The Future of the Surf Industry - Under Construction Surf Club Week 69
มุมมอง 27014 วันที่ผ่านมา
WELCOME TO WEEK 69 After about 25 years surfing, here’s my bold prediction for the future of surfing. Wrapped up in one word: COMMUNITY. For me surfing was hard to identify with growing up in LA. I think we’re moving toward something different now. As surfers we are caring less about “cool” and more about authenticity. With the influx of new surfers I'm starting to see more people caring about ...

Under Construction Surf Club Week 67 - Frontside Barrel Technique
มุมมอง 1.5Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Ten years ago, I got some advice from Austin Ware while surfing the North Shore of Hawaii. Austin, a former professional surfer from San Diego, was ranked among the top 100 surfers in the world for several years, and during that time, he also coached me. I had a tough time surfing on North Shore early. I got launched by the lip trying to pull in more times than I'd like to admit. Austin started...
Under Construction Surf Club Week 66 - How to Catch More Waves!
มุมมอง 395หลายเดือนก่อน
The most significant thing you can do to get better at surfing is to: LEARN HOW TO IDENTIFY GOOD WAVES. The best way I learned how to do that was to increase my wave count first. Once I did that, it made it so much easier to identify which waves were good waves and which ones were poor waves. Without having an understanding on how to catch good waves and doing it consistently, the conversation ...
Under Construction Surf Club Week 65 - How To Surf The Palm Springs Surf Club (Wave Pool)
มุมมอง 3.4Kหลายเดือนก่อน
After 20 years of surfing , I finally got to surf my first wave pool at the Palm Springs Surf Club! I was invited by a friend from our Under Construction Surf Club, Dave. We originally planned for just one session, but ended up staying for two because it was such an incredible experience. Got a chance to catch up with Cheyne Magnusson, who’s been spearheading the operation since day one. In thi...
Under Construction Surf Club: How To Do A Blow-Tai/Air
มุมมอง 750หลายเดือนก่อน
I recently had a session with a young surfer here in the South Bay, and he came to me wanting to learn how to do airs and blow tails-specifically the frontside blow-tail/air reverse. With the waves being some of the smallest and weakest we’ve had all year, we switched things up and took the training to land. When you’re working on a maneuver like an air reverse, especially in poor conditions, i...
Under Construction Surf Club: How Contest Surfing Parallels Day to Day Life.
มุมมอง 1932 หลายเดือนก่อน
It's controversial, especially in the business world I'm learning, to hear that we learn more from our loses and failures. Do we have to fail in order to succeed? Should we only focus on our wins and try to replicate them? I'm not at the place in my life yet to determine a specific answer but my most memorable competitive moment was when I needed a near perfect 10 point ride with 5 minutes left...
Under Construction Surf Club Week 62 - HOW TO SURF SMALL WAVES
มุมมอง 6412 หลายเดือนก่อน
The summers in Los Angeles can be tough waves wise. Sometimes it feels like we’re stuck with small waves no matter what. But that doesn’t mean we can’t still have fun and improve. In this quick tutorial, I’m sharing two things that help me make the most out of small surf: 1. Riding Different Equipment - Swapping out your usual board for something with more volume or a different fin setup can co...

UNDER CONSTRUCTION SURF CLUB - JANUARY SURF CAMP RECAP
มุมมอง 2209 หลายเดือนก่อน
The January Surf Camp was our first Under Construction Surf Club event. It was honor and so much fun to hang with this TEAM. We showed up in the South Bay every Saturday for 4 weeks, no matter the conditions and gave it our all. We focused on reading the @surfline forecast, structuring our surf sessions, increasing our wave count, bettering our bottom turns and connecting with other surfers. We...

How times have changed
I love when people use the word *secret* lol
I’m from San Diego and now going to school at UCLA. figuring out the spots up here has been tricky but this vid is super helpful. Stoked to be a part of the LA surf community 🤙
Tricky wave with a rare gem for reward
Very helpful thank you
Good info, do you have any notes on the La Jolla area
When’s the next board demo day?
Hard work and research gets rewarded with incredible moments, like that bananas barrel. well done.
Sick vid!
Thanks Ryan - hope it helps!
Great video, well explained and super helpful! Just recently hopped on your email subscription as well. Cheers from Taiwan 🇹🇼
Great video. Do you give surf lessons? I’m a South Bay native. Hoping to get intermediate to advance surf lessons from someone who has competed. Every surf instructor I’ve had so far just wants to push me on a foam board, and when they see I am more advance than that they don’t know what to do next.
Thanks William. Yes we do "Surf Camps." Next one will be in January. Shoot me an email matt@paganusa.com - I'll get you plugged in and help give some direction.
Thanks Matt! Sick left at the end sesshhhhh
Appreciate that!
Tricky beach break you’re speaking my language 🤙
😆😆
Sick 🔥
Surfing is gay
Then you’d be right at home😘
If you think the surf industry includes a product that is never used when surfing (shoes and sandals), then maybe think about what you think the "surf industry" is and what the "fast fashion" industry is.
Sooo… you live naked under a freeway overpass🤔🤷🏼♂️
Great advice and well described - thank you!. What model is the twin fin you're surfing in the second clip?
Thank you! It's this newer model we're calling the "Sandpiper"
Breakdown here: paganusa.com/collections/surfboard-models/products/the-sandpiper
Awesome tips. Super helpful to hear the approach of getting in behind the peak and putting more focus into engaging the fins. Love the simple specificity of these insights.
Never thought about putting my weight on the back foot to engage the fins! I naturally always put my weight on the front foot for the drop- gonna try it this way now Thank you @mattpagan
Excited to hear the stories!
going soon should I bring a helmet?
If you want!
How warm was the water?
WARM. Not sure now but it was about 70 degrees
always get too excited and run right out without looking at anything 😅
Same brother 🤝
Good tips!

So you wouldn’t recommend a 8 foot log … this is a serious question… at 40 years, it’s my daily driver big or small
@@I_still_use_winamp I would say if you use it to get in early, it might be interesting to try for sure! If you’re taking off under the lip, it might be really difficult on a log with the rocker, etc…
@@paganusa9278 thanks for the motivation 😂… You got me a lil worried with the explanation of the stair step in the take off… feel like it’s gonna be like shipsterns bluff or something … haha .. dope video and it was real informative… thanks ✌🏼
My question is how much was it?
@@timkeane2907 $212 for an hour for public session
Thanks brah!
@@cashcade 🤝🫡
epoxy board necessary?
@@mikesurf86 I was riding a pu twin fin. Epoxy might float better 🤔
Great tips! Maybe even quieter on the background music but I liked that there was music
Appreciate you!
Awesome tips
Thanks E❤
none of this shit ever helps just go out and do it, how i learned air 3s
I agree that there is no replacement for actually going out in the water. But when LA has been consistently 2ft and walled, especially in the afternoons - this is a great way to keep the body moving and ready for when the section comes
🙌
Tim we need some air 3's from you soon
10!
You're too kind! 😆
That’s some quality turning right there
Appreciate you!
sick 🤙
Thanks mark
Great tips! 🤙
Thank you! Glad to hear!
