We have had a string of bad luck lately when it comes to our company trucks. To a person like me with no knowledge of the wrecking yard business, the videos are very interesting. I recall as a kid 40 years ago, the local wrecker business had a radio that was used to sell and buy parts, I think. Prior to internet.

      So I remember a setup that was called hotline, you would call in and listen to recordings of other yards that needed parts and what they needed they had their phone number and would call them if you had the part. Sales people would listen to the recordings any time they weren't busy. It was crazy, you could listen for a long time before it would repeat. It sucked when you missed the number and had to listen to all of them again just to get to the part you could sell. We used it and put our requests on there as well. It has came a really long ways since then. Now there is so much information at our finger tips. I tell our sales people stories of the old days and they can't hardly understand a time before internet. Thank you for watching and commenting.

    Had to way over weight with that many cars on?

    • @autorecyclers9154
      @autorecyclers9154 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends on what is left of the cars, We only crush to get rid of the stuff that is parted out and not much left of it. Then we pull anything that would sell or be good for cores or scrap. We dont buy scrap cars just to crush. The stripped shell of a small to mid sized car without engine and transmission weighs less than 1500 pounds. So we run out of height before we run out of weight. We keep trucks and old iron cars until they are stripped to nothing left, (then we hang on to them and rarely crush them) so they don't weigh nearly what a complete big car or truck car weighs. (the trucks we crushed were bare frames and cabs) A 2000 park avenue weighs 37-3800 pounds curb weight. by the time we strip, drain, even with an engine and transmission, the most after crushing it would weigh is 2500lbs, we use the heavier cars to offset the lighter cars and get our load as close to max weight as possible. We pay for weight slips at Flying J or run across the WYDOT scale to make sure we are good on any questionable loads. I can usually feel when loading, how heavy a car is when I set it on with the loader. It was way easier back in the old days with big Cadillacs and Dodges to get over weight. Back In the day 30 years ago, we had a truck go through the Evanston port over weight and we had to have 2 cars pulled off at the port. That was a mess I would rather not repeat. Thank you for watching and commenting.

  • @stephenwest798

    I'm guessing most of those cars are newer than the ones I drive, hopefully they won't go to make electric cars, that would be sad. I was just thinking about your off-road truck, if I was building a Chevy, I would be looking for an old 348 or 409 just to be different.

    • @autorecyclers9154
      @autorecyclers9154 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They are all late 90s pos cars that we have a bunch of. There are a lot of Taurus and Alero-type cars. We never crush trucks or anything old or cool. I have a couple 348 engines that are waiting for something fun to put them in. I tend to collect a lot of the old cool stuff for projects someday. Thanks for watching

    • @stephenwest798
      @stephenwest798 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Those 348's were pretty torquey, I had a friend back in the late sixties or early seventies that had one in a passenger car, can't remember exactly what model and it would break the tires loose pretty easily. Thats why I think it would be a great truck engine. You must have a web page with your list of goodies, I'll have to look it up.

    Opps, all the reasons to inspect a truck when you buy and every six months or more depending on mileage, if you would have been involved in an accident even if it wasn't your fault the courts would have hung you, something to think about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. You do know that if you put that Styrofoam insulation on the outside of you block building with the stucco type finish the blocks will hold the heat and your building will be much warmer and heat for a lot less money.

    • @autorecyclers9154
      @autorecyclers9154 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For sure on the the inspections and the liability that goes along with it. Honestly, it is not the greatest to show our failures. But we want to show the good and bad parts of our life and our business. Even if it shows our mistakes. We have put some policies and inspections in place for all company vehicles after this.

    • @autorecyclers9154
      @autorecyclers9154 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We would love to insulate and stucco the outside of the building. It is definitely in the works for the future.

    • @stephenwest798
      @stephenwest798 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The thing is, is you are a target for those who would sue when you have a business and if you look at the outcomes of truck against car law suits the courts always go after the business even if it's the cars' fault. I know someone with a trucking company, and they tell me it is easier to pay off the others rather than fight them in court even if they know they were in the right, in the youtube shorts there is a truck driver advising that you stay in your lane rather than trying to avoid someone because if you're out of your lane it goes against you in court even though it may be a difficult thing to do. Running a business is always a challenge and one can never know it all, it is just an ongoing learning experience. You're doing fine and I enjoy watching your channel, I hope you don't take offense to my comments, I am just offering up little tid-bits of info I have gathered over the years.@@autorecyclers9154

    Never having been out there in that country it was kind of interesting to see the terrain, miles and miles of emptiness. Hardly think there is enough scrap metal in that Honda to pay for your gas let alone your time, besides what will they use for target practices when it's gone? What's more you could have been working on your riggs.

    • @autorecyclers9154

      It definitely does not have enough scrap value in it to even pay for the scouting trip and snacks. Since we work so much with the regular business, we like to take on some jobs to clean up the environment. It also gives me a reason to go out and do something other than work. I guess it is my version of geocaching. It is kind of a hobby. Since all my hobbies revolve around the business, too.

    Looks like you're making progress, but it always takes more time than you plan. Thought I'd get a rise out of you last time ragging on you about jawing too much, but not a word did I hear. I run 37's on my CJ5 on Hummer bead lock wheels, they look big on a small jeep. Looking forward to some off-road videos when you get your trucks running, not being fond of naming vehicles you could name your truck No-Name.

    • @autorecyclers9154
      @autorecyclers9154 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It definitely is more work than I thought. I have never built a purpose built off-road truck from scratch. I always drove and improved as I went. So, it is a bit of a learning curve. The biggest issue is deciding where to stop. Also, how to stay on track. There are so many options on how to build and how far to go with the build. I started wanting to change plans. 37s on a cj5 definitely is big for a short wheelbase. Your jeep sounds like a very good rig. Once we get done, we will definitely have some off-roading videos. I kind of like no name for a name. Ray said I should name it Jane Doe since my name is John. Thanks for watching and commenting.
