yet running), I will keep you guys posted if they work. Thank you,
Do you always believe everything a guy tells you. There are literally thousands of those units working great right now. I suspect the guy that gave you that hot tip screwed something up. Oh and I'm a Senior Master ASE that was fixing carbs for pay when that car was new and they sucked from the factory. There's a reason all cars are injected now.
@@matthewmoilanen787 yes I believed him because he showed me a little thing called evidence...never have I ever heard anyone saying a carb caused their motor to lean out and blow up on its own driving in regular day use... I never said that EFI or MFI is worse or carbs are any better its just holley sniper thats trash, its an aftermarket system.....not OEM that is totally different, holley hasn't spent 10s of millions on testing and innovation for their EFI systems nor do they have the same amount of experience as any major manufacturer to make a perfect proven system....Holley has been bought and sold and tossed around over the past 50 years he is a multi millionare also...so he deals with the best shops around as he has many cars all of them worth over 100k easy also you are making 2 separate and major arguments after what I had just responded to....Quadra jets are great carbs....mine has yet to fail...or cause any issues...and its an original from 1970.... its your opinion that they "sucked", my square body plow truck with a Qjet on a SBC starts right up at -20 degree C mornings.... all cars are fuel injected today because of 1. Fuel Efficiency and general efficiency 2. User friendliness for non mechanically inclined people 3. Responsiveness

Nice, I love 2nd gen firebirds. I have a 79 10th anniversary edition TA. For a long time I thought the 74-76 had the worst looking nose cone but they’ve grown on me.
That is great, I love the 79s. My favorite was the 70-73. I had a 73 Firebird (should have kept it). This one is a blast. the next video is coming out today keep checking in! Thank you
@@dadbodsandhotrodsgarage Definitely, and 70-73 are hands down the best looking cars of all time. I'd love to have one some day.
@@motov8-garage832 If the prices ever go down enough or I find a good deal, but we know how that goes.
I meant to comment earlier, but this has been amazing to watch. Cant thank you enough Robert!
My pleasure for sure. This is an amazingly well preserved and cared for TA. Thank you for letting me work on it! The next video is being loaded tonight.
Very nice car! Thanks for sharing
No problem, I love these cars and have owned several over the years (wish I would have kept a couple of them).
Why aren't you telling us more about the car? We aren't interested in hearing music in car videos!!!
You make a good point. I am trying new things with my videos so your input is greatly appreciated. Keep an eye out for the next one!
why did you lap weld the pan? That is a great way to trap water and create rust again. Not the correct way to do a floor pan. Just my opinion. Let the hate fly..........
I am not a welder by any means. I did my best to seal it up with seam sealer I also do not plan to drive it in the rain or snow. Thank you for your input.
I like your idea with the steering column! Might use this idea on my chevelle I am restoring. I have been using your videos to help me work on my chevelle! Thanks
Awesome bud. Any pics of your project.
Love seeing more content on your car John ! I still gotta go for a ride some time
Very cool truck ! It be great when you get it runing
Jenny and I love this car. It rides smooth and pulled great without the turbo. Glad to see you are still messing with it and making it a bit better and better.
Thank you bud. It is fun to keep building the car. I need to finish the fuel system so I can turn it up!!
Fantastic to see more videos of people using this kit, looking forward to doing it my self in my 79 elco
I am very happy with the kit so far. Haven’t gotten the car done yet so time will tell if the trans can handle the BBC engine.
I used to have a two door version of this car. It had a 352 v8 and that car could move.
That’s cool bud. I need to fix the trans and this one will move. Lol
What a shame.
Great find. Ironically I recently almost bought a 71 Chevelle, but missed out on sale. Ended up finding a barn find 69 Cougar.
Your front windshield should be the last thing you install. No engine in yet. no instrument panel in yet. Hope you don’t have any instrument/electrical issues. It’s a lot easier to deal with those issues without the front windshield in. Been there before…….
Sweet work.....gonna start on my chevelle this summer
Awesome! Nice to see it running. This is the previous owner,Bob
Bob, we need to catch up.
Give me an email or phone number.
That looks very cool !
Thanks bud. I can’t wait to try it in the car!!
Big block chevelle love it.
Thank you be sure to watch all of the series. Do you have one or have you in the past?
i had a 62 meteor same color but a 6 tho ... i was young and was hard on the old merc..wish i had it back..any vids of the restore?
That is awesome. I know I was hard on my cats when I was young. Never occurred to me they would be worth something in the future. You can see all of the vids of the Meteor on my channel.
That 62 was a completely different car - much smaller than this full size car.
@@jamesbosworth4191 it's the same car
@@kevinclapton7835 No it isn't. The 62 Mercury Meteor was the Mercury version of a brand new "mid-size" car - Fairlane for Ford, Meteor for Mercury. It had a 115.5 inch wheelbase. The 1961 Meteor was a full-size car - on this side of the border a less expensive Mercury with a 120 inch wheelbase, on the Canadian side, a retrimmed Ford with a 119 inch wheelbase.
Hell yeah man!
Thanks man! i have to fix the trans now
I drank my 1st beer in the back seat of a '69 XR7 in 1979 . I've often wondered what happened to her car.
Life can be devastating...so sorry to hear about this.
Thank you.
There are no words. A total heartbreaking situation.
Thank you. Appreciate that!
Oh my. I cried a little for you after seeing how much love you put into your Cougar.😢 Are you going to restore it again. I've seen guys bring back cars in that shape and worse? Did the shop have insurance? I hope you didn't give up on your baby. I always liked the Cougar better than the Mustang because it had more style and luxury.
No the car was a complete loss. Couldn’t rebuild it if I wanted to. The shop did not have insurance. I had to move on to another project car.
Absolute heart breaker, I always liked the '69-'70 Cougars ever since an old boss of mine at a shop I worked at in the early '80s had one that he fixed up for his wife, a dark green metallic '69 XR7 with a black vinyl roof. Way cool car. I hope everything works out as well as possible for you.
Sounds just like my car. It was being painted dark free and had a vinyl roof. It hasn’t worked out yet but I now have a 71 chevelle.
Awesome job!
Just got three Corvair projects 1960 1963 2-door in 1964 four-door😊
Love the early models. What are your plans with them?
Love the Meteor,my first car was a 1961 Falcon that was originally that same color.
Sweet! I love these old cars!! The colors were awesome!!
It's only the 300 horse engine with the flat top pistons and the small valve heads
Then I guess we need a power adder!?! Thinking supercharger
A cool find. I have a 71 Malibu convertible. I'm the 2nd owner, bought it July 2nd 1980 when I was 17 years old - my first car. Originally a 307 with a turbo 350 and a 10 bolt, it now has a 688 HP 489CID tall deck big block, a TCI TH400, and a Moroso posi pumpkin. It's setup as a road racer, with twin NASCAR radiators replacing the nose, a 9" snorkel flanked by twin L88's for a hood, and a F-40 wing'. They look nice in white. Mine's red - GM #68 - they called it "Cranberry Red" for 1971. Black interior, white top.
That is awesome! Great to hear you have been able to keep it all those years. Would like to see some pics of it.
That 4 bolt block is supposed to have a steel Crank, dot rods and forged dome pistons.
Really? I didn’t know that but it would be nice if it did.
Full closed chamber heads, you couldn't have done better. Flat top pistons and open chamber heads don't build enough cylinder pressure.
I thought about making changes while i have it apart, but the work that was done was so good, i think i will leave it as is! I will be doing a lot of videos of this build and keep you guys posted. Thank you for the comment.
A Spyder drove up beside her and took Ms Muffet's breath away.. th-cam.com/video/LNoE1iBkC2s/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_ncKWuZvSuw5gFZW
Keep up the good work love it !
Thank you bud.
Did you find or steal it noing it was there lol did you pay for it does it have a title got the keys
It was a good deal for sure, but no i didnt steal it. Has a title, no keys!
I would get rid of that trans and put a turbo 400. 700 r4 is a junk transmission
My plan is to convert it to manual using a late model GM trans.
