Mount Washington Alpine Resort: Opening Weekend 2016 part 1
มุมมอง 2558 ปีที่แล้ว
Mount Washington Resort, Vancouver Island opening weekend 2016. Cold weather brought light snow and there was lots of it! My girls and I tried to avoid the fog by playing in the deep snow in the trees mostly between Schum's Delight and Rick's Ride. It was a fantastic start to the season, hopefully showing us what's to come for the rest of the winter!

DIY K1 Kaldnes Bottle Filter
มุมมอง 452K10 ปีที่แล้ว
This video is about a DIY K1 Kaldnes Bottle Filter. The sponge filter in this case acts as mechanical filtration with the K1 being the highly efficient biological filtration.
Beautiful 👍👍👍♥️
Thanks for the video, vwry informative and just what i was looking for. Thinking of using these in my IBC tank project 🤔
Tune fucking blows.
This background music lmao
I'm going to be useing this idea in my fry tank 💯😎👍🐟
The only thing I would add is maybe a rubber bumper around the bottom stone. This is an amazing video. I've seen the 2 l bottle versions but what the sponge filter on the bottom that makes this a top gun filter. This is better than anything on the market when in conjunction with that media. 👍😊🥂
thanks for the comments pull back
Well that would filter a 5 gallon tank
Do you think that would be the maximum for that unit? Would you use a 2 l or larger bottle for a much larger tank like a 20 or 30 gallon?
Vaya tontería, se trata de que el agua ingrese por la esponja y salga por arriba, pero solo logran hacer un carrusel con las bolitas, muy mal.
Are you mad bro?
What’s the purpose of this Filter and what does it removes from the Water 💦 Thanks 🙏
Nice Filter
Honestly. This video is perfekt. I allready had the idea. Just wasnt sure if it was a good. No reason using air without filtratration imo.
Thank you for your comments and good luck with your build!
great video
The same amount of gas, through different diameter of the pipe, the speed is different. Therefore, the removal of the 20 mm upper pipe may reduce the water flow velocity.
Nice amazing ideas..
is it okay to use small lava rocks?
I bet you could use small lava rocks in a bottle just like this. It wouldn't be the same but it would actually increase the bacteria amount and the oxygen flowing past it would probably help greatly. These work great in a bottle because they are always bouncing off of each other and knocking any debris back into the water and then it goes back into the filtration of the sponge.
Guessing you need to take it apart to clean the sponge when needed ?
Brilliant.... The powder looks Dry, as I know your on Vancouver Island, is that common?
Yes it is
Nice
How can the beneficial bacteria survive on the k1 media if your sponge filter is removing the ammonia from the water?
It might not be able to move all of the ammonia. So whatever gets passed the sponge filter will be cleaned by the k1 media he also said he prints his sponge filter out with tap water which has chlorine in it and kills the beneficial bacteria in the sponge so it's basically a filter to catch debris

I agree 100%. This is an amazing video and probably a game changer in the industry if people would understand it better. I also just stumbled on this too 😂
How does it benefit by doing this one
has anyone tried using a Venturi outflow to drive the moving bed, rather than an air pump?
Is that the same as a power head ? Thanks
@@richardramey5943 That might be a good idea. I just wonder if the powerhead would be too powerful and just push the media into one place in the bottle? Have you experimented with that idea yet?

Iki ngomong opo toh...
He has many bouncing balls. They bounce around and clean the water.
Good idea broo... i'll be waiting for your next vid :D
What glades are those at 0:38 - 2:00 and 3:20 - 4:07?
Riptide trees
Ok thanks!
@@MingMtnMedia your welcome, good times can be had in those trees!
Good job ! What is the power air compressor (l/h)?
I am using a linear air pump, an Alita. Not sure of volume but I run many different filters like this off of a large gang valve. Some tanks I just use smaller traditional air pumps. As long as there is enough air flow to tumble the K1.
King of diy showed how to make a Ki in a bottle then a while later did another video pointing out the surface area of just 30 pore sponge has many times more capacity ...surface area ...for bio filtration
The author Ken is trying to use the k1 for the bio and the sponge for the mechanical. I don't think he's trying to save the bacteria in the sponge.
I have the sponge filter and the moving bed filter in my tank now you just showed me how to combine the two together. Thanks for the video, great job.
Your welcome! I've made several of these and they work great.
Ur trash at park
haha!!! No kidding and thanks for the keen eye you have. Ur the best!
My dream is to become a patroller there...
the nice thing about being a qualified patroller is that you can then travel to other mountains to work and explore other parts of the world. I'd love to patrol once retired and spend a month here, a month there visiting different mountains. Free passes are nice too ;)
@@ken6474 I work as a junior patroller at a small mountain called Mount Sima in the Yukon Territory. I plan on getting certified when I turn 16. And then hopefully I will move to Van Island when I'm older :)
I'm going next year this year I only did single diamonds but next year im going to do doubles. the only reason I did't go doubles this year was because it was really icy and my dad was a chicken
Shut up
I’m comfortable with blacks and want to move to double blacks. Which run should I start on?
I like to ski along the ridge then drop in to the left through Mangrove or Brumby's. Then up and over the next rise stay right of the bomb shack. Great trees take you out to the back bowl. One word of caution...about the middle of the bowl at the tree line is a steep ice falls cliff so you want to stick close the chair lift or a fair bit skier's right to avoid that area until you get into the bowl the first time to see where the ice falls are. Have fun!
Ken Heinrich awesome thanks I’m going up again in a few days. Just went yesterday
@@prodeddy30. I really only ski the backside with new snow. It can easily get scraped out and not fun at all. Supposed to have a bunch of snow Friday and then super cold Saturday. If so, I'll be back there for several laps.
Ken Heinrich awesome I’m going Sunday
Do Mangroves entrance, it's nice and easy and go FAR left over to McKay and/or Copper Glades. It's fun and honestly doesn't deserve to be Double Black. It's not steep at all. Just be prepared for the bottom bit to be a bit steep with some ice
hes skiing the boomerang i always ski there
Yup, warmed up on the front side then the boomerang is the lift that accesses the Outback. Great terrain with the right conditions!
i like terrain park
Nice! why you so smart?
some just are ;) :)
Loved the video ken.i have 3 of sponge filters just lying stored from old tanks so time to get the drill out! :)
Is this Good is it safe? How often need to clean it
100% safe and works great. The K1 never needs to be cleaned. The sponge periodically is cleaned based on how heavy you feed etc.
Muito bom Brazil
Very nice. Thank you for the video. I find a straight soldering iron works much better and faster than messing with drill bits? Quick and easy. Cheers.
Very good idea! Quickly burn a hole vs. drilling.
What run was this? I have only done the double blacks off the Eagle chairlift, and we want to go to the outback but don't want to kill ourselves.
The 1st run was just a warm up run and was the lower portion of the Eagle face. I don't think there are any double blacks on the front side off of the Eagle. Then in the Outback it was the upper area between Mangrove and Brumby's, through the trees to the bowl. We also did the long traverse (skiers left) around to copper glades. The outback has a mixture of difficulties even though it is all rated as double black. If you know your way you can certainly take easier ways down. The middle section under the lift is quite easy. There are cliff areas as you can see in the video, don't do anything blind in there! The Outback can become scraped out and extremely treacherous if it ices up. Not really much reason to go back there unless there is fresh imo.
Awesome! Have to check it out! 😎
Looks like a lot of fun!
Oh yeah! It was a fantastic day!
Hey there I’m wondering can you use this in a small tank to replace haven’t to buy a 3 stage filter ?
Absolutely for small tanks! You just need to make sure the upper K1 container is low enough to remain submerged. I use these filters with a smaller sponge and a orville popcorn kernel container.
How do you know that the K1 is actually doing anything substantial? You'd blow a bunch of money on the K1, the sponge filter could be doing all the work, and you wouldn't even know it. Are you sure this works at this scale?
That is a very simple question to answer. Measure water parameters. If you don't get ammonia and nitrite building up the filter is working. I also run these K1 filters without the sponge so only the K1 is functional in the tank.
hello can i use ceramic ring in it?
The ceramic rings will be so heavy that they will not tumble and that is what makes the K1 maintenance free. It would still function as a filter as you will be moving water past media.
GOOD JOB. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
What type of sponge filter do you use?
I believe there are API sponge filters. About $5-6 a piece if I remember correctly.
What type of skis are those?
Volkl Shiros 183cm. Love them! Was on Volkl Gotamas before I picked up these.
Sweet, Great video
thanks! Was my first trip to Cain. I now know why so many backcountry skiers use Cain as a stepping stone to hit those big bowls!
That day was fuckin insane! got the first tracks under the chair. 100% worth the 15 min wait
Yes, an amazing day! I skied on the backside till about 12:15 and called it a day to save my legs. I headed to Mt. Cain the next day, of course is was closed the whole week (only open Sat/Sun and some Mondays) and had 75" of fresh! Posted a vid of that day too if you're interested. Was my first trip to Cain.
Ken Heinrich ya I haven't made my way to cain yet, was there in the summer though, I was going to make a video of this same day but my Go pro footage didn't turn out, camera was pointed too far down:(, I have a video from last year's pow on my channel
I really enjoyed the way you explained the whole process, since the beginning till the end! Awesome I'll obviously make two of them for my 100g tank
thank you! Good luck with your DIY project!
