Our Old Church

We started out as a cake studio and branched out into the wonderful world of renovations. We bought an old 1906 church and plan to renovate it to become our family home. Follow along for our journey of joy, tears and all around experience, with our old church.
Ep. 16 Drywall is ALMOST done, and fall is making us feel Whimsical
I didn’t forget! But this week with homeschooling I struggled to get enough content in on Saturday night to have that Sunday “morning” episode. So, Sunday evening it is!
We put a bathroom fan in this week, insulated the ceiling in our basement to hold that expensive heat inside and got a LOT of the drywall finished. This house is finally starting to look more like a home and less like a vacant, gutted, church.

Ep. 15 FINALLY Drywall Ready & Everything on God’s Provision in our Journey

This week was full, and yet, still spliced completely together. We removed that big beam in our basement that was taking up a good portion of our high traffic hallway. We also did some more last minute framing (I think we only have ONE door frame left to build and we are DONE basement framing). Ep. 13 Pre-Drywall Last Minute Odds and Ends

Attempting to get ready for drywall was more time consuming than I thought it would be. But can you believe it’s only been 4 months and we are already at this stage?! 4 months and we almost have a completed basement. We will have done a full basement renovation for under $20,000 and in less than 6 months. That’s pretty incredible and I can’t believe I can say this is part of MY journey.

Hydraulic cement, sump pumps, and odds and ends all make this house just a bit more livable. Amarya kept stealing the show so we let her host this weeks episode. We sure love our Mar-Mar! Also, sorry about the glitchy video, my phone memory seems to be full and that massively affected the quality of this upload.
Ep. 11 sealing the concrete floors caused a MASSIVE stink!!!!

Odd projects and last minute plans have us racing the clock as we fight the changing leaves to make our house a home. We framed closets and walls, as well as the shower, and sealed our concrete floors. Next week we will finish our concrete floors as well as finally plumb in our sump pump. One of these days we will get our poop in a group…but for today, we have a working and functioning bath tub...

More structural framing as we attempt to relieve pressure off an existing beam held by a telepost. We have been helping friends flip houses for a long time. Unfortunately, when it’s your own home, you second guess every move. We had a 2x6 holding one of our floor joists, that was also sistered with a joist held by a span that was too long to be considered effective. Finally installed ducting into our laundry room, which was the last step to getting laundry up and running in our home. No more spending loads of money at the laundromat and mooching a full day off my friends (thank you guys). Drainage Pipe and plumbing in our manifold! This week was slower going, but progress is still being made. Trying to beat the clock of getting our laundry finished next week before our entire family runs out of clean underwear.
Ep. 4 Delta Membrane Time! And our Manifold 🪠

This week we finally put up our Delta membrane and pressure tested our manifold. I also have been shocked at how TH-cam has been a blessing in disguise. Some locals saw our channel and have offered to help us with the other half of our drainage system! Stay tuned in the next couple weeks where we get together with these incredible people. For now….one side is ALMOST complete. 🤞🏻
Ep. 3 We have shingles FINALLY…but our van went to van heaven

With our loose lead paint scraped off, and the days getting warmer, we were finally able to get some shingles up as well as our delta membrane. Our plumbing situation was still concerning so a manifold was built and we are | | much closer to having readily available laundry.

Attempting to put in an interior drainage system but a lot of prep work needs to happen first. We had to scrape hundreds of pounds of lead paint and deteriorated plaster before we could install our delta membrane.
