Scotland Mushroom Foraging and Fishing
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 30 เม.ย. 2020
This channel's main aim is for people to get out into the countryside or seaside and to enjoy what nature has to offer. The main content of the videos will be about foraging for wild fungus and some fishing activities, not as a sport but for the table, I want to share my knowledge that I have gained over the years with others. To inspire the whole family to get active and maybe taking on some foraging or fishing activities.

Short session Riverside in Dundee
มุมมอง 250ปีที่แล้ว
As my son was having academy training in the Dundee International sports complex, instead of sitting in the car, I thought better off having a short 2.5 hour fishing session. Decided to fish opposite Tesco as parking is unlimited on Sundays. Dug some rag and lug the day before. Normally you will not blank there. Mananged to catch the smallest dab (PB) and lost a big flounder in the weed. Overal...
Fishing Whitehaven West Pier
มุมมอง 641ปีที่แล้ว
Short 2 hour session at Whitehaven West pier as we planned to stay in Cockermouth. Target was a dog fish as we don't get them in fife where I live. Managed to get 1 in the last moments before I had to leave.
Fishing Pettycur pier on a glorius afternoon
มุมมอง 346ปีที่แล้ว
Relaxing session at Pettycur pier. Fished 2 rods, 1 with a pulley panel and 1 2 hook padernoster boom rig. Baits I had frechly dug rag worms with a few fresh lug, mackerel tipped with squid. Managed to catch a scorpion fish on the pulley penel. Glorious sunshine with warmish temperature.
First session of 2023 at Kirkcaldy - flounder saved the blank
มุมมอง 152ปีที่แล้ว
My first session of 2023. Decided to go to Kirkcaldy beach as the wind was predicted from the south, in the hope to have some good waves building, on arrival it was mainly calm with a little bit more wind later in the session. Enjoyable session with the flounder saving the blank again.
Last session of the year at Kinghorn by the harbour
มุมมอง 187ปีที่แล้ว
Took the opportunity of a weather break to have a last session for this year at Kinghorn by the harbour. Target was Dab, but I caught a flounder, of course all fish are welcome. Rig I used was a 2 hook padernoster boom rig with size 1 long shank hooks baited with mackerel and tipped with squid. Wish you and your loved ones a Happy New Year 2023
Update on Lion's Mane project - growing in a bucket with lime pasterized wood shavings
มุมมอง 1.5Kปีที่แล้ว
Update on Lion's Mane Project. It's been 2 weeks since I colonised the wood shavings in pasteurized lime solution (just under 12ph). I checked it after a week and saw a couple of fluff balls, hence I left it another week to see on how it will go. As you can see, the mould has taken over the substrate, the Lion's Mane is to slow to out colonise the mould. I have the resut and answer what I seeked.
New Lion's mane Project - growing on lime pasteurised substrate in a bucket
มุมมอง 1.8Kปีที่แล้ว
New Lion's mane project - trying to use lime pasteurised substrate and growing in a bucket. The lime bath I used had a reading of just under 12ph. Substrate is ash shavings Strain used: Lion's Mane commercial Main objective is to see if the spawn will run, if it doesn't I will do another bucket with a PH of just over 10. If the spawn is running, I will try to fruit it. As energy is skyrocketing...

Home growing Oyster mushrooms in a bucket project - pinning
มุมมอง 972 ปีที่แล้ว
Quick update on my joint project with my son - growing oyster mushrooms in a bucket with lime pasteurisation, using 2 strains of mushroom grain spawn, white elm and blue/grey hybrid. The pinning has started and looking healthy, emerging out of a few holes. At the moment it looks like a success, now we have to wait what colour the mushrooms are going to be, I think dark. Stay tuned for the final...

Fishing West Wemyss pier, another blank
มุมมอง 4332 ปีที่แล้ว
Went first thing in the morning to dig some lug worms. After that went to fish a new mark for me, West Wemyss pier. S/E light wind with a rising tide. Tried various baits, not a single knock, crab, crab and more crab, baits stripped after 10 mins. Managed a few hours, enjoyable session, rain was holding off.

Good man, what are blueies? I think that wood place behind you is Scott Timber, they make pallets. Are codling a cross between cod and ling? Keep up the good work and best regards. 🙃
Awesome video tks buddy
@@surenbhola107 thank you.
Lions Mane is pretty easy to grow. From my own experience, it looks like it's missing fresh air/ oxygen when it grows spongy like that. Keep it up, though!!
Hi great vid, But what do you mean with "lime"? And how do you pasteurize your substrate?
@argyrodendron64 lime is there to raise the ph to just over 12, this will pasteurise your substrate. Oyster mushrooms can handle that ph with no issues.
Lime the citrus fruit?! How much do you put in there? And you don't use any heat?@@scotlandforagingandfishing
@@argyrodendron64 you will find your answer here. th-cam.com/video/1xHD8XHcYxY/w-d-xo.html
Ive heard wood shavings cause contamination often, have you used wheat straw for the bucket?
I used ash shavings, it works, you also can use shredded wheat straw. With oyster mushrooms, contamination is not much of an issue as it is a very fast colonizer.
@@scotlandforagingandfishing Thank you, Im trying to get portobellos to spawn for about a year now, no-one gives straight up instructions that work, So I've finally arrived at pasturized wheat straw, horse dung mixed with a ratio to spawn it, I've got it spawning now, but its sooo slow I think the straw may have been too wet but its moving, its a big cake. I started a second bag but instead o pasteurizing with hot water I tried the hydrated lime bath and hung it in onion bags to drip dry for a few hours mixed the grain spawn in I developed and its only been 2 days not seeing any spawning. Would you know are portobellos adverse to the lime bath am I better off sticking with the hot water method? I used the hyradted lime for a couple of buckets I just made using wheat straw and Blue Oyster spawn. Tks.🍄🍄🍄🍄 🍄
@@Mushlove1213 Lime works really only with Oyster mushrooms, I done an experiment wih the Lions mane and it failed. For Portobellos I would use sterilised hardwood pellets.
Would've been great to state your initial amount of straw, H20 (hot/cold), lime and soak time. How did you check the pH, paper or meter? 😊
It was cold water and I used a meter. Thanks for asking.
Can i use artificial bait?
Hi, Thank you for reaching out. I would not recommend using artificial bait with that kind of setup. All the best.
Hi i lived in crossgates. Can we use artificial bait for fishing mackarel in Burntisland? Because i have no idea where i can get live worm for bait. Thanks
Yes, for mackeral artificial bait, like lures or spinners will work. Thank you for contacting me.
I just recently moved to Dundee and tried fishing for flatfish at Riverside but couldn't catch anything. I used frozen shrimp, does that even work or should I go with worms instead?
Hi, Never tried shrimps there, would try with worms, mackeral, squid. Good luck.
You have a great channel dude keep the videos coming
Thank you
I ate Arbroath Smokies cooked in cream in Merchant City Glasgow. Never forgotten it. 😋
Fantastic, good on you. Thank you for letting me know.🥰
How long does the lotion keep for ?
Thank you for your comment. About 6 month.
Would I catch fish spinning in this spot in winter
Would using aluminium foil as a lure catch fish in winter?
Never tried it, but that doesn't mean it won't work. Best way to find out is to try it.
Where is best spot to lure fish in Fife now?
@@bibcay2622 You have to go further north and seek deep gullies, use I-boating to find them.
@@scotlandforagingandfishing how deep is deep enough?
@@bibcay2622 I guess about 10 feet.
Where is best place to fish in Fife using a lure
Depends if you want to go summer or winter lure fishing. Summer produces mackeral on most locations around fife. for winter lure fishing you most likely need to go further north find deep rock arks. I use I-boating for depth.
I want to winter would it be good in a harbour?
@@bibcay2622 no, you need to find deep rock marks, near Abroath or so.
Can I do lure fishing at Burntisland in winter now?
Not sure, but there is no more public access to the pier. you could try the break waters.
what or where is the break waters ?
@@bibcay2622 Is behind by the pallet factory, near the swimming pool.

Had to subscribe, i haven’t fished since about 1999 when I lived at the bottom of the UK now living up in Scotland and desperately wanting to start beach fishing again 👍👍

why take so long to get into the reason for ur video. get to the point!
when are u going this year? been waiting long for your video. can i go together?
Thank you for asking. We need some wet weather coming. I let you know.
Great video, thanks for making 👍
You're very welcome, thank you.
Planning to get there tomorrow with my son..
Fantastic, good luck.
This is exactly what I was looking for thank you so much
Fantastic that this video helped you. There is a new approach to growing lion's mane in a bucket, will do a video on it.
Its a pity. I tried this method for oysters and straw and works well. After two weeks almost full colonized. I also know person who use fuel pellets to lions mane and he pasterize by hot water. He almost has no contamination.
Hi, thanks for your comment. Fuel pellets is the way to with hot water pasteurisation. Here is a link to a video that I will try. th-cam.com/video/XnBMkPzUOu8/w-d-xo.html, thanks for watching.
Hi Udo. Good to see you out. Lot of crabs there , a bit of bait elastic helps.
Yes, def. lots of crab activity on the turn of the tide. Been using bait elastic in the end.
Good to see you back fishing again.👍🏻
Thanks for watching, yes try to keep it up for frequently, all the best.

Thank you for sharing, I love Arbroath Smokies especially straight out of the smoker, nothing like 'em ❤
Thank you for your comment and watching.
As a youngster my Dad would drive Mum and me from Kirriemuir to Arbroath and buy Smokies from the little terraced houses by the quay where they’d smoked the fish in their own smokehouses ‘out the back’. My treat on the drive home was to eat a Smokie straight out of the paper (no vacuum packed fish in the ‘50s 😂) with my fingers ~ I will never forget the delicious smell then the taste and the texture of the fish … ❤️. I’ve lived in France for the past 22 years and, thanks to B*ex*t (😖) the cost of delivery + customs duty & paperwork it’s prohibitive to get them delivered from Arbroath 😢. Never mind, I still have the memory 😘
Clay pots and wooden spoons
Hello, thanks for sharing this. However, I've been looking for ways to extract the goodness from chaga without alcohol. I've come across fermentation and glycerin. But I couldn't find any more information online on fermentation. Could you share anything you might know on this? Thanks a lot)
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. I don't have experience with fermentation, but done some blueberry with glycerin with great success. The only thing is with glycerin, the extraction will be not as potent as with alcohol. Keep me posted on how you get on.
Hi,can u pls lemme know the trusted sites to buy chaga mushroom
Not much chance to get good quality at the moment, as the door to Russia is closed at the moment.

Happy new year to you, watch all your fishing videos and they are great
Thank you very much, Happy New Year to you and your loved ones.
When eating them raw straight from the tree, do you eat the seeds inside them, or should I spit them out? Also would you know roughly how many is it safe to eat in a day/week?
The seeds are highly priced and not poisonous, i don't usually eat the berries straight from the tree "pulling too many faces", lol, too sour. Do as you wish, everything on the plant is edible. Happy New Year and thanks for watching.

I think the amount of sugar you need would out way the benefit
A fair question, you don't need that much sugar, as it is concentrated juice, you only need a ratio of 1 to 4 with water to have a fantastic drink. You also can substitute sugar with a natural sweetener.
