There have been many misconceptions regarding the cultural identity of the Okun people. This is a result of inadequate historical documentation of the Okun people.
Many people believe that the Okuns are not "true" Yoruba, and in some regions of Nigeria, particularly the North, they are seen as Northerners who have no ties to the "core" Yoruba in Southwestern Nigeria, Benin, and Togo.
On the basis of languages and oral traditions, this video seeks to showcase the Yoruba ancestry of the Okun people.
