Yeah, there is also confusion, but after this episode was already recorded, I found out what I need to do with the fast travel so the next one will go quick. Hopefully. Also, Squid-Faced Magic Bastard is my rightful clay.

Let's Play Eye of the Beholder Episode 16 - Sound Problems & "Puzzles"
มุมมอง 56 ปีที่แล้ว
This episode I definitely messed up the audio, while I can still be heard and understood most of the time, I don't think there is any game audio in the video and I'm too silent and sometimes my voice drops off and seems to have weird interruptions. I promise it will be fixed the next episode!

you’re not even good
didn't ask u did i :daBB:
i have made a severe, continuous lapse in my judgement
seems like you pay too much attention to your automap. Complaining about not picking up your spear in prev episode, now there are multiple lying there for you to take and stock up on.
I do take a spear after a while, don't worry.
Nicely done! I look forward to the inevitable replay that kills Xanathar the "right" way. ;D
You call it the "right" way, but is it the easier way? :P
Absolutely not. :p
Good riddance, midget fighter :P He's dead weight and just steals XP from the characters you'll take into the next games. In fact, having just seen these games completed with a party of only one, I find myself querying why anyone would bother with more than one in their party ^-^;
Welp. He is actually pretty useful as a fighter, I think.
Spiders are the bane of many games, but this one particular can screw you over pretty quick. You are correct about the animations. Once they start to play, you can still click your actions (attack, move) and they be processed once current animation will finish. Also, if you are not using empty hand for Taghor, a shield would be nice. Short sword in offhand is a better idea
For a long time in this LP, the animations were the biggest issue I had in the game, you'll see as you go through the other episodes.
'oh fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuuuuck you' not even close to get r*ped by the game yet :)
True enough, but it was too much for the time! :P
3:20 - Face tanking Be Quick or Be Dead. I see you also like to play dangerously! 12:35 - So Fun Facts About Stoneskin™: 1. It doesn't negate x damage like it does in new D&D. It negates x attacks. X is equal to the level of the caster who casts it. 2. It's permanent until it's done shielding against attacks. It persists through sleep. 3. It's OP as fuuuuuuuuuuck. 4. It got removed in the second and third games because of 3. 5. In addition to preventing attacks, it also prevents status effects that would trigger from being hit. Stoneskin = Mantis Immunity 19:27 - Mantises. Not even once. As you've noticed, resting cures paralysis. You actually only need to rest for 1 hour to cure it. 25:07 - Everyone who has played through this game has been here. Pure mantis rage.
I live on the edge. But yeah, I was very excited when I realized I had stoneskin for those very reason but it's nice to learn that it can also prevent status effects like that. Will definitely be useful to quell my mantis rage.
Handled those skeleton warriors like a boss. Well played!
Love the depth you put in your heroes backstory. You might get stuck with them for longer than expected (or just get them replaced with better ones as you go :) ). As for starting off with Lvl2-3 characters - it's just the game way of telling you, that it's not to be messed with at lvl 1. Other than that - I could NOT imagine an lvl 1/1/1 Fighter/cleric/mage Half-Elf combo. It's starting life wouldn't be more than 1 :)
Don't worry, I'd never replace them and I intend to keep them up during the sequel(s)! That's pretty true but then again, the character would probably get pretty good as they leveled up.
- 4:30 I was wondering how long that was going to take to happen. If you're throwing them at a group of enemies in front of you, a fireball won't damage your party. Hitting an adjacent wall with them will, as you've discovered. Once you get access to ice storm, the better version of fireball, you have to be careful because hitting enemies in front of you with it *will* hurt your party. - Stoneskin is the best spell in the game by far. It's literal god mode that lasts for a certain number of attacks. It gets removed in the sequels. If there is a secret past that wall at the very end, I'm not aware of it. Curious to see what it leads to, if anything!
Yeah, I'm not even certain if I'm going to use many of these offensive spells because it's kinda inconvenient since it's all real time and you need to do quite a few clicks while you could instead be running circles around the enemies instead. Maybe on the Xanathar or something, in combination with Stoneskin. And idk, on my map it is showing me like there is no wall at all, like it's just an open corridor so idk.
I'd say that's a fair way to approach things spell-wise. You really don't need them *much* in the first game. Fireballs can be useful because they'll damage an entire group of enemies at once, but that's about it. The second game has burning hands as an instant cast AoE in first level spell slots which is very useful. Lightning bolt is a life saver in the sequel as well. Overall, though, yeah, offensive magic is kind of a pain in the first game. Very strange about that wall. Very strange.
nope, there is nothing there. Must be a bug on the map or in the game, since it allows you to drop items there. Cluebook also shows wall. You did not mention a thing about other passable walls in this corridor, which means they are also not shown on the map. Those holes usually throw out darts or fireballs. If stepped on hidden plates on the passable walls, you would get hit by darts, thrown from exactly same holes as those.
- 21:20 "If they poison me I'm going to be pissed!" :D Not *quite*. Those would be rust monsters, they eat your armor. I think there are only one or two of them in the entire game and they aren't in the sequel. Just there as a 'screw you' to the player. - 27:10 "And poison!" Worse than poison! Paralysis! I'd recommend keeping a couple castings of Remove Paralysis prepared basically from now until you finish the game. The mantis men aren't the only enemies down here that'll paralyze you. You're making very good progress, I must say!
- The drow levels are probably the worst for teleporting shenanigans. Easily the hardest part of the game to get through without a map. - Nice job handling the skeletal warriors. Those guys are nasty customers. Just wait 'til the second game, assuming you decide to play it. ;) - I think your frustrations are fairly well warranted. The game's certainly got some of that old school jank and it can be frustrating. The worst is yet to come. :p
:D - "Did they just run off somewhere?" Maybe. Enemies do wander a bit. I'm also certain that if there are more than X enemies on a map that they start despawning after a while of not interacting with the party. Probably a good thing because of how monster spawning works in the first place. - Congrats on finding your first portal! You'll figure out how they work sooner or later. Be sure to hold onto all the stone items you find, they're basically keys to fast travel in the first two games. Once you figure out where they lead, portals make returning to get party members resurrected a lot less tedious than hiking up from the lower levels. - With old DOS games like this, there's absolutely no shame in save scumming. Especially when they throw encounters at you that you'll have next to no way of surviving unless you know they're coming. - Possible spoilers, but since you're probably a fair way past this point I think it's probably reasonable to mention that the kenku eggs are actually used for several level quests throughout the game. Trading them with the drow will keep you from completing the one on the kenku level, but I *think* the others will still work. - You are correct in assuming that your bypassing of the first encounter with drow was just bypassing that group, for the most part. I'd say that, in your case, paying them off was probably the right idea. That fight can be kind of rough if you don't know it's coming. There are a handful of wandering drow that you'll still have to fight.
Well, the next episode is the last one I've recorded so far, so about half an hour more than where this episode ends is where I'm at. And thanks for telling me about the portals. I'll make sure to hold onto it all.
Not too much to say for this episode, really. You're very much figuring things out on your own so I can't really give much advice for where you are in the game. That said: - The game's real-time. It just pauses when certain things happen, like spells. Mostly because it has to wait for animations to play more than anything. It's mostly a hardware consideration from what I understand.
Yeah, my question was more or a piss take rather than a genuine question, but I do make not of it only being due to spells in the next episode I assume. Actually, it's either the next episode or episode 11, which also happens to be the last episode in the current batch that I have recorded so far.
Those eggs are definitely worth collecting... and the reward is something that will be useful if you're brave enough to take these heroes into the third game :)
Too bad the Drow took my eggs.
28:56 "How did they get EXP?" I don't know. Maybe successfully dodging attacks is also worth EXP in this game?
Great job on your first boss battle, and with two fighters down no less! I thought that shadowy mage was going to kick your ass with his OP spells. That was some quick thinking and fast footwork!
10:55 "This is a bad idea, saving in such a state." And yet you did it anyway. (smh)
8:43 "Did I mention that I hate spiders?" Yes, and I think they may be taking offense to that. :)
3:07 "And it's like creepy, because it's silent... In this case, the silence is the creepy part." That's the one thing this game is missing, some good background music. Maybe you should just add your own! I can just imagine it now, searching for keys and hacking and slashing through enemies while Twilight sings about wrapping up Winter! :D
0:27 "I am save scumming after each fight with the spiders because I don't want to get poisoned. I don't care about, like, immersion..." When it comes to encounters with giant spiders, I'm not so sure an immersive experience would be a _good_ thing.
Man, those drow don't f@$% around! I had forgotten just how dangerous those things could be.
Most enemies are starting to get on my nerves tbh. In one of the future episode I rage over those Hellhound enemies. Not sure if in the next episode or one of the other ones, but you can check it out of yourself since the next episode has already been uploaded.
If you ever want to have anyone in the back rows help out in combat, you could equip someone with a bow and put arrows in his/her quiver. Don't forget about your throwing daggers as well.
Yeah, I know about the daggers and a bow but it's a bit of a pain having to collect all the stuff after a fight. Also, I think I gave up all or most of my daggers to one level quest due to my stupidity.
Also, I was derping out with Antellin, giving her that useless glowy thing instead of an actual weapon.
15:08 "I'm getting turned around constantly, and it's not like the game's fault anymore." There aren't too many games for which you'd have to clarify that statement. :)
14:12 "Imagine if I had accidentally pressed SAVE right there." Then I'd _imagine_ this would have been a very short LP.
2:34 "F@$%ing... where are these dwarves?" Dwarf: "You called?"
1:59 "I just haven't been in the mood to record lately, I don't know why." I could take a guess as to why. Spiders. Here's some advice on how to deal with those nasty critters: th-cam.com/video/Xgdw6TMhGkA/w-d-xo.html
Was someone vacuuming, or was that your computer desperately trying to stay below its melting point?
Probably the second one. I'm currently forced to record using my laptop's built in microphone so it automatically records the fan sounds and I can't really do anything about it right now due to my monetary situation. Apologies, but as soon as I'm able to buy myself a Desktop computer and proper microphone and such, I will.
Wow, it's been awhile! I had completely forgotten about this LP.
Yeah, I recorded a bunch of episodes a while back and then felt kinda lazy about editing them so I didn't until now. Expect more regular uploads again. Speaking of, I am uploading a new episode as I'm writing this comment!
29:29 "F@$% you guys." And then you did. =)
He deserved it. :P
23:24 "They gained experience by teleporting." Maybe that's how Twilight Sparkle got so strong. :)
Finally watching the series! Here's my criticism, not to be taken as offense. I only want you to improve. - 2 minutes of silence at the start, I'd suggest reading it out next time! - You ramble too much. I know talking is fun, but too much can be very dull and that's the reason this episode was 40 minutes long. This is something that should've taken 5 minutes. - You seem quite passionate about this game. I can't wait to continue! Anyways onto Episode 1!
Thanks for watching the video. - Well, 2 minutes of silence was because it was a cutscene that doesn't have voice acting in it but did have some sounds. The reason those sounds weren't very audible is because I fucked up the volume of the game so it's there, but on very low volume. The game audio vs my voice gets fixed from like Episode 2 or 3 onward, I think. - The length was purposeful, I wanted to talk about their backgrounds and I doubt I could have fit all of it into like 5 minutes without speaking crazy fast and skipping 90% of their backgrounds which would defeat the purpose of the video. Have fun with Episode 1!
ah, that explains the awkward silence lol well, fair enough
"I'm going to try to do an episode a level" *immediately splits level across multiple episodes*
operating word being "try"
Mmmhmmmm... you filthy casual millennial :P
- Get used to the 'bullshit.' As you surmise it's mostly there to pad out the game a bit. It gets, eh, 'creative' later in. The automapper will definitely help you out in the later levels. - There's no item degradation in the Eye of the Beholder games, thank Christ. There *are* enemies who will destroy your gear later in, though. :D - Your save at the 'Museum' was very, very wise. :p - There are NPCs with a little bit of dialogue. Nothing particularly meaty, though. Mostly just "oh, you're not killing us, do this thing for us instead" type stuff. They'll also resurrect your corpses. - So enemy AI in these games is pretty trash-tier. If you have a group of enemies hounding you, just get onto the other side of a door, close it, and they won't be able to open it to get to you. Not super useful in this game, because encounters are mostly manageable. It'll save your butt in the sequel, though. - 34 minutes in and you realize you're past the desired 30 minute runtime. Welcome back to LPing. :D - To this day, I can't stand the puzzle with the gems and the eyes. I'm still not 100% sure how the teleportation in that area works. I generally just randomly wander around in a circle there until I manage to find the right way to get all the eyes into all the sockets. You're basically done with the easy part of the game. From now on things stop playing nice. Good luck! :D
- There are enemies that straight up destroy my equipment? So, in that case I should keep a spare or two of any and all equipment I use just in case? - As I asked in the video, what is it a Museum of? Museum of Unnatural Monstrosities? Implying those lizard things and the enemies in full plate armor are some sort of unnatural monstrosities. - I guess there's more to this game than to Fallout 76, after all, if there are at least some NPCs :P - The game was just so fun I lost track of time, ma! :P - That puzzle wasn't very bad with the automapper because it tells you exactly where you are. It basically teleports you to the other side of the room or something. I can imagine it being painful without an automapper, though. As if the game was easy so far! Did you miss the part where I got destroyed by two Lizard things in the first quarter of the video?! :P
- I wouldn't say you need duplicates of all your useful gear. If I recall correctly they just eat armor. There are only two or three of the things in the game, so it's not *too* bad. Mostly. You'll bump into them once you get to the levels with the black walls. - The Museum is a room full of monsters that don't do anything until you try to loot the goodies lying around. Then they all go hostile and try to murder your ass. :D You're definitely still in the easy parts. Now that you're down to the Dwarven section of the dungeon (the white-walled areas) things are going to get shitty monster-wise. Have fuuuuun~. :p
- Now why would a rock float on top of a pit? Hmmmmmm... - For the sling you put the sling in one hand and a rock in the other. Fill your belt with rocks and it'll auto-reload. There's no way to store thrown projectiles like arrows, sadly. - You're correct that there's no way to check equipment stats in game. - Stone objects like the dagger you found are used as a kind of key later in the game. - Your thief can use that bow, I believe. Try switching the hand he has it in. The 'top' hand is a given character's primary hand. - You definitely don't need to hold onto multiple copies of gear that you don't plan on using. There are no shops in this game or the sequels. The best you're getting out of carrying random gear is to use it for weighing down pressure plates. - "Why am I missing so much!?" And you wanted to start with a party of 1st-level characters. :p - "Failed lock pick attempt." Welcome to why thieves are essentially useless in these games. You can't pick *any* important locks. That said, yes, you can generally keep trying until you succeed. Each time you use your picks, though, there's a very slim chance that they'll break and be lost permanently.
Floating rocks are common in *my* fantasy setting, thankyouverymuch! I think I figured out the slings and bows in the next episode, but I've already recorded it and it's just waiting to get rendered and uploaded, which means I don't get to use your tips in it. But I will take not of them from the next episode onwards. Oh well, I guess I at least still have another bag to dump shit in, when it comes to my thief character :D
- Just a side note for slings - not only it loads up rocks from toolbelt but ALSO takes it directly from the backpack! nifty thing I found during my gameplay that didn;t know about before. - missing a lot - psst, clerics can cast buff magic such as bless. It may help out - stone items are used on portals for teleportation purposes. Those portals have 8 item-like plates. You need to use the one that is missing from it. - attack lag that you experienced at the start - that comes from enemy animation stops other actions. Even if you click during that time, all of those hits will be registered once enemy finishes his/their animation
32:30 - Not sure if there was a thing on the wall to the left, but this kind of door allows projectiles to fly through them - perhaps there is a pressure plate on the other side? :)
If I can figure out the fast travel in the next episode or two, I may even get back to the second level and check it out! :D
3:35 "Drogond had gained a level of experience from taking food." I wish it worked like that in real life!
Getting fatter = Leveling Up
:D - You can put arrows into the quivers in your characters' inventories. The quiver is the slot with the number on it above your body armor. Pretty handy for saving inventory space. - Speaking of stabbing things, you can dual-wield in this with melee weapons (and thrown weapons if that's your bag). It might be worth throwing your thief's sword into your fighter's off-hand if you don't mind sacrificing some of his defensive ability for more killing potential. - Get used to fake walls. There are a *lot* of them. I fully expect there to be rage once you get down to the spider-filled levels. - "The dagger fits." Welcome to finding your first 'level quest' in Eye of the Beholder. Each level of the dungeon has one and you get bonus XP and (typically) powerful gear for figuring them out. A few of the best weapons in the entire series are found as rewards for level quests in this game. - 27:50 i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/591/928/94f.png Still making decent progress, all things considered. You've just got to start thinking with 'oldschool bullshit' in mind. I'd say leave the derping in, it adds to the experience, I think. It's always nice to see someone tackle these games blindly.
I'll try the thing with arrows in the next episode, thanks for letting me know! I thought that was for the arrows in the test episode and the previous one but I just completely forgot about it this one for some reason. I'll also think about equipping my fighter with the other sword. The fake walls aren't a big deal, to be honest, so long as they all have some sign like those that have those "runes" on them or if they're in inconvenient to miss places like the ones in the "loop room". Thanks for letting me know about the level quests, I hope I didn't miss any in this episode. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself when I figured it out! :P Yeah, I guess so. I wonder if all of the levels will be pretty short (one or two videos in total) with the use of automapper since it makes some things that you, I imagine, had to spend a while figuring out, a breeze basically, because I can just look at the map. Like, for example, turning me around in that junction would have probably been harder to deal with if I didn't have the equivalent of minimap next to the game. And combat is pretty quick, plus, I had only one encounter this whole episode, so...
Oh yeah, it took me quite awhile to figure out that the game was turning me around. I never looked at the compass, so my only hint was the fact that the map I was drawing for myself ended up looking perfectly symmetrical, and the ladders showing on each side of my map ended up taking me to the exact same places.
Hahaha, that must have been so frustrating at the time, but to me it just sounds hilarious.
I agree with GHost here. Decent progress. Currently fake walls are marked but that will soon change
You think that was time wasting? Should try playing the Shadowgate Remake. Maybe not Moonlogic worthy time waster, but you do have to click things on things a little too much for my liking.
Well, but that is a legit point'n'click adventurer, so it's to be expected, especially if it's a remake of an older point'n'click.
25:33 "I don't like being... eaten." I wonder if D&D started the whole vore fetish thing.
Hmm...?
0:47 "Just so you know, I have decided to use the All Seeing Eye..." Did Star Butterfly teach you that one?
Is that an MLP thing? I'm still stuck on season 2 for reactions and don't wanna watch in my own time because I still plan to return to reacting at some point in the future. Unless Star Butterfly was introduced during s1 or something? I'd need to re-watch every episode on my own to remember everything because I have practically forgotten most of the stuff from what I've watched due to how long it's been since I've seen it.
Nope, nothing pony related here. Star Butterfly is the lead character of another cartoon series, Star Vs. the Forces of Evil. One of the spells she learns during the show is called The All-Seeing Eye.
As per protocol, commentary on your commentary: - Dunno if you figured it out, but you can disable the health bars in the UI and instead have it display their actual HP values instead. Also, don't worry about not talking. You don't always have to fill dead air with speech. It can be okay to be quiet. - Ha! "12 HP WAS A MISTAKE!" - The difference between rations/iron rations is that normal rations are your home packed meals kept in a sack or whatever while iron rations are kept in iron tins so they keep forever. - In game mechanic terms, iron rations fill up your food bar more. Your cleric will be able to cast Create Food soon-ish, which will make carrying rations a waste of inventory space. - For your mage, you can put daggers into the three belt slots to have them automatically fill back into her hand when you decide to start throwing them.
Does the mage throw daggers automatically by just clicking them to attack, or do you have to choose them from inventory and click on the enemy with them? It's been so long since I've played that I can't remember how throwing works in this game.
It's all done manually. He has to put the dagger in his mage's hand and then click on it to make the mage throw it. You have to do this with each piece of thrown ammo. You can put three things in a character's belt slot and they'll automatically 'reload' with them, but that's it. Ranged combat was definitely a bit of a sore point with these old dungeon crawlers.
Does it matter which hand? Are characters ambidextrous when it comes to throwing weapons?
It doesn't matter which hand, no. You could actually have a thrown weapon in either hand if you wanted. There are no penalties for doing so that I'm aware of.
Not bad! Some commentary: - Game sound's definitely low. Props for bravery in using the PC Speaker sound effects. - Your voice volume is good. - Video quality is good as well. - I definitely appreciate the depth you went into for character generation. It's definitely more than most people put into something like this and it's refreshing to see. Running with a 12 HP fighter is pretty brave, but he should bulk up pretty quickly with levels. - Props for putting editing in to skip out on the boring bits of character generation. :D Definitely looking forward to seeing actual gameplay.
Thanks! I should be putting it (new episode) out some time soon. Not that I have anything recorded yet, but I should, soon enough. Just gotta figure out a nice schedule for everything. :D
Wow, a game that I've actually played growing up! This is quite the interesting surprise.
Heh, that's cool. Hope you have fun. But of, course, as I said in the description, you don't have to watch this one since the actual dungeon crawling only starts next episode, this is just 40 minutes dedicated to me making the party. If you do wanna get to know my characters, hope you have fun! :)
Super video :-)
It is wonderful! :*
Great video :-)
First :-)
I feel terrible saying this because I used to love Sim City 2000 so much, but I find it practically unplayable these days. The UI is just so ancient.
+British Gamer For what it's worth, I enjoyed my time with it. The hardest thing for me to get used to was to actually use the toolbar at the top to play the game, which is what you're referring to, I guess. But I found it pretty cool for a little while at least. Sorry for the late response! :D
