Why a High ISO Doesn't make you a bad Photographer
I think a link to the accessories would be great. It makes it easier to do the research and to quickly get the accessories you used.
Thanks so much for your feedback! I completely agree-it’s something I’ll definitely keep in mind for future videos. When you’re creating content, some details can slip through the cracks, but as I keep improving, I’ll make sure to include product links to make things easier for viewers like you. Appreciate the suggestion!
I think Cal does great videos that are very informative. However, I think we need links to the accessories over the table of contents. It's easy to move around the video if there is a table of contents captured in the video, but I don't think the TOC is needed in the video description. Links to accessories = Yes, TOC = No.
Thanks for your thoughtful comment! I totally get your point about links being more useful than a table of contents. I really appreciate your perspective and will take it into account as I work on improving my videos. As I get more consistent, I’ll make sure to include direct links to the products I talk about. Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts
Brilliant mate 👌👍
Thank you! Cheers!
I think the (more expensive) Lexar cards are not needed here at all. The camera only supports UHS-I, the one mentioned should be UHS-II. You won't get any benefit from that extra performance the card is capable of.
Yes, you are correct. This is a constraint of the X100 VI. However, given the cost of SD cards, I think trying to FUTUREPROOF yourself if possible is never a bad thing So for me personally these SD cards I also use for filming in other cameras and obviously UHS - II is needed there really But I fully appreciate the point and I thank you for the comment
First i need the camera
You have no idea the countless amount of TH-cam videos I watched about accessories for this camera before I even bought it
Lens?
I’m not exactly sure which lens it was, but it would’ve been either my Sigma 56 mm APSC lens or the 35 mil equivalent
Hey Cal! :) Thanks for your work, it helps a lot. I have the option to buy silver and black as well. I really like the black, but even with the protective gear, I'm afraid that the top will get scratched easily because of the black color. What is your experience? Of course I would take care of it, but the devil never sleeps. Thanks a lot :)
Hey firstly thank you so much for the message I definitely understand your concerns. I had the same fears when I first bought this camera as this was the first camera I’ve ever bought new. And whilst I know a few other creators have had issues with paint peeling, et cetera in hot weather So far, I haven’t had any scratches or imperfections with my camera Of course I keep it in the half of the case at all time But I am constantly pulling in and out bags putting it in drawers and it’s a workhorse camera so I’m definitely not being too careful with it However it’s holding up extremely well although I will say I think unless you’re planning on reselling the camera in the future a few scratches bumps et cetera only adds to the character and look of the camera in my opinion anyway.
Clip the mic to your shirt. Your voice is dipping in and out and it makes it hard to engage with what you’re saying. Or at least hold it still.
Yeah that mistake has now been learned haha But I always appreciate the message and support so thank you 🙏
Read anything written by Roland Barthes.
I haven’t actually, why would you recommend he’s an author I should read?
That's essentially program automatic on most cameras, not full auto which gives you 0 control and will even pop the flash on cheaper cameras
Definitely yeah I wouldn’t personally ever shoot in full auto as I want to dictate the settings But like you’ve said being able to set the parameters is in my opinion the best option
Precisely explained. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I'd recommend putting some compression on the background audio & bringing it down a few decibels, at times the level's good, but other times it is dominating your audio
Thank you so much for the comment and the advice I’ll definitely think about this for future videos as you can imagine it’s always hard to know what works and what doesn’t Again, thank you for the support!
Brilliant mate! Keep it up
Thanks, will do!
Smallrig thumb grip comes with a wonderful shutter button Try a drop of blue loctite if find it falls off
Yeah if I ever decide to buy more of them I’ll definitely give this trick a try thank you 🙏
Brilliant mate!!
Thank you !!
This is reeeeeeally reminiscent of James Popsys video style. Like... suspiciously reminiscent. Presumably all coincidence?
I think I’ll take that as a huge compliment! I’m a huge fan of James and his work along with a few other British TH-cam/photographers I guess you could pull similarities between his style of video and this one but the creative choices made were entirely my own I hope you enjoyed the video though and found it helpful.
Never shoot in burst. Only time to really shoot in burst is if you are in a moving vehicle. When you shoot in burst you get alot of extra pictures that you need to edit later. Shooting single shot takes practice but the worse you can do is either be too early or too late. Burst really robs you of that practice time.
I understand your viewpoint here and I fact some else has already mentioned it At the end of the day it’s personal preference and I also think the camera brand you shoot with can determine this When I used to shoot with my Sony, I never shot in single shot mode only burst However, since owning a Fujifilm camera 99% of time I shoot in single shot I think it just fits the feel and ethos of the camera However, if you watch the whole video the point I’m trying to get across is that given a lot of us photographers are not able to always go out and shoot on our own if we’re around other people being able to shoot in burst modes might allow us to get the particular photo we were after . Yes there is more work to go through and combing through those photos afterwards however especially for new beginners there’s more chance of them getting photos that they’re happy with And when you’re starting out in photography, just getting photos that you’re happy with is what most important
Good video really, but i was kinda expecting to see a bit more visuals to see the accessories more up close and in detail to consider buying them
Definitely understand your point of view here, For me it’s trying to find the balance between talking head and B roll But if their is a particular product you were considering Im happy to advise as best as possible or create a more in depth video maybe?
For less money I bought a Nikon Z fc with 16-50 and 24mm f1.7 that has better manual control, at least as good image quality and much more versatility. I considered the X100VI and V, but they just don’t make sense. The VI has more pixels, resulting in more noise and crazy big RAW files. SOOC is a laugh. Even RAW files are processed, nothing comes straight out of a camera.
Thanks for sharing your perspective! The Nikon Z fc is definitely a solid choice, and I can see why you’d appreciate the versatility with interchangeable lenses. For me, the X100VI stands out because of its fixed lens and tactile controls-it’s less about versatility and more about simplifying the process, which I find really inspiring for spontaneous, in-the-moment shooting. You’re right that no image is entirely unprocessed, even in RAW, but I think the SOOC appeal with Fujifilm is how much personality you can bake into the images with film simulations. I hope I haven’t rambled too much here!😅
The SOOC for this camera is the point, you get the kind of look you want straight out of it rather than having to edit and spend time on that. It's not that it's that most authentic and that isn't the intention either
@ If you are lazy and don’t understand RAW.
@@caskraker it's a waste of time to sit and edit when you can get what you want directly
@ So you don’t understand RAW.
I have a 1/2 case (Small Rig)with the clever supply short strap. Love it! Similar set up on my Sony A7C. I twirl the strap a few time around my wrist and its a great way to carry a small camera like these. They look awesome 🔥
Sounds like an awesome setup! I’ve heard great things about the SmallRig cases and Clever Supply straps-they seem like a perfect combo for cameras like the X100VI and A7C. Wrapping the strap around your wrist is such a practical way to carry these smaller cameras, and I agree, they do look great! Always nice to hear from someone with a similar approach to keeping things compact and stylish.
Completely disagree with shooting street in burst. I’m strictly a street shooter; NEVER shoot in burst. My Leica Q2 is always set to AFs. 98% of my images are in focus. But we’re all different, right mate:)?
Appreciate your perspective. It’s great to hear what works for you with the Q2. I think it really comes down to personal style and what feels natural. For me, shooting in burst occasionally helps capture those fleeting moments, especially in fast-paced environments. But like you said, we’re all different, and that’s the beauty of street photography-it’s so individual. Cheers for sharing your approach!
Brilliant mate!! 📸👌
Thank you 🙏
wtf is this shit
It's a camera review without the camera 😂 kind of pointless
Thank you for both these comments These comments have definitely made me laugh 😆 This TH-cam short is a snippet of a much longer video on my channel! What cameras do you both use on a daily basis?
The smallrig thumb grip is trash
Well at this moment in time the small rig version is the only one I have tried, Do you have any better alternatives, I would like to investigate some other alternatives potentially.
It fits loose and just wiggles sideways and out. Looks cool though!
Well I have to say in my experience so far the small rig one hasn’t had a fault But maybe I’ve just been lucky?
True maybe I've been unlucky, but the fit is very very loose on mine so I baulked. The squarehood products are expensive, but beautifully made.
Yeah I would like to investigate other products in the future that are more premium Might be a good idea for a video
No, it isn't.
Which camera ia best mirrorless or dslr
Mirrorless cameras give you the advantage in many different scenarios. They are generally lighter and smaller their DSLR equivalents - often with smaller and lighter lenses to match, too. They bring a comprehensive, modern feature set, such as superlative AF tracking performance, 4K video recording and IBIS, where DSLRs are now starting to fall behind. That said, there's still something to be said for DSLRs - and there's still some life in the old dog yet. On the whole, because they're older and lack EVFs, they tend to be a cheaper proposition than mirrorless cameras, and you can pick up some great bargains. The trade-off is that you might not get the latest tech, but not every photographer needs it. I hope this helps answer your question 😊
Anything sony :)
Sony is a fantastic brand, and up until recently was the camera I shot all my photos on. I still use Sony camera for all my video work as you cannot beat their autofocus capabilities Do you shoot on Sony?
@@cal_takes_photos I wish I did. I shoot on nikon, but once I get the money, Im moving straight to sony. Glad to hear you also love sony :)
Which cameras are your main contenders? And yeah Sony cameras are work horses
@@cal_takes_photos Currently on a D3400, with my current setup, I can expect to try and earn some cash, and get the A7MK1. Its a full frame, and a sony. Yes its REALLY old, but its still usable in todays photo industry.
@@cal_takes_photos My mind was on the Sony A7Mk1. Yes its old, but its a full frame, its a sony, its a mirrorless, and its still very good.
I feel that the greens are too saturated in both.
That’s a fair point, I think in a summerier climate, both these film recipes would look far better than they do But of course, I won’t know this until we get some better weather Is their any you are using at the moment you think could be better?
@@cal_takes_photos Aye, the British weather is only good for depressing types of images at this time of year, lol. You could simply change the settings in the recipe to suit you.
Haha you definitely have a point there! And yes tbh it isn’t something I’ve experimented with yet However, I think I might do a video going through the process of either creating your own film recipe from scratch or tweaking some of the most popular ones
@@cal_takes_photos I'm 71 and I only got my X100vi last Friday, but already I have downloaded and set up half a dozen recipes from Fuji X Weekly. I would say it's definitely worth your while to try it. There are lots of instruction vids on YT on how to go about it.
I’ll definitely give it a go thank you
overpriced😂
For a lot of people it’s definitely a luxury item
Ok lad…. Go for the Leica Q3 instead, great value for money.
It’s honestly not though.. For a 40mp sensor with a fixed f/2 lens, built in flash, in body image stabilization, built in ND filter, upgraded video, stellar color science, great form factor and a beautiful looking camera that holds its value, I feel it’s priced very fair. I purchased mine from a scalper for $2,100 and still feel it was worth every penny. 🤷🏻♂️
I mean, you got some fair points there I think a lot of people would argue, though that for a lot less money you could get a camera that was essentially the same if not very similar. Or you will get a more versatile camera like the XT 5.
A drop of Blue Loctite solves the shutter button problem. I've used it on my XPro 3 and Nikon Zf.
Definitely didn’t think of that but could work!
Anyone here ever heard of a darkroom?
Definitely have And I have even used one before was a lot of fun!
The other note about the soft shutter button is that if you drop the camera (like I did) not very far. A foot on to a wood counter top, it can damage the shutter easily. Like mine was lol and that's 400 bucks and 2-3 weeks of being without your camera whilst it's being repaired so. Unless you got a worst strap on. Don't get it. Even then I've heard of it getting bumped in a bag and breaking.
Oh ye I never even thought about what would happen if you dropped it That’s a very valid point Thanks for mentioning it!
I went through 3+ batteries a day when I took a trip to Portugal. If you are shooting while Traveling then having extra batteries is essential.
Oh wow that’s quite a lot I took mine to Greece this summer and managed on one battery a day But like most things it totally depends how you shoot with the camera Maybe I should do a video talking about how I shoot with mine?
Astia pop recipe has been given me many compliments. You should try it.
Thank you, I will Always looking for new film recipes to try out Might feature in a video!
Brilliant mate
Thank you!!
Good video though I do like a shutter button haha
Haha I totally hear you, I also do like them but the fact they can come off so easily, made them annoying for me But I totally get why people like them
Amazing
Thank you
Funny enough, I just got most of these accessories a few days ago and just found your video today! Super excited to get it all and start shooting!
That’s great to hear, out of curiosity which accessory did you pick up? I hope you get some super photos with it
@ I bought the neewer black mist, the small rig thumb rest (and grip), and the peak design strap!
Sounds amazing hope you like all those products!
@ thank you! I’m really excited to re-spark my love for creating after doing it for so long for work.
Love to see some of the photos you take
You should get one of those mics that clips on to your shirt so you don't have to hold it with your hand. You'd be able to hold up five fingers then.
Haha the funny thing is the mic is question is actually a Lav mic 🎙️ But I’ll definitely think about it for future content Thanks for the suggestion 😊
@@cal_takes_photos Really?!
Yeah 😅 It’s a wireless microphone I use for client content with a Lav microphone attached Normally I do clip it on or use an external microphone 🎙️ but felt like mixing it up But as always I really appreciate the feedback helps me create better content
it's a Gen Z TikTok trend

This is my first time watching your video and I loved it. I don't purchase luxury bags and I probably never will, or if I do, it will be pre-loved. But I do buy luxrul occasionally of the styles that I really like. I truly appreciate your comparisons here, which have helped me make a decision about a couple for which I was on the fence. I'll be pulling the trigger now. Thanks for this and your humor.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video, and it’s great to hear that the comparisons helped you make a decision. Pre-loved items can be a smart choice, and I totally get being selective with luxury purchases. and feel free to reach out if you ever want more recommendations!

Trying too!
nice video bro i have been thinking of getting one of these when/if my go pro packs in
Yes they are definitely a fantastic action camera, However since I made that video action cameras like the insta 360 go etc might also be worth considering
