    People who want to get rid of the ethanol from their fuel add some water and agitate the container so that the ethanol / water solution drops out to the bottom and then the pure fuel can be decanted for use in their small engines etc. where ethanol blends can be a problem with fuel lines and carburettor components . What you are trying to here is the reverse , adding , in this case methanol basically , hoping that the alcohol will mix with the water and make that result miscible with the fuel , it never will as you now know . It may allow a small amount of water in a car fuel tank easier to pass through to combustion in older carbureted cars but how it would go in a modern fuel injection system I wouldn't like to guess , or personally try .

      Bad gas, rather fuel that has been left doesn't do any favours which is interesting as the fuel we get here in New Zealand normally doesn't do this in my experience.

      It doesn't help that I have no idea how to edit no matter how much I try to learn it. I had no idea that a service kit even existed, no such thing was around years ago when I used to work in a shop doing this for a living at least not to my knowledge. I was pleasantly surprised that the spark plug was an NGK.

    I just check a cylinder to see if the exhaust and transfer ports are properly broken off, so it will not hang a ring and if the cylinder has a good hash in it to help seat the rings. In earlier times I had to break the edges of the ports with my Dremel, but recent cylinders from Farmertec have nicely broken ports and have a good has in the cylinder. All I do now is throw them in my ultra sonic cleaner with a little Dawn to remove any material left over from the manufacturing process. I then blow them off, dry them, put a little oil in the cylinder and put them on the piston and saw with a base gasket and some 1184.

  • @johnclarke6647
    @johnclarke6647 ปีที่แล้ว

    I rebuilt a MS 260 this past winter and used the Farmertec cylinder and piston set. Have not had any problem with it, as yet. It was a Nikasil cylinder. If I have any problems with this cylinder I may consider HyWay but at about three times the cost of the Farmertec it is something to consider.

    Circlips have only given me a problem when I was sloppy getting them in their grooves in the piston, especially on the intake side, which is why I always put the intake circlip in first. I have developed a procedure to make sure both circlips are in their groove and retained by the wrist pin. The wrist pin has beveled ends and the circlip is retained under these bevels. I take an old wrist pin and insert it in the piston so it is up against the end of the new wrist pin and circlip. I then tap it a couple of times with a small hammer. Then,I do the other end of the new wrist pin the same way. If the circlips were not under the end of the bevels they will be after this procedure. I have not lost a circlip since I started using this procedure.

  • @GardenTractorBoy
    @GardenTractorBoy ปีที่แล้ว

    That is a cool little compressor, perfect for times when you don't need a big compressor, we should get one for that reason

    • @MegaDirtyberty
      @MegaDirtyberty ปีที่แล้ว

      It means I don't need to start my big compressor just for one little carburetor. I think the maximum pressure this one produces is something like 90psi which is more than sufficient for carb work.

  • @GardenTractorBoy
    @GardenTractorBoy ปีที่แล้ว

    Those machines look they have been outside unused for a few years and I think they will need a lot of work. It will be good to see how you progress with these

    • @MegaDirtyberty
      @MegaDirtyberty ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they have been, unsure why they were pulled to bits. The Husqvarna appears to be all there minus the mower deck, the White appears to be all there so they are good candidates to get running again.

    Does it fit on the standard 1.7i mounting points? If it does it's a winner!

    • @MegaDirtyberty
      @MegaDirtyberty ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the Niva I fitted it to was a 1.6, afaia the 1.6 through to the 1.7i is the same. You can use the Niva gearbox but have to use the Niva flywheel (and drill the bolt holes to a bigger size, 12mm iirc) and clutch and cut a notch at the top of the bellhousing for the bolt on plate at the back of the engine. You can also use the longer Fiat "ZF" gearbox and it's flywheel/clutch but will have to somehow shorten the gearbox/transfer case so it fits into the standard Niva transmission tunnel.

    • @MegaDirtyberty
      @MegaDirtyberty ปีที่แล้ว

      Additionally, I made a different exhaust manifold to move the turbo, the original exhaust manifold had the turbo sitting where the Niva engine mount was (being as the engine I used came from a fwd car). I also remade the inlet manifold as it interfered with the brake booster

    I'm working on a 60something cc 6.5 amp generator. I think I'm either going to have to rebuild the carb or just buy a new one. Its been a pain in the ass. Any tips on working on these 2 stroke engines? I've pulled the carp apart cleaned all components pulled the needle and the float off and there were tons of either rust or carbon build up. Cleaned it all up made sure that the parts would fit back and the needle still sticks a little bit. But the carb still has flow from the gas inlet to the needle. Still cant get it to run without some sort of starting lubricant. push it in the carb for about 2 seconds. It will start. Idle for about 3 seconds then try to die again. Fuel lines are clean, fuel switch clean, brand new tank. Only thing I could think of is something in the carburetor

    • @MegaDirtyberty
      @MegaDirtyberty ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like you still have gunk in the carb, the needle sticking won't be helping either, try to get the needle valve to move freely, if not get a new one. The sticking needle valve won't be allowing any fuel into the carb bowl (if it sticks closed). Some carbs have a removable needle valve seat so check that as well.

    • @KrisInEastTn
      @KrisInEastTn ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MegaDirtyberty thanks for the tips. I got the needle and the float moving freely. But now the float won’t float in the fuel and force the needle to stop the gas flow and the carb overflows. I think I’m going to just buy a new one to put on. And rebuild this one for a different project.
