The tent on my boat #Reinell 2250 got quite molded inside. Not a pretty picture. Not good for health. This is a second time already I am fighting #mold on Big Mamma's tent. As conditions for it to grow there are quite favorable mold keeps coming up. So cleaning is not permanent and needs to be repeated from time to time

Last summer I didn't use my small boat. But it's nice to have quick journeys with it when the weather is fine. So I had to do some spring maintenance to get it ready for the water. Praėjusią vasarą taip ir neišplaukiau su mažuoju laivu. Bet su juo irgi smagu, kai geras oras. Taigi pasiruošiau nuotykiams ant vandens.

    Question. How do you fill the gear oil? You removed the very top (oil) plug and the very bottom… do I remove the second plug from the bottom and fill from the oil hole until it comes out that second hole from the bottom? Please let me know, thanks

    • @Dasiukas
      @Dasiukas 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for watching. I filled through the very top hole (as I had no oil pump) and that is not so very correct way to fill oil. Usually you fill through the bottom drain hole using an oil pump untill the oil starts flowing from the upper (very top) hole. Then you plug the upper hole and after that disconnect your oil pump and close the bottom hole with the plug also.

      @@johnwilliams7269 So... Housing with bearing and with seal (mine was without o-ring). This complete part No. is 56110-98502-02M. I was lucky to find it for $28.60 but the total price with shipping and all the fees was about $53. That small part lost by me and by you too is (as specified in the catalog Fig 17, ref. No. 16) a PIN, push. It has a part No. 57632-98500. It is the simplest part in the whole outboard 😀. I had already made that part completely from scratch, but then I found it inside the gear case. It is not very precise. Just use a part of a drill bit of the corresponding diameter. Cut off a piece from the shank the same length as diameter. Make sure that cut off end is clean and perpendicular (you can put it in to the drill and sand the end while spinning). The spring will compensate an inaccuracy. If you give me your email, I could send you the part catalogue. But I just searched a little and found it here: www.brownspoint.com/pdf/DT5(83).pdf That one is for 1983 model. I love that when the gasket slipped, you said "ship" heh heh can swear in english! Funny the things I take for granted in Idaho. Can get those plastic gaskets for the oil change in a day, the pump to put in from the bottom bolt at the local auto, and the seals (with stainless springs) in a few days. You have Amazon? Does shipping take a long time, or is it expensive? But, it is wonderful watching you improvise, on something I kind of take for granted. Now, I never thought a little 5hp would push your big boat. And, I have several small outboards (3, 5, 8, 9.9 15 hp). And, I've had problems on the lake several times, and had to have a nice stranger tow me back to a dock. So, maybe I'll throw a 5hp somewhere in the boat, and put it on if times get tough. I don't have a mount though, and would have to rig something on one of the ladders.

    • @Dasiukas
      @Dasiukas 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your comment. Yes, those propane bottle gaskets are of good material but too big. I could get proper gaskets here locally from an on line store. But you know... You are working on something and don't want to wait for a few days to get a "shippy" part worth a few cents. Amazon is a world wide but I use it rarely as shipping takes too long (depends of where to ship from of course). If to ship from USA it takes from about 2 weeks to 2 months (that's not by Amazon but generally speaking). It is difficult to find American parts here. But... even though Suzuki is made in Japan, buying a bearing from the US was the cheapest. About a small outboard on my big boat. It could be too small in tough conditions. But generally it push my boat at a speed like you paddle a dinghy. Wow! You've got a bunch of outboards! And yes, you can get help from a nice stranger if you are not alone in that part of a lake. And yes, now are the times of civilization. You can just use your mobile phone and call for help. That small Suzuki backup outboard haven't been started since that maintenance time (for 1.5 year already). May be I should check it if it still runs in spring. I know that my English is not perfect and that I lack words. I like that you understand my made up words. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    • @bennyblanko3
      @bennyblanko3 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! And, your English is great! Yes, I went from no outboards to a bunch, because my friend inherited a 12' aluminum boat, and his didn't run properly. They don't cost much over here, maybe $200, which is almost the cost of one part ... so I accidentally started collecting a few, as they pop up. I have 2 Yamaha 8 hp, one 2 stroke, one 4 stroke, and they are real nice and quiet and run great, but cost a little more than the cheap ones (mostly Johnson/Evenrude which are very common around my home).@@Dasiukas

    I think we must get more snow in Idaho mountains. I build a whole plywood cover, with a 2x6 ridge at the back part of the boat, and a sloping 2x4 hip at the front, and plywood covering everything (4' wide x 4' pieces screwed to the ridge) and triangle pieces in the front. Then, I tarp over everything, and screw a few 2' square plywood over the tarp to the plywood below to hold it down (high winds sometimes) and use a bunch of ropes that goes around the whole contraption. Takes me about 3-4 hours to construct, usually when it is already snowing ... heh heh. I was going to tell you to put your outdrive all the way down, but then you already know that, and your bumper even comes off. I left mine tilted a little, and it froze and broke the impeller when the little bit of water froze in there. I use that same cover for my summer cover, to keep any rain and dirt out of the back of the boat. They usually last about 5 years before getting too thin, and ripping. I don't tighten them as much as you, as they are not really strong, especially after being in the sun a long time. But, in the winter, I build a plywood cover, so the windshield doesn't break from all the snow (I've had the whole boat with the plywood roof, and sitting on the trailer covered with the top of the plywood 5' below the top of the snow. You can just walk right across the snow, over the top of the boat, and then if you want, onto the roof beyond, which is 12' off the ground. I actually changed where I leave it now, so it is more windy and in the sun, and the snow doesn't build up that much anymore. Thanks for the video, and have a great winter!

    • @Dasiukas
      @Dasiukas 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow! Thanks for the detailed description. Your design is much more robust! Why not build a full shed for the boat and trailer? That's my dream. • @bennyblanko3
      @bennyblanko3 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, that is what I need. A shed/barn to put the boat in, during the winter, so I can make it perfect when the weather gets warmer. I personally don't have enough property for that, and I'm getting older too (60 years old). My friend who I go boating with (where I leave my boat now) lives in the country on 40 acres, but just got himself a new old boat (boston whaler 14') and put that into a barn. I'm going to see how the boat fares this winter. Good luck to you, and I enjoy all your videos!@@Dasiukas

      Oh, and I took the out drive off, and put it in my garage for some work. So, I'll probably be referring back to your previous videos. I want to change the impeller, and also take the gearing out of my old drive and put it in my "newer" one, and maybe change the prop. too, as the gearing is too low for my V8 boat (very similar to your motor).

      Light shed is not a big deal to build but yes, it needs some space. My first boat was (is) also 14'. There are some videos about it in my cannel too. It's like a wasp if compared to my bigger boat (last one could be considered as a May bug :) ) Good luck with your repair! It's nice when you have enough time in winter and don't need to be hurry. There is a gasket for the cover plate there. It’s a 2 piece o ring and a shim type gasket

    • @Dasiukas
      @Dasiukas 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your notice. I found no gasket here originally. So I didn't use any gasket or shim here as internal parts do not interfere and are moving freely. There is still some leak through the seal after the repair though.

      That is so called OMC electric shift. Was produced till 1976 ( or 1977). later was different lower unit with hydro mechanical shift. What are you interested in?

    Ohhh, you should NEVER press on the inner ring on the bearing when pressing in a new one, as you put a lot of force on the bearing itself and will not last long after that. The outer steel ring should take the force when pressing it in. At least it looks like you are pressing on the inner part of the bearing.

      @Dasiukas ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your notice. I’ve been using the old bearing to push the new one further on. Pushing the outer ring. Some force could go to the inner too though. Anyway that wheel is okay for the second season already

    You are awesome! I would have left it with the toggle ... heh heh. I predict the new switches to last exactly the same time as my new rice cooker, which has similar switches. About 7 years ... but you can easily replace them if they go bad, or the contacts get coroded. Have a great summer, and nice to see your boat in the water. I haven't picked mine up yet. Need to put in a new impeller (the electric shift out drive, just like yours, is in my garage at the moment - but I store my boat at my friend's house). Lot's of projects, and it is almost July, and it snowed yesterday and the day before ... so, hopefully I get to it this week.

    • @Dasiukas
      @Dasiukas ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! One of the cons of those switches is they are not water resistant at all. On the other hand there should be no water in that place 😉. Wow! You had snow?!!! What part of the world do you live in? Hurry up with the inpeller! I assume your summers are short…

      @@Dasiukas Yeah, I'm always running behind, and summers are short up here (mountains of central Idaho, USA McCall). We have a saying up here. What does it mean when the lake melts? 2 weeks to winter ... heh heh ... Thanks again, and happy boating. I'm going to do the impeller right now!
