And the present progressive loses its -ing in the verb.
GREAT teaching Bafuo=. Maybe I missed the teaching, but I really am still confused and unclear about *when* to use Na vs Be vs Dey and when I would not use a particular marker.. could you help me understand this better and help clear my confusion?
@@PeterRoseman Dey and Be The marker BE can mostly be used after nouns, noun phrases and descriptive adjectives for example I be man ( I’m a man) Peter be di director of dat company. ( Peter is the director of that company) She be yor sista? - Is she your sister? Peter be tall man. - Peter is a tall man (used after a descriptive adjective) While the usage of the marker DEY is more amplified. It could be used after a noun to show the position where someone or something is, after a verb, adjective, adverb etc. Examples showing someone or something at a specific location. Paul dey office, (Paul is at the office) Linda dey beach ( Linda is at the beach) My car dey for mechanic (My car is at the repair shop) Examples with adjectives are I Dey busy ( I am busy) Verb example- I Dey look for my wallet( I am looking for my wallet) Adverb example - Nigerian music dey internationally known now( Nigerian music is now internationally known) For the use of the market NA please watch this video thoroughly to differentiate its use from the markers Be and Dey. I hope this explanation helps. Thanks.
This a good lesson I took down a lot of notes Thanks!!
@@vanessanorthern836 Thanks for your kind words.
I dont get it ...when do you use BE and when do you use DEY. Help
I be student / me na student = I am a student. I dey come / me dey come = I am coming. I dey school/ me dey school= I am in school. Both can be used in the same form, depending on the noun/ verb. You cannot say "I dey student" dey is mostly used for verb, but can also be used for noun too. 'Be' is mostly used for noun.
I am sooo confused 😖
Could you specify where you are confused please so as to shed some light please. Thanks
@@breakingdownnigerianpidgin1685 Thanks for answering. 🤗I didnt expect you to really do it. I Just dont seem to understand when I use DEY or BE. I dey House? I BE House? 😵
@@erikawerner Dey and Be The marker BE can mostly be used after nouns, noun phrases and descriptive adjectives for example I be man ( I’m a man) Erica be di director of dat company. ( Erica is the director of that company) She be your sista? - Is she your sister? John be tall man. - John is a tall man ( used after a descriptive adjective In your sentence I be house, you’re saying you’re a house which sounds weird. While the usage of the marker DEY is more amplified. It could be used after a noun to show the position where someone or something is, after a verb, adjective, adverb etc. In your example I dey haus (you are simply saying you are at home which is the location of the place you are situated presently. Other examples are Paul dey office, Erica and Linda dey beach. Examples with adjectives are I Dey busy ( I am busy) Verb example- I Dey look for my wallet( I am looking for my wallet) Adverb example - Nigerian music dey internationally known now( Nigerian music is now internationally known) I hope this rule will help you differentiate the use of the markers Dey and Be to some extent. I know it can be confusing but try to use my explanation above as a guide. Thanks.
