Thanks for the memories. I fished the Drum, Beecroft and Devil's Gorge up to the mid seventies, with a trip to Green Cape with Nick Demchenko thrown in where we met the Victorian crew of Geoff Wilson. Turned pro in 1976 and fished the Banks with John Ellis. I still plan to do a Hat Head trip, maybe this year, Not getting any younger.
Cheers loved and miss all those spots down at JB esp the drum/ diamond reg Phil a
Tuna steaks? Dam man sushimi that with some soy sauce wasabi and rice 🤤
Aweeeesome video brother. Love your land based fishing style so awesome! Those fish are insane so cool. What size/kg saltist is that one? Legend! Subscribed to your channel for sure. Lets goooo 🤙🎣
Cheers 4500 h saltist only 300m on board so I use plenty of drag cheers Phil a
@@philatkinson-hw1qe legend! Thank you so much. Awesome fish and content. Keep on fishing hey let's go! 🤙
Maaaaaate! Great vídeo awesome
Cheers
this has got to be some of my favourite content on youtube to ever exist, many thanks for putting it out phil! just wondering why you use daiwa for the spin gear but shimano for the overheads? is there a specific reason for each?
Cheers my spin gear is daiwa saltiga threadlines and my overhead spin is also daiwa SL50SH 6..2.1 fir livebait reels I use a mixture of penn international and shimano TLD reels - cheers Phil a
A good gaffman is worth his weight in gold on the stones, well done Phil. Can be the doing of a good day or bad day depending. Now is a great time for big beach combing/headland Spaniards in far northern NSW. I find them bigger on average in close now chasing the tailor and mulllet. Hope I get one too next week
Agree I’m thinking we’ve got about a month of mackerel water to go on the north cost of nsw - cheers Phil a
G'day Phil, love the videos, watching this after getting smoked by a tuna whilst chasing tailor, didnt stand a chance haha! Do you have a vid where you go through the gear you use?
Sorry mate, just seen further down you answered a few people about rods and line 👍 How much line do you have roughly. I had around 200m of 30lb but didnt last long
Scott I’ve only got 300 of 50lb braid but I fish real heavy drag and 80lb leader the last fish have a good account but I stopped it with about 120m left on the spool , with 30lb braid you could go close to a spool job if you hook up at the front end of a long cast , 40lb braid is a good choice and popular
Flashback!!!
Good fun
do these fish come around the headlands around coolangatta?
Yes prob breakwall at dbah chasing mullet and tailor
awesome..especially off my home headland, that North side is not an easy place to land fish.. i was watching spinning for Spaniards coincidentally on TH-cam last week..
Cheers def not easy to fish reg Phil a
Epic LB Mack for anywhere, even better in NSW! Music sounds familiar.......
Yeh Dave I want one , I don’t like being the gaff man too often
Spanion off the rocks …Awesome
Cheers Jezz was certainly happy I was jealous but happy to help out reg Phil a
Great tribute to Ron - wonder how many fishos tried their hand at LBG after watching the classic, 'Spinning for Spainards'. I'm sure those metal lures would work just as well today and Ron's theory about the man who makes the most casts, catches more fish, still holds true.
True Frank it’s like fast bowling keep throwing them down , line and length and eventually it happens - cheers Phil a
Great fish off the stones. I lost a big one off Hat nearly 30 yrs ago on a home made brass jig. Never returned for another crack at them.
Same and I keep going back and keep losing them - cheers Phil a
@@philatkinson-hw1qe haha. Fairly sure I fished the ledge at point perp with you before and after landbased addiction. Think we did OK given the gear we had 🤙
good to see you hit over 1k subscribers sir!
Well done mate nice long tail tuna ...👏👏 Where about in NSW ? How many lb the leader you are you using on lure and in your main line .
North of port Mac , 50ld braid , short double , gf knot and 80lb leader if I’m Solo , 60lb if not - cheers Phil a

Tell me about it. Times change. Your videos were always well narrated. Your vids told a story. Legendary.
Great video Phil. Good to see these new videos after those classic LBG originals you created on VHS. Me and my mates used to watch your videos before each big LBG trip back in the 90s for motivation and build excitement. LBG is a tough slog. I'm still chasing a decent pelagic off the rocks after all these years. Thank you
Cheers mal ? Keeps me fit , I know I could do better given time effort and money but hey it’s honest and not in some fr flung destination where anyone can catch a fish - reg Phil a

@@topendgold9284 same-LBG bonds never break- watched Marlin Off the Rocks for the first time in a decade the other day, we both walked into Diamond together, you had your birdman T-shirt on- what a time capsule for the future we've left.
Hahahahaha, wish I still had that shirt, it was an original birdman stuka shirt stolen off my clothes line.I remember most of that day actually. The old LBG bonds are powerful, same as ex service bonds. I know, I have both.

Wow Phil, yr vids amazing, and addictive. I can’t catch Bream, sort of catch Flatties, and can catch Tailor when they’re on. Last several weeks, have, on Mid North Coast off a Breakwall I’ve been targeting these Longies. I’ve seen them caught there, two landed in front of my eyes, last couple weeks. I haven’t had a sniff. Reckon I’d get spooled on my first attempt. However just seeing these extraordinary fish landed there over these weeks enough! Both were around the 12-15kg and under no illusions that these fishermen were making it look easy coz they’ve done this for years. A joy to watch you gun land based game fishermen go about yr business. Go Phil!😮
Thx Justin stick with it I’ve been doing this for almost 40 yrs it’s a skill for life you’re learning - cheers Phil a
Just found your YT channel Phil, always liked reading your articles in the mags and watching the LBG vids back in the day.Good stuff.
Cheers Mick , was hoping to reconnect with my old crews, after a break from the fishing media I’ve been slightly underwhelmed by a lot of what I see - cheers Phil a
had me thinking it was a gt how he came close and dived for the rocks. good fish
Funny you say that I thought the same thing when I hooked up - cheers Phil a
Nice work mate looks like fun, how heavy are you fishing for them?
I’m 2 m tall and 120 kg and watch my arms taking the hit I’m on serious drag on 50plus braid and I’ve only got 300m to play with on the 4500h salty so any fish that goes that hard for that long is big
Good catch!
Cheers joe reg Phil a

@@philatkinson-hw1qe Mate I reckon you’ll still be casting when they put you in a nursing home. Rock fishos are just made tougher.
I randomly found this video after looking up fishing in nsw, and was like this looks like the beach I go to and realised I went fishing there a couple days ago and caught a 50cm tailor. I also saw a bunch of long tail tuna and can’t wait to get back out there this weekend. But the tuna never got close enough but we had one chance to get bonito but missed it. I’m definitely watch your videos more often!!!
I have a photo of my brother jumping off that Rockpool next to you.
