"The Bonnie maid of Fife"

"The Bonnie maid of Fife" written by Nick Keir. My good friend and fellow bandmate in The McCalmans Nick Keir would have been 70 this week. When the Macs finished in 2010 Nick and myself continued to tour as a duo. Sadly it wasn't to last. Nick was diagnosed with Cancer in 2012 and died on the 2nd June 2013. He touched all who knew him. Nick could write a love song with the best, this is one of...
The Quiggs “The Fox”
มุมมอง 5672 ปีที่แล้ว
The Quiggs singing “The Fox” (lyrics/music Pernille R. Quigg) This is a song inspired by the encounter with a small fox that was running along our street several nights in a row. It is written as kind of a conversation in which I ask the fox ‘why are you here among the houses on the streets?’ To which the fox answers ‘I was here first!’

"Threads" The Quiggs
มุมมอง 6573 ปีที่แล้ว
The inspiration for this song were a few half finished embroideries that I found after my granny passed away. The needle and thread were still pinned to the cloth as if they were meant to be continued another day... It seemed to me symbolic of how we pass things on from one generation to another. Threads. The needle is threaded pinned in the cloth, left for a moment just to be picked up. The cr...

The clearances were bad, but there was a later 'clearance' of sorts when the government paid people to leave. My grandparents left Caithness in the 20's after 2 years of bad crops and of course the herring were gone. They were 'moss eating poor' and went to Canada and did well. The whole family left- my grandmothers parents and all her brothers and sisters- one with "his boots roond his neck" meaning at the last minute. They all ended up owning decent farms and hated the thought of the old country. They would be astonished at how much I love Caithness and Sutherland, to them it was a terrible cold place, riddled with TB. Now we have warm houses and plenty to eat- funny how things change :)
Beautiful , Thank you
Wonderful, I come back here often just to listen. Wish I could get a copy of this version

A beautiful comfort to listen to your harmonies in the same way that Simon & Garfunkel comfort their listeners. I hope this composition might endure in time to one day become a traditional song.
