6 Reasons a DR650 is better than a Tenere

    Send me your B&B rack. I have no need or interest in carrying 10 gallons of anything on my DR650. Where are you going that you need that much fuel? I know Australia has huge remote areas, but isn't there a gas station within 300 miles?

    A couple of thingsa you might want to look at is getting a front sprocket counterseal retainer (they can pop out, and VERY importantly, chexk your NSU. They dont put loctite on the NSU bolts and over time they can vibrate lose and the bolts drop into the gearbox (VERY expensive). I assume you removed the side stand idiot switch as well. As per the clutch safety switch it is a point of failure. If you ride the bike hard over bumps, what happens is the side stand drops and the safety switch cuts the engine! As far as gearing goes I run 14/44, good low gear performance (it pulls like a dorm full of schoolboys) and highway tops out about 140, so good there too. Spare clutch cable is an EXCELLENT idea as I have had mine break in the middle of nowhere, spare throttle cable is a good move too.

    Hello! I recomend add fuel filter end of carb breather, I dont mean slide breather I mean carb float vent line. Thats big hose and during time there will be dirt onside carb. Acerbis tan there is inside filter and use have fuel line filter so thats enough. Second place where dirt can get in is overflow hose which is small but still dirt can get in. Just put small fuelfilter end of it. Now your whole dr all passager are filtered. 👍👍

    I have a Tenere 1200 and went down to the T700 (weight, simplicity) and now have been looking at 450's (Kove, Royal Enfield, CF Moto MT; weight, seat height). I am developing an appreciation of reasonable HP, lower seats, lower weight, and low maintenance cost/reliability. I stumbled onto the DR650 which has never been on my radar and have been doing the TH-cam deep dive for a week. Your videos have been spot on and the most convincing of what I have watched. Keep them coming, You have a lot of good ideas for the right reasons and an easy to listen to style. Question, is that dash something you fabricated or is a panel from the fairing manufacturer? I do love the dash layout /of my T& and the whole rally layout is quite attractive. Born in Brisbane, raised in the US, headed back to Oz permanently probably about the time I turn 80

    Similar journey only different for me. Had a V7 which I traded in for a V85TT. Loved and hated the V85. Mostly because of the sloped seat. I seem to be the only one out there that prefers a standard seat for a adventure bike so I can move around on it and not forced into one riding position. Sold the V85 and bought a Toureg 660 which I love. However, you are spot on as far as simplicity. If I was to ride around the world I doubt I would get very far very quickly on the Aprilia. First time in the shop would take months waiting for a part, meanwhile there goes the DR650 zipping on by. You made a smart move in my opinion. Blaze on.

    Good video. Small technical point: You don't use "volts" (you use power but voltage is a reflection of that - you also need to know amperage draw to know how much power is being used). To measure actual power (watts) being used requires a much more expensive inline meter - not something you'd ever install on a bike like this). I doubt the voltage meter will show much other than the charging system is working or it's failed. The reason is that when the bike is running the voltage regulator (part of the stator and charging system) will always try to keep the voltage correct no matter what the draw is. The volt meter is not a bad thing but just not that informative, in general. If you see the voltage dropping, you know the charging system is failing and you better sort it out quickly.

    Looks like you need to ride way too clean for a DR650 wow ride it this bike will do alot of stuff not just look good clean chain is new. Plastic chain guide hasn't been rubbed other than chain being installed. Prove the bike is for riding not for bike show!

    I am a huge DR fan, but your "reasons" why it's better than the T7, is ridiculous.. So your 1st "reason" why a DR650 is better than the T7 is because the DR is more reliable, but you haven't owned a T7 so how can you make that statement? You're basing your claim on an assumption. Then you go on explaining how you're busy stripping the DR to upgrade a bunch of stuff to make it "bulletproof" - I thought you just made the statement that the DR is "more reliable", why all the bulletproof upgrades then? "All the pictures you see on Facebook of T7's they're not near dirt".. what Facebook pages do you follow? Seriously, get out of your little bubble. Guys have been shredding T7's all over the world, ex, Ertzberg, how many DR650's did a Ertzberg, to name but one. You can not claim standard wet weight as a comparison when you're busy upgrading your DR. Compare the weight of your completed DR to the T7 if you want to make claims like this. No.6, the DR650 looks better???? Why are you changing the original look to make it look more "KTM'ish"??? Bottom line, they're both great bikes & both reliable. If you like the DR better, thats good but dont make a stupid "6 reasons why the DR is better" video. My friend owns a T7 & he rides it like a dirtbike, they guy is 59. I own a DR and its my daily commuter, come rain or shine. I've riden a T7 & liked it, but I can't afford it.

      @94SexyStang 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      T7 has only been out since 2019!!......any common sense person would say YES, the DR has a more reliable track record, just because it's been untouched for 20 years or whatever....it's just basic logic.

    I'd ride my DR650 anywhere. Good choice and great overview on the reasons for ownership. I think us older guys and gals prefer the looks of the DR because the 90s were great. What were the bits that you thought were cheap and needed replacement?

    Most Aussies, Americans and in other parts of the world are born mechanics, they buy a DR650, spend twice the price improving it and I don´t know if they ride that much, in poorer countries like México you buy one, replace or upgrade the seat and then you go go and go for thousands of kilometers, all I spend on mine is tires, chains and that´s about it. I have a Guizzi Breva 750 and yes the V-Twin engine feels better but.. most roads are bumpy or have potholes or topes (bumpers across the street when going thru villages) which many times neither of these are signaled, so this makes me ride my DR like 4 out of 5 times more often and nothing happens to the bike, the Guzzi is as good also, Greetings from Yucatán.

    A friend of mine lent me his Tenere 1200 for a few days. Gutsy, shaft drive nice on the road, however a but heavy. So I decide on a 750. I nearly bought 1 but the seller changed his mind. I'm on holiday in S.a. And walk into a Suzi dealership, and spot a Dr650 new. I couldn't believe how light this thing was. $9000 brand new , considered buying. Looked on Gumtree and there is 1 for sale around the corner back home. 2017 model 8000kms all the mods Thousands of dollars worth . $8000 so I snapped it up and never looked back. I like them.
