Habeas Corpus (1928) | Laurel & Hardy: Year Two - Newly Restored Clip [HD]
AVAILABLE ON BLU-RAY AT www.flickeralley.com/

Facebook - FlickerAlley/
Following their initial pairing in early 1927, Laurel and Hardy ended their first year on top. Their success moving into 1928 galvanized the efforts of everyone at Hal Roach Studios (including famed director Leo McCarey), who proudly upped their game in support of the winning comedy duo. Whether wreaking accidental havoc as a two-man band, doing battle against one another as millionaire and butler, or even becoming grave robbers for a mad scientist, Laurel and Hardy prove in their second year that they have what it takes to not only win over audiences in the twilight of the silent era, but generate enough momentum to make a successful transition to “talkies” in 1929.
Although their names are synonymous with the very idea of comedy, few of the original negatives for Laurel and Hardy’s early silent work survive, elements only available from scattered sources throughout the world, often in substantially less than pristine shape. It took the team at Blackhawk Films four years to gather all surviving film elements, to meticulously compare them shot by shot, and to complete the best digital restorations possible. Today, these beloved shorts look as new as they did nearly a century ago.
Featuring all new restorations sourced from best available materials contributed by archives and collectors around the world restored by Blackhawk Films® and FPA Classics, this comprehensive deluxe Blu-ray 2-Disc collection features their ten 1928 films as a team and additional films from the Hal Roach Studios that showcase their final solo short film appearances, as well as the shift from silent films to films featuring music and synchronized sound effects.

A good one indeed, but again not that "lost masterpiece" a few sites are claiming (that German one "Der Film Noir" give it 5/5, for example). The problem starts with the fact that it is a 2-fer. Two movies in one and that at convenient 84 minutes (I like "short" ones that go to the point: a good 90 minutes thrill ride is always a pleasure). But you can´t fully develop the potential of a story in just 40 minutes. The first one starts really really well and both have lotta atmospehere, great cinematography, also the score and the acting is pretty up there (IMHO), but the first one lacks a bit, because I´d REALLY wanna know what the sisters troubles were. So the fact that - SPOILER - he shot the wrong guy and it´s never explained why and so on makes this look a bit like a "cheap twist". Would this not be a short (also the Woolrich story that´s the source), the story could well go on and the brother could find out what is behing all what´s been done to his sis. I give this 6/10. The second one is better: a possessive mom considers her hubby to be rather/better dead than "not hers" (a look into the past) and also has those very same feelings about her no-good son, who makes a short stop at her house to recover from a not-gone-well robbery. Same production values, but a more satisfying ending. I rate this 7/10. It was well worth recovering them from oblivion and I am glad I saw them. But I would not put them up there with the best. Far from. Certainly above average and well made, but no masterpieces. I´d give it, the movie, on a scale of 0 to 5, a 3 /1/2.
Tengo que verla.
Military Intelligence: "The 3 Little Pigs" wolf attacks from the sky. Wright Flyer. It first flew at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, on December 17, 1903, with Orville at the controls. Setting: Orville France famed for its phosphorus deposits.
0:31. "The Wild Boys" 1984 Duran Duran. "Uranium and Atomica Melancholia Idyll" 1945 Salvador Dali.
Existing prints of the film have always been very grimy so such a restoration is very welcome.
Notice the soundtrack features " Funeral March of a Marionette", later to become the theme tune for the TV series "Alfred Hitchcock Presents".
The original soundtrack seems to be in perfect sync with the beautifully-restored image. Great work!
creepy at the end
And with the original 1928 sound track. Fantastic! I've already pre-ordered my copy!
I remember seeing this in the 60s in a big top tent on the local park. I was about 6yo
This looks great. One thought though...1929 would feature Unaccustomed As We Are
0:40 is from Two Tars. For some reason, every print I have ever seen of it always looks like 16mm, soft and generations removed from the camera negative. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has a 35mm fine grain master positive in it's holdings. I wonder if their print is superior to what we have all seen thus far.
Anyone 2024
Que des classiques de la période du muet magnifique et grandiose travail de restauration. Par contre le joyeux pique-nique est parlant lui 1931.
Wonderful! This is screening in our local theater THIS WEEK! So cool.
Wonderful...Looking forward to this✨️🌟✨️
The Year One pkg was terrific and I'm looking forward to seeing this new one. First rate restorations and features ...
❤❤❤ awesome looking restorations 😊
Greatest comedy team ever
This looks amazing and beautiful...❤
I love old films like this. The silent era is fascinating to me
The more I see and read into this little vlassic, the more I can see the horror and dim meaning behind all the frolicking. But that's what I love about it!
I was a kid when I saw this first Cinerama film in 1955 at the Paris Empire Cinerama theater. I remember it as if it was yesterday, I was grabbing my seat during this first roller-coaster sequence ! Later, I have seen all of the real Cinerama films, but the Brothers Grimm one. I don't consider 70mm films as real Cinerama films, the shooting angle isn't wide enough to provide the Cinerama effect. I have also seen two Kinopanarama films, the USSR copy of Cinerama.
Our family went to the Cooper in Denver to see this. WOW! Lowell Thomas still gives me the chills!
Any one know the name of the music piece? Love it
Would
What an amazing piece of film history preserved
I need this! One and Two. One day, maybe one day. 🙏
The only really scary part at the end is the smile the actor does and you can see the mouth's sharp teeth.
If only sound have existed.
Este zorro es como cuando uno mira al gordo y al flaco era lo que le decian cine mudo.
Rode that coaster many times. Even worked at Playland one summer making cotton candy (yuck).
Not quite the same as having the curved screen.
Whenever this vid pops up in my recommendations, I enter just to read the nutjobs' comments saying that the pig swallowed the girl whole. 😂😂😂 You need therapy, fellas
No SmileBox?
That's where they got the hulk thrashes loki bit from in the Avengers movie!! well well...
Whats the song called I wanna learn this on the piano
Is this an actual film from 1907? I have a nagging doubt. It looks too good, no deterioration of the early nitrate film, which is prone to suffer from heat, moisture and ...time.
Looks like he picked a bad day to quit amphetamines!
So enigmatic
im scared ?
00:36 Some may argue this was the precursor to all sword fights on cinema. This wasn't the first put to film, but... if you can think of cinematic swordplay that predates 1920? I'd love to see it for myself. =)
Beautiful picture. Only the music is terrible 😅
I agree. The best way to these when you first get them is with Randy's commentary - this cuts out the music and is very insightful. I much prefer the music used on the "Lost Films" DVDs or even the European box set of 21 DVDs which for the most part used the Beau Hunks orchestra playing the original L & H backing music.
Very enjoyable film ! Great picture quality .
Gotta purchase it!
Brilliant news that this is coming soon. I hope it includes the surviving reel of "Now I'll Tell One".
Indeed it does, in very nice condition.
Très belle restauration de ce formidable Laurel et Hardy les rois du rires pour l éternité. Bravo pour ce très beau travail pour les enfants de nos petits enfants et pour nous qui sommes encorent la.
Wonderful stuff, fantastic restoration.
I have an (unhealthy... maybe) obsession with Cinerama. Love the uploads.
