I was quite young in 1967 (1+). but I remember a road trip down this highway and remember hearing "Light My Fire" by the Doors while we traveled through Prescott Valley. I believe the trip was done in my father's sky blue '58 Chevy Bel-Air. When I got into my 20s in the mid 80s, I did this trip a few times in a '76 Monte Carlo. I was used to such a twisty road by driving up and down the road on South Mountain in Phoenix.

If you turn left at the stop sign you will find FR300 on the right, which will take you to the top of the Mogollon Rim. About 1 mile further up the road there is a highway maintenance yard on the left. The forest road beyond that yard will take you to the best undeveloped camping in Arizona.

Our favorite camping while living in Sedona was in the forest off this highway. Can camp for days and never see another soul.

Miami, which is in Gila county, according to Dr. Jack Lesinger, in his book "Penturbia", refers to penturbia as a future 5th migration that will take place in the USA. He explains why people will choose to relocate, and live in areas like this, mainly because of the historical architecture, amongst other reasons.

Grew up here. Left in 1978 when we moved to San Manuel. They took out the stop light, or did I just miss it? I remember it was a big deal when the town got it's first stoplight...

I love this town, and its really bouncing back now. You should go back down sullivan and hit the Lyric Soda Fountain, the Miami Art Works gallery, and a new bar right between them, the 23 Skiddoo (to open soon). The rooming house over the Art Works is packed full of artists and dreamers with all sorts of projects in the works, they spill out everywhere. And if you come through on a second Saturday you'll catch the Open Mic Night - it attracts people from miles around. We have filmmakers, queer people, musicians, performance artists, and all sorts of other talented, fascinating characters building gardens, serving up ice cream, making musical instruments, filming horror flicks, engaging in civic activism, running auctions, and restoring old properties, to name but a few of the things going on here. At 4,000 feet, we are likely to be at least 15 degrees cooler than in the valley, too, so if you're heading east from Phoenix on the US 60, stop in Miami for some lunch and a downtown stroll this summer.
