First Snowfall at Lake Laura (Bryce Resort), Basye, VA
Is it diverse out there or would someone of color not be comfortable? Living or visiting?
This area, like many rural agricultural areas, is less ethnically diverse than the US averages. Having said that, we've had wonderful visits by friends and family of color. Good times all around, whether snow tubing at Bryce Resort, picking up last-minute items at Walmart, taking a cave tour, hitting a local winery or brewery.
Best place to hike around there?
There's a trail around the lake (about 3 miles) that you can pick up at the dam or the boat launch on the Orkney Springs side. The Stairway to Heaven trail starts in Orkney Springs and climbs Great North Mountain. Storybook Trail is to the east near New Market and has sweeping views toward Skyline Drive. From Skyline Drive near Big Meadiw is Dark Hollow Falls, about a mile with great views of a small waterfall. Enjoy!

Thank you! It's Lake Laura. Lake Carroll is closer to Bryce Resort and hidden by a ridgeline so it's not visible in this video.
