What if Babe Ruth came up today as a rookie how would he fare? As a pitcher or slugger.
It's always so difficult to compare players across eras.
nobody knows. he may not have any interest in modern baseball
How did they hit against each other?
I assume you’re asking about Ruth & Johnson. What a great question! I looked it up, so here you go. It total, Ruth was 2 for 13 and Johnson was 1 for 13. April 17 Johnson 1 for 2 (with K) Ruth 1 for 4 June 1 Johnson 0 for 4 (2 K) Ruth 0 for 2 (1 BB, 2 K) Aug 15 Johnson 0 for 4 (BB) Ruth 0 for 4 (BB, K) Sept 9 Johnson 0 for 3 Ruth 1 for 3 (K)
All of these new made up stats are a laugh
My system says Walter Johnson had the best season in the AL that year, and Pete Alexander easily had the best season in MLB. (Since only one Cy Young Award was actually given for a few years when the award was started in the 1950s, it's possible only one award would have been given in 1916.) Howeva, given the way voters back then might have voted, liking the wins over losses, Ruth probably wins it, especially playing on the better team. (The score represents the number of StDevs over an average historical pitcher. My system does not use WAR.) My score: W. Johnson: 3.86 B. Ruth: 3.67 H. Coveleski: 3.40 Alexander: 4.41
You have it as a nail biter too! it's fun just to think about this stuff.
@@STLsportsaddict My last, detailed comment got removed so I'll just simply say that I have these as nailbiters too (from the Dead Ball Era): 1909: Christy Mathewson versus Mordecai Brown 1914: Bill James versus Dick Rudolph 1919: Pete Alexander versus Hippo Vaughn versus Babe Adams
@@sydneypythias6963 I haven't removed any comments (at least not that I'm aware of). Managing the comments are new to me. I enjoy the discussion!
Babe Ruth was absolutely the greatest player of all time.
I'm a met fan but the best all around starring 8 is the reds of the 70s
Exciting overview! 😮
Rose is #1 in 15 catagories. He's 3rd AND 4th in consecutive games played.
How Concepcion is not in the HOF is a travesty.
The baseball writer of America are a bunch of Racist, looks like The KKK are directing these votes until today
I'm 27 so it's cool to hear such an iconic team broken down like this for someone who wasn't around to experience it.
No Doubt the best team of the seventies. But Sparky was an a****** for saying what he did about their momson
I do not know about that. What did Sparky say?
Great work! Great honouring an outstanding team. To me, the best ever in modern time baseball.
