Short session Riverside in Dundee
มุมมอง 250ปีที่แล้ว
As my son was having academy training in the Dundee International sports complex, instead of sitting in the car, I thought better off having a short 2.5 hour fishing session. Decided to fish opposite Tesco as parking is unlimited on Sundays. Dug some rag and lug the day before. Normally you will not blank there. Mananged to catch the smallest dab (PB) and lost a big flounder in the weed. Overal...

Fishing Pettycur pier on a glorius afternoon

Relaxing session at Pettycur pier. Fished 2 rods, 1 with a pulley panel and 1 2 hook padernoster boom rig. Baits I had frechly dug rag worms with a few fresh lug, mackerel tipped with squid. Managed to catch a scorpion fish on the pulley penel. Glorious sunshine with warmish temperature.
First session of 2023 at Kirkcaldy - flounder saved the blank
มุมมอง 152ปีที่แล้ว
My first session of 2023. Decided to go to Kirkcaldy beach as the wind was predicted from the south, in the hope to have some good waves building, on arrival it was mainly calm with a little bit more wind later in the session. Enjoyable session with the flounder saving the blank again.
Last session of the year at Kinghorn by the harbour
มุมมอง 187ปีที่แล้ว
Took the opportunity of a weather break to have a last session for this year at Kinghorn by the harbour. Target was Dab, but I caught a flounder, of course all fish are welcome. Rig I used was a 2 hook padernoster boom rig with size 1 long shank hooks baited with mackerel and tipped with squid. Wish you and your loved ones a Happy New Year 2023
Update on Lion's Mane project - growing in a bucket with lime pasterized wood shavings
มุมมอง 1.5Kปีที่แล้ว
Update on Lion's Mane Project. It's been 2 weeks since I colonised the wood shavings in pasteurized lime solution (just under 12ph). I checked it after a week and saw a couple of fluff balls, hence I left it another week to see on how it will go. As you can see, the mould has taken over the substrate, the Lion's Mane is to slow to out colonise the mould. I have the resut and answer what I seeked.
New Lion's mane Project - growing on lime pasteurised substrate in a bucket

New Lion's mane project - trying to use lime pasteurised substrate and growing in a bucket. The lime bath I used had a reading of just under 12ph. Substrate is ash shavings Strain used: Lion's Mane commercial Main objective is to see if the spawn will run, if it doesn't I will do another bucket with a PH of just over 10. If the spawn is running, I will try to fruit it. As energy is skyrocketing...

Quick update on my joint project with my son - growing oyster mushrooms in a bucket with lime pasteurisation, using 2 strains of mushroom grain spawn, white elm and blue/grey hybrid. The pinning has started and looking healthy, emerging out of a few holes. At the moment it looks like a success, now we have to wait what colour the mushrooms are going to be, I think dark. Went first thing in the morning to dig some lug worms. After that went to fish a new mark for me, West Wemyss pier. S/E light wind with a rising tide. Lions Mane is pretty easy to grow. From my own experience, it looks like it's missing fresh air/ oxygen when it grows spongy like that. Keep it up, though!!

Hi great vid, But what do you mean with "lime"? And how do you pasteurize your substrate?

    • @scotlandforagingandfishing
      @scotlandforagingandfishing 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@argyrodendron64 lime is there to raise the ph to just over 12, this will pasteurise your substrate. Oyster mushrooms can handle that ph with no issues.

@@scotlandforagingandfishing Thank you, Im trying to get portobellos to spawn for about a year now, no-one gives straight up instructions that work, So I've finally arrived at pasturized wheat straw, horse dung mixed with a ratio to spawn it, I've got it spawning now, but its sooo slow I think the straw may have been too wet but its moving, its a big cake. I started a second bag but instead o pasteurizing with hot water I tried the hydrated lime bath and hung it in onion bags to drip dry for a few hours mixed the grain spawn in I developed and its only been 2 days not seeing any spawning. Would you know are portobellos adverse to the lime bath am I better off sticking with the hot water method? I used the hyradted lime for a couple of buckets I just made using wheat straw and Blue Oyster spawn. Tks.🍄🍄🍄🍄 🍄

As a youngster my Dad would drive Mum and me from Kirriemuir to Arbroath and buy Smokies from the little terraced houses by the quay where they’d smoked the fish in their own smokehouses ‘out the back’. My treat on the drive home was to eat a Smokie straight out of the paper (no vacuum packed fish in the ‘50s 😂) with my fingers ~ I will never forget the delicious smell then the taste and the texture of the fish … ❤️. I’ve lived in France for the past 22 years and, thanks to B*ex*t (😖) the cost of delivery + customs duty & paperwork it’s prohibitive to get them delivered from Arbroath 😢.
