I'm a synthesist from Germany with educational training in piano playing, music theory and popular/jazz music. This channel is about synthesizers and electronic music /w cat cameos. The Roland-D10, keyboard version of the D-110 sound module was my very first synthesizer I bought in the early 90s from hard-earned money. I actually wanted to buy a DX-7; not because I knew anything about synthesizers, but because I had seen an ad about it in a keyboard magazine. I was sure it had to be the legendary “Jump” synthesizer. Of course it wasn't (it was an Oberheim), and the D-10 that was sold to me instead isn't the first choice for analog brassy sounds either. At least it was as crappy to program as the DX-7 😉
After a short time, the instrument began to develop problems, there were sudden freezes and one day a memory bank was completely empty. The store where I had bought the D-10 refused to honor the warranty and so I disposed of it after a few years and unsuccessful repair attempts. With this D-110 I brought back a piece of my youth and used its multi-timbral architecture for the arrangement of this song.
Only original presets were used, some factory presets and two from the Valhala Analog ROM card.

Thanks for the video. I'm really happy to know this about Pro-800. I'm thinking of buying it because of presets and analog signal path. Did you find the tone quality of VCOs and VCF are good? I was originally thinking of Behringer 2600 but not having presets for me means that I can find something precious and later not be able to quite replicate it. I'm coming from virtual instrument world and I don't think I'm quite ready to lose the presets. Also if the parameters can be recorded in the DAW tracks, I can go back and tweak things around (non-destructive) rather than just record the audio and have another full run for all the variable tweaking. I'm wondering who Pro-800 is aimed for. I like to use it to make variety of melodic (smooth leads) , rich chords, warm bass tones, rhythmic textures, percussive sounds, etc. Does Pro-800 offer a wide range of possibilities? Do you know if DeepMind 12D can do the MIDI CC as well? It also has presets like Pro-800 so I thought if the recall of the variables is figured out digitally, they probably added those manipulations through MIDI CC as well. Although I'm not sure if DeepMind 12D tonal richness is as good as Pro-800 or not. I appreciate your feedback. Thanks again.
Hi @arbous65 concerning the tone quality, that really is a matter of taste. Personally I really like how the Pro-800 sounds, both VCOs and the filter. I kind of prefer the square wave VCO over the Deepmind12 square DCOs. In addition, the Pro-800 has a triangle waveform that is useful for percussive sounds and additional low end for bass sounds. Speaking of sound design, the Pro-800 is a little more "hands-on" meaning accessing parameters directly from the interface, however some of the features are hidden behind odd shortcuts and the "display" is kind of limited. On the other hand, the Deepmind not only is equipped with more voices (12 vs 8), but there is a fantastic built in effects section and a really extensive modulation matrix, a parameter "sequencer", very capable arpeggiator, chord mode, high pass filter and different low pass filter modes and some more. The CC implementation is quite comprehensive as well, you may check this link squarp.community/t/behringer-deepmind-12/1149 but as far as I know this works in MIDI-In direction only. As an entry point in the world of hardware synths and if you're looking for New Wave style sounds, the Pro-800 might be the better choice. But in terms of sound variation - especially if you want to be independent from external/virtual effects & DAW-based parameter modulation - the Deepmind is clearly ahead, though more complex to operate. I hope this helps.

Anyone know which adjuster on the PCB changes the filter KB slope? On mine the filter is totally closed when playing the far left of the keyboard and totally open by the far right of the keyboard. It's very annoying ! I have schematics and have adjusted all sorts to get the octave range correct etc. but I can't seem to sort this! Thank you wonderful people. Great vid BTW
See 15:08 on my video; you see a potentiometer connected to the PCB with the two red wires. This is the keyboard tracking poti a previous owner of this unit has installed. If I remember correctly the poti is bridging the original one on the PCB. I think there is a hole for adjustment between the two soldering spots of the red wires. Maybe you can find that spot on your PCB and check if there is a poti placed on it. It should control the key tracking.

Someone did a mod like that for the Deepmind 12, so I guess it's just a matter of finding the correct soldering spots on the PCB for VCF-input. The mods shown on maffez.com appear promising, maybe you can ask that guy for a hint.

I was wondering this exact question since i plan on getting the Pro-800. Although it's not quite a Prophet 600, for the money it is definitely worth it especially since the update really makes it sing.

Did you make that pitch/mod wheel for the Kawai?
I actually bought the synth with three modifications; two wheels and a manual keytrack. The pitch wheel and keytrack work as they are supposed to but I couldn't get the mod wheel to work. It wasn't soldered properly when I got the synth. I constructed the simple wooden cover as I didn't like the fact that the wheels were simply screwed onto the side panel. Thank you for the nice comment! For the recording I played all of the CS-5 parts live, the main lead sound (most of it), the intro bell and some of the choir sounds. At the first 30 seconds you can see that I split the control keyboard in three parts to do the live playing. Most of the background sounds are programmed using a sequencer. For a DM-like live playing (= drums from tape) I would agree this is a 3 kb player job 🙂

Её звук не такой песочный, как у Салина, но в то же время у Салина больший объём. Вермона более плоская, чем Салина. Что касается меня, я абсолютно предпочитаю трёхрядные варианты, такие как Trident или Yamaha SK20. Их возможности при тех же размере и весе на порядок больше и звучат они лучше. Цена делает уамаха sk20 фаворитом.

Yep, there is a little rhythm gap after the first tom hits compared to the original and the bass got a pinch more resonance but I decided to leave it as it is 😁

Bravo! You even have the Kawai 100F for the 2dn Lead, it has that peculiar sound on the Square Wave (sounding like a organ to me lol) and the Yamaha has the right LFO and speed changes for the PWM. I'd like more early dm covers with those synths 🤩
