Hello and welcome to McElroy's Motors, home of the weird, the boring and the projects. This is not your typical automotive TH-cam channel. My name is Nicholas McElroy and I have a passion for anything automotive as evident by buying a 1984 Trabant 601S...TWICE?!? I had two of my previous cars featured on other TH-cam channels! I have had my 2004 Kia Optima on Zack Pradel's Shooting Cars and a 1991 Eagle Premier ES Limited featured on the channel Neighborhood Car Reviews, check them out!
I was diagnosed at the age of four with autism and a progressive form of cerebral palsy at Kent State University but even so, I love giving back by making videos so if you like vehicular purchases, road trips, history and anything related to having four wheels and an engine, you have come to the right place!

Someone has really looked after that!
Believe it or not, I can tell you about two cars in the GEO lineup that gave a new look for the aging chevy cars. The Geo prism look was used to gave the caprice a newr look & the Geo storm look was used to give the camaro a newer look. After that, those two cars were killed by chevy & never got redesign.
When they have XR7 in the license plate you know they love that car I love car enthusiasts like this they keep this generation of cars going
@@ericerto8250 I am with you on that. It is cars like my Saturn and this Cougar that represent my childhood. Seeing one so mint makes me so happy.
I didn't know you could get any service nowadays for $50. Some shops are charging over $150/hr near me in NH.
@@johnsarian_cu My thoughts exactly. I thought I would be paying closer to $125-175 once all said and done.
Looks like that Saturn was kind of babied. Not many were. You're lucky to find it.
The previous owner and I got in touch. She is now 95, bought the car new after retirement of 35 years of teaching with just 2 miles on it with her husband who sadly is no longer with us. The Saturn was her Little Green Bean and it has never left Lorain County, Ohio all its life until I took ownership.
$50 well spent!
@@iana6713 Next thing is spark plugs. They have not been changed in 28 years.
@@McElroysMotors 28 years? Whoa!
You must be cursing that raccoon!
@@iana6713 Or did the raccoon curse me? 😏
@@McElroysMotors We may never know!
I am so sorry that the Trabi had to be sold, but as you said, sometimes you have to make a difficult sacrifice in order to free up money for something that is a necessity. I know that feeling. That bit about emissions testing being done on a county by county basis is nuts - we have it countrywide here. Good luck with the Saturn, as it looks like you got a good one - and it was nice to see that big ol' Lincoln again as it's such an impressive thing!
You got to drive a Lincoln from that era! Such a unique experience! #landyacht
Congrats on the car man!😊
My cousin may have seen that same Baja last week!
What block? I'm in Akron right now with a CLEANER white Lumina in Maple Valley.
I loved my citation
Sold Japanese “and” Korean cars as Chevy.. and Chevy, still selling Asian cars as Buicks in Asia.
I've never seen a steering wheel from a Trabant like the one in your car. It must be very rare.
Here in Australia we didn't have GEO brand but most of those cars were sold under there parent company n some under GM Holden. Saturn would made more sense as Holden for unknown reasons stop selling European cars n shifted to Deawoo cars rebranned as Holden, well Saturn could keep supplying European cars.
Greetings from the UK! I wanted a Trabant for a long time after renting one for an afternoon in Poland. I also have a keen interest in the former DDR/GDR. I particularly wanted the Kombi (estate) version so it would be practical for carting stuff too. I found one in December 2020. It arrived in pretty poor shape, and after being stored away I've been working on it since May of this year (2024), including a lot of welding on the floor. It is now very close to being ready for inspection! They are certainly a quirky little car, I get stopped all the time by people asking what it is, about the engine etc. Yours looks in great condition, well done!
Lmao definitely not the only clean one left we derby the wheels off them up here
Ordinary cars that have survived down through the years are really interesting.
RIGHT I saw a pinto for the first time walking home from work randomly took a different side street and boom
@@jdbk1234 Had a blast from the past myself the other day. Saw a car that hasn't been around since I was a kid. (Rover Metro - I'm in the UK.)
I’m more interested in the cat tbh
Saw one of those yesterday. They're interestingly styled, and I'm being generous there!
I just bought one a month ago and I’m very pleased with it. I also own a 2012 Camaro SS but the i3 is just my daily driver, I will say you’d be surprised if you test drove one!!
@@nft200yearsago8 That's neat. I do have a thing for quirky vehicles so I'd give it a chance!
There's a Tesla office in my building. So there's lots of Teslas in the parking lot and there's been one cyber truck for quite a while. The panel gaps and sharp edges are quite surprising and concerning. It's a very polarizing vehicle.
I still see plenty of those Prizms rolling around. Die hard vehicles.

I briefly had a late 80s Pontiac 6000. That era GM was button madness and seeing that SSE steering wheel reminded me LOL. Between the radio, HVAC, and steering wheel pod my 6000 must have had 82 buttons. Hahaha.
@@johnsarian_cu I remember my mom had a friend who had a 6000 LE and with all the buttons, I remember saying to myself that the buttons will never catch on. Then I buy an Eagle Premier as my first car and fell in love with it.
Suzuki cars aren't known for lasting a long time.
I haven't seen one of those in a long time!
Bringing a Ford product to a GM show in Dearborn...that's gotta count for something
@@nlpnt Malaise!! :)
I would recommend avoiding the Fiesta and the 2012+ Focus as they are notorious for their faulty transmissions.
Now that’s facts 💯
Oh, now I don't think we got those over here.
Was fun getting to drive the Lincoln. Cool video!
I recognize that cavalier wagon ! Lol it's me !! 😊
@@jasonburton487 Hey there, Cavalier Wagon owner! You had a sweet little car!
@@McElroysMotors thanks 🙂 was nice meeting you yesterday!

0:00 the fuck?

We had the 4 door sedan ...nice car.
Your friend's Lincoln Town Car is incredible, such a piece of 1980's luxury in superb condition. He must be so proud of it - I know I would be! Thanks for showing us all those amazing vehicles at the car show - the Cavalier Wagon reminded me so much of Vauxhall's version here in the UK. Some people mock the 80's as the "age that taste forgot" but not here and I can only imagine just how rare some of these cars are now. Thinking about it, most examples of what my dad and my uncle drove when I was younger have long since vanished.
@@iana6713 He also has a 1979 Continental and a 1993 Town Car. I have ridden in all three, all are unique in their own ways.
@@McElroysMotors Lucky you!
You certainly go to some interesting car shows. I hope you can make it to Radwood in Dertoit, which i think is this coming weekend, and to Hearsefest in Fowlerville Michigan on September 21st.
