Where may I fan the pattern you used? Thanks for the great video!
I've been on the fence about these knives but your video and calming voice helps with my struggle. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for your comment. I continue to use the knife and it seems to be a very nice maid, reliable knife.
Where do you get the white ceramic burs? I have searched hard and can’t find. Thank you.
I did a search and they are harder to find than I thought. Chipping away carving supply has a set of white stones. Most of what I found on Google was in Dental supplies but very expensive.
Thanks for sharing. So inspiring!
@@lindawilkinson8402 thank you very much. I appreciate that.
I want to ATTEMPT to see if i can tackle clay art. I recently bought a bag myself at hobby lobby too! And your video was so useful, straight to the point with examples in helping me see what to expect 🤗
@@N_G_H thank you so much for your kind words. I’m so excited that you are going to try some clay. Just keep at it and you’ll get better and better.
I have had a set of these for years. I really like them as well but I also have totally destroyed a few of the v tools. I never knew they even made the customized strop. The strop just hones already somewhat sharp tools, at some point they will need to actually be sharpened on a stone and those little tiny V tools are incredibly hard for me to sharpen on a stone properly. Also I've accidentally snapped a few a couple the stems pushing too hard in harder wood once they were duller than they should have been. For the smaller V tools now I just use the Pfeil tools because those can also be gotten in those smaller sizes and they have longer runs of the actual v groove which gives me some leeway if I screw an edge up while sharpening to correct it again. The gouges are much easier to sharpen on a stone than the v tools.
@@claybowser698 awesome information, thank you so much for your input.
Love the little people
@@dotjohnson75 thank you, I appreciate that
Thank you the lesson Mark .. Dockyard tools are expensive and you got to make them last ..so you got to keep them well sharpened
@@whittler0507 thank you for the comment, my friend.
Had a set for 8 years or so. They’re good tools. They used to come a bit bigger, but they discontinued the 4/5 mm, I believe. Like you said, you must treat them gently as they aren’t made for rough handling. I think that’s why they come with skinny handles now. They’re idea for the work you were doing.
Thank you for your comment. I truly appreciate it.
I love the tip bought the reused blue jean sand bag. Thank you ❤
I am so glad you found it helpful!
You are an inspiration. Where can I find the white ceramic stones? Thank you.
Thank you for your kind words. Most wood carving supplies stores carry rotary bits. You should be able to find them there.
I really enjoy your channel. Question where do you purchase the ceramic stoning bits from?
Thank you very much. I appreciate your comments. I purchased my ceramic stones from Smoky Mountain carvers. Just google with carving supplies. There are many companies out there supplying wood carving supplies. Chipping away is another good company.
Great job, awesome work. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you so much for the kind words.
Happy little ass-i-dent.😂
@@stevenblankenship6334 sometimes I just can’t help myself😂
It's excellent wood to carve! Order some, very satisfied.
This would make a very unique chess set. Thanks for sharing.
I never thought of that, it would make an interesting chess set.
Amazing!
Thank you! Cheers!
Is ist possible that you share the template used in the video. Would be awesome
@@Tom-ox7lb I would like to share the pattern, but it would be a violation of copyright law. I did not design the pattern. It is from a book.
Loved seeing all the gnomes and characters! That is an impressive amount of wood creations!
@@LearnSculpture thank you! With your permission, I would like to mention your channel and show some photographs in hopes of teaching making studies from Clay and accelerating learning three-dimensional sculpture.
@@markdmaker3173 Mark, I would be honored. Thank you!
Putin will whoop yo ass for that
Grand job mark stay safe just carve
Thank you, my friend. I appreciate it.
First time seeing your content, but looks amazing :)
Thank you very much.
Excellent video. You went from gnomes and spirits which I’m not interested in to your excellent artistic birds with excellent designed stands. Inspiring. Great advice. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much, I appreciate the kind words.
Beautiful work!
Thank you very much, I appreciate it
Great video Mark didnt know you can get those rough outs, ill have to look in the UK to see if we have anything like that here.
Let me know what you find out so I can share information with others. Thanks!
Would u know a good source where I could buy a piece of tupelo wood , I'm in canada, and it seems it's very hard to get
Hi Jordy I have your email. I will reach out to you and get your address. I have a piece I can send you. I bought most of mine at a wood carving show, but I will find out a source and let you know.
Nice mark, getting er done😊
Thanks!!!
Great work Mark and excellent video ..enjoyed watching and seeing your work ..you have been busy ..Thank you for sharing my friend

Just got a set of these expensive but well worth it
@@casper1240 that’s awesome, I hope they serve you well.
Top shelf suggestions 👍🏻
Looks cool the music was annoying so I moved on
@@southsidekarl Yeah, I know. I don’t use music in the background anymore.
Quite useful.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi size of the wood bock thank you
If the legs broke on these how would you repair them?, i have Oaxon peacock and one of the legs 3mm broke at the foot.
@@LeannSehon Depends on what type of material it is. Most likely I would use two part epoxy.
And here’s a little guy I made ☺️
I’ve never tried making a clay sculpture before carving in wood. You made it so easy to understand how to do it. I appreciate your talent. Thanks for make such a wonderful video!
@@aliceswann4148 thank you for your kind words. I truly appreciate it.
I love the style of this 🙂. Great music choices, too
@@testsubject10101 thank you, I appreciate that.
I’m trying out this clay rn for a homemade costume mask, and so far what I’ve noticed is that it’s actually a lot like dough! And while it won’t stick to your hands when you take it out of the package, it does definitely stick when you wet it, but it helps smooth it out pretty well! :)
Look forward to your bluejay carving it’s on my list of birds to carve. Cheers from 🇨🇦
Got the set and I really like them. They come ready to work. And as the original knives the blades come sharp. Love the handles and the blades’ metal is really easy to strop and they keep an edge for a Long time. Very happy!
@@joseafonseca3536 agreed, they did a nice job on these knives.
Love this
Thank you, I appreciate that
Great tips. Thanks

@@thebadtraveler I love it, wood carving is a great hobby. I hope it brings you years of enjoyment.
You keep your carving knives in cigar holders….
@@Solid_Jackson thanks for your question. That is the container that they were shipped to me in. Since that video, I built a tool caddy and keep it in the caddy with all my other knives and chisels.
@@markdmaker3173 fair enough!
Hi Mark, I love the fact you share that excellent reference book. It's all about planning and using patterns to guide your work. As I do clay modeling, which is much more flexible, I much admire the challenges you face as a wood sculptor. It was a fun and very nice video to watch!
Thank you very much. I appreciate all the kind words.
Yea thats way I do it too. I do leave a little more extra wood and not cut so close to the line to make more rood for knife shaping to the real size of the pattern.
I make my own carving knives. I use old two man crosscut saws to make the blades. Anealing, hardening and tempering can all be done with a blowtorch, because the blades are so small. Shaping and beveling I do with a hacksaw, bench grinder or file, and wet and dry sandpaper on a piece of float glass. Its a skill worth learning, you can make whatever shape blade you can dream up.
@@RamonMarais-k2k very impressive, bravo
Thanks guys
Amazing that you found a much higher quality replacement part that fit perfectly. It just shows what happens when you let another country take over the quality control of your company.
Thanks for this video mark, we don't have a hobby lobby in camada but I'll try and find it
@@CarvingFusion hey Jordy I did notice Hobby lobby has a website and the clay is the same price on the website as their store.
