The Reefing of the F/V G.P. Chauvin
The F/V G.P. Chauvin, a former menhaden fishing vessel, was intentionally sunk off the coast of Biloxi, Mississippi on July 27. It will now serve a second life as a habitat for many Gulf marine species, creating a new biodiversity hotspot and a new destination for divers and recreational fishermen.

Please stop depleting our water of the food sources of other species. You had numerous boats just along the 3 mile point from shore depleting the bunker which is the food source for other species. You should be ashamed of yourself.

My father, Captain Deseria O. BIshop Sr., was Captain and fisherman for 48 years. From Louisiana Menhaden, Smith FIsheries, Seacoast Products, Zapata Haynie and Omega Protein down in Cameron, Louisiana. I know of the sacrifice that these men make to provide for their families as well as the great opportunity that this industry provides for communities.

This company is a disgrace. They over harvest year after year, dumping millions of gallons of gray water 200 yards off the beaches we swim in on the Eastern shore of Virginia. They continue to destroy our oceans and just pay a minuscule fine in comparison to revenue. This company needs to be TAKEN DOWN

I do wish something else would be done with your "Stink Water" which is not mentioned in this video. The law says you have to dispose of it at least 10 miles South of our barrier islands off Mississippi but I have never seen your vessels run that far out. Usually it is just outside the pass and once I saw it dumped inside our Islands in the Sound. This water is generated as a by-product of your processing plants and is brought out by a vessel dedicated to this task. I do not believe it is benign oil as we are told. It takes a long time to disperse and fish avoid the area. I have personally asked for a sample of the water and was denied a sample suggesting we might tamper with it before testing. You should have more transparency in this arena. I also wish you would find an alternative solution to disposal of it such as deep well injection like many of our local chemical plants do.

Thanks for your great depiction of your operations. I am located near your Mississippi Operations and appreciate your donation of 2 derelict vessels deployed as Artificial Reefs here. They have provided great fishing and diving opportunities here.

This is a PR fluff piece. Omega Protein Corp continues to kill the Chesapeake Bay. Menhaden eat algae and everything eats menhaden. You remove the menhaden. I can only imagine the amount of money paid to politicians that let you continue to do what you do.

Excellent that the vessel was repurposed! I live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland where the Indian tribe and the river are located, and we pronounce Wicomico as "Why-COM-ico" so every time the name was mentioned in the video, I cringed lol :). Most people unfamiliar pronounce it "WHY-co-mee-co"
