Layering Guitar Tones

Here's my approach to layering different guitar parts to make my rhythm guitar tones, from the session for The Infinite Shore by The Missing Peace. Go stream The Infinite Shore on Spotify: open.spotify.com/track/0Fkfl3SdioUzfWBwc5pH24?si=2135362271d84092 roostudios.org
Hey man! In on studio one as well. Mind sharing your template?
it sounds similar to knuckle puck. i love it!
Hey do you quantize your guitars?
Now do a video on you you go about programming your drums in M&M
insane!
Forget the drums bro, show us some guitar lead tips!
@@st0rm3995 it’s next on my list!
How do you turn down everything but snare when recording drums? 😂
@@mirkomarkovic3438 very good question. that’s where layering in room samples is key. when i track drums, i’ll have all of my normal room mics with the full kit, and then after recording, i’ll do a couple samples of the snare at different velocities, and then layer in the room samples from those over top of the recording.
@burchamjoey oooor you gobo the kit heavily, use dark ribbons as rooms and mult the snare to speakers in the room. Much more natural.
@ ooooor that
Such a good video! 😊
Ur a genius bro, this is so helpful. Definitely need more of these typa videos!!! 🐐
Niceeeeeeeeeee Which Snare do you use ??????
14 inch ludwig supralite!
sounds great! 🤘🎸🥁
I've been struggling with drum mixing for months now, and this helps a ton. Thanks
Long overdue. Crazy groove. Reminds me of OG For the Fallen Dreams 🔥
Might be a really dumb question, but I can't seem to find X-Stressor anywhere. Did they rebrand it as X-Comp? They're both from Kiive and look almost identical.
They hat to rename it. I guess some Copyright stuff. Its called XT Comp now.
@fabiusworld9592 Thank you!
It sounds very beautiful. But, what about plugins on Master Channel. It would be interesting to know.
I have M&M and I've messed around with routing like this, so I appreciate the mix breakdown, but I'm trying to get into processing my own live drums with close mics, 2 overhead SDCs, and a mono room LDC, so I appreciate it even more for that! Great video!
THIS MIX IS CRAZY GOOD
this is so fire
I’d buy a course from you…Just Saying
THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST MIX I'VE EVER HEARD, A HUG FROM YOUR FOLLOW FROM HERE IN BRAZIL
Amazing stuff Joey, and a freakin' stunning riff! Very valuable info for those trying to produce as well as write songs. Riff or die baby!
Immediate stank face when the full kit hit = ez like and subscribe. Thanks for the tips!
oh my god that snare
Yesss pop punk 🎉🎉
Kinda confusing bro. Its sound more midwest emo. I think pop punk has similar taste too. But they can be differentiable. midwest emo has that kind of riffs. the song should be titled as midwest emo rather than pop punk i guess.
less than a minute in and subscribed. what a banger track. love the guitar tone too!
I'm your biggest fan
Modern and massive still holds up. What other libraries do you like these days?
Mate i was like “I don’t know how to get that final drum sounds maybe, i just don’t have the right plugin”…but when you loaded up GGD Modern & Massive i was buzzing. Will be having a go at copying your settings
Honestly I’d love a video on the guitar tones!
That song just CRUSHES. Love it so much, been listening to it over and over on Apple Music. Looking forward to more!
Loved this video, great explanations of your rationale and the hows and whys of what you did to get those sounds. New sub for sure!
The riff is just sweet. Great sound all around. Thanks so much for this video, it is very well explained and reinforces things I’ve learned already but still need to focus on to nail down dialing in a mix of my own. Looking forward to more videos from you!
"A little bit of tweaks" lmao!
@@spaceidoit yeahhhhh lol it’s a little more than that
Great sound, did you get the guitar tone through the QC?
very good tutorial please make an video how you mix guitar amp sims :) how you master channel looks like
@@markfanfare9610 i can definitely do that! there’s another video on my page about layering guitar tones also!
@@burchamjoey yes but wanna see the heavyRHTH guitars what amp sims you used and cabs :) The song in the video could be an incubus song :) Iam working with studio one too, I dont see at your template any gain plugins to match the levels
This riff and mix sounds like it belongs on the Jail Socks it’s not forever ep… sounds so good!!!
@@kevinsonthebus thanks dude! i’ll have to check it out!
monnnnster riff joey whoa. tastee lickxs wow. sorry you haven't been feeling inspired lately. i haven't either lol. uninspiring times? could turn around at anytime. in theory. darwin's theory
great video 😊 I'm looking forward to the video about mixing live drums, it´s nice idea
sounda likw duhjent
Hey man, do you have any issues getting a nice snappy closed hi hat sound out of modern and massive?? Sorry for being unrelated to the video but you seem yo have you head wrapped around this library. Cheers mate.
@@ryza4rox4 not unrelated at all! that’s actually a really great question and the answer is yes! the way the multi velocities are set up in this library (i’m assuming because it’s old) is that all of the hihat articulations, velocity 0-63 are the tip of the stick, and velocity 63-127 are the edge of the stick. so if you’re looking for the tight closed hat sound, try ducking your velocities below half way to have the hats sound tighter. i think it’s a great idea putting tip and edge articulations on the same note, but definitely confused me for a while lol hope that helps!
@burchamjoey bro thank you so much. I was losing my mind
You ever try using folders and creating busses from there? Makes the session WAY cleaner IMO. You can then link folder show/hide in the mixer view so it collapses in the arranger and mixer in sync
@@HMDTEX that’s how my new template is set up now that i’m using external amps instead of the vsts and have a way higher track count! this is just an old riff haha
Awesome video my man, I’d love to see how you get these guitar tones, they’re so sexy
Don’t discount yourself man. Hearing you say things like “when I wrote stuff that was cool” hurts my soul. You’re phenomenal, be proud. 🤙🏼
Saturn is an awesome plugin for drums especially because you can get really nit picky with how distorted or punchy or tight you want each frequency range to sound. I’ve found it to be super good at controlling ringy snares and extending rooms and stuff like that, love that plugin
@@oliver_self it’s literally not even fair how good it is. i didn’t know about the dynamics knob till recently. is a literal cheat code lol
Absolutely legendary
Love it❤️
great drum sound!!!!
Love it!!
It would also be interesting to see about vocal production and mixing without outboard equipment ❤
@@MacKalkin i don’t use any outboard equipment! everything in this video was done on my computer using only plugins!
