what did the whistler have to do with any of the movies?

It's an excellent movie, but it's spoiled by the overweight look of its characters, which is due to the image being horizontally stretched to fill current 'widescreen' displays. Please remember NOT to do this again.

The amount of ads during this movie is absolutely sickening

I like all in this movie series. That tune that was playing during the film was sung the co-star of a Glenn Ford movie. She's very famous and beautiful, but her name somehow eludes me at the present moment. The name of the song was "Put the Blame on Maime".

Anyone got an interest in trivia? Stuntman Ken Terrell played the cop who shot Ralph and also was Richard Dix's stunt double for the fall down the stairs. Thus, Ken Terrell in a sense shot and killed himself as he tried to get away from himself! HAHAHA!

It is so strange to see women wearing fashionable fox fur in the 40s. Good suspenseful movie.

I might end up as the vilain in yet another Film Noir too, after having "permanently terminated" that irritating narrator. He reminds me of an idiotic narrator with a similarly idiotic bowtie from one of those countless real crime series, who's concentrating on billionaires and millionaires bumping each other off in their 12 figures -estates that would make Trump green of envy. Ah yes "Behind mansions walls" or something like that. In my head I always see things that happen to Tom from Tom and Jerry (getting flattened by a steamroller, falling down 24 stories while carrying a piano (or was that Sylvester ?), getting electrocuted, and then wishing similar fates for all the narrators who make my toes arch from irritation.

All these old black and whites mostly have the same horrible background violins playing

When I was a child The Shadow was a radio program, long before the event of television. When my father, driving my mother and I home from a visit to my Grandparents, about a three hour drive. Many of the half hour programs were comedies, but later when it was dark, there were no freeways on the route home and as my father drove through the very dark night, The Shadow would come on. I think it was after a program called Suspense and so the scary mood was already set. The Shadow had the same whistle song as the beginning of this film, The Shadow stories used to really scare me partly because he seemed like a shadow person and not a real one. This movie, a great print by the way, managed to scare me just the same way as did the radio program, so many years ago. This film most likely used The Whistler in the title so as not to break The Shadow copyright laws. Just a guess on my part. But all the stories were psychologically frightening. At that young, radio age, I didn't even know the word psychological, let alone what it meant. By the way this movie is very well done.

I watched this for Leslie Brooks. I've been a fan of hers since I saw her play the title role in the bizarre but oddly interesting film noir "Blonde Ice." It was in that film that she met her future husband Russ Vincent. She retired from acting to be a housewife. In 1973, she came out of acting retirement to act in one movie.

Just watched Love Is News cant believe Tyrone basically acted in this movie twice. It's like watching John Wayne in Rio Bravo and El Dorado. I think Love is News might have been better, Loretta Young was a delight.

Strange ending can anyone explain ? 1:03:36 Reading the letter the detective says "this would have saved Harrisons Neck" (proved he didn't kill her ) ....cut to the house keeper .... Did she do it?

Ty and Gene perform very well in this movie and they are really delighted to watch . But script is weak

He should have just asked her to produce a marriage license. Characters in comedies always act like total idiots and it comes off as stupid, not funny.
