Here you will find a variety of elevators ranging from vintage to brand new, traction to hydraulic, manual to automatic, etc!

BEFORE MOD: Wonky Dover Computamatic Traction Elevators at the Marriott Pittsburgh Airport
This was taken in December 2023, just before the mod started. I think the right car was broken at the time. These Dovers had a lot of charm and were fun to ride. These are currently being replaced by OTIS.

Exposed Motor Room! Replacement Westinghouse Elevator in Pittsburgh, PA
มุมมอง 256หลายเดือนก่อน
(November 2023) This was originally a vintage traction elevator of some sort, but had been replaced in the 1970s by Westinghouse. This is a unique install with a smaller cab and an exposed machine room.
MODERNIZED! Haughton (now Right) Elevator at the Forest Hills Plaza Annex Office in Forest Hills, PA
มุมมอง 184หลายเดือนก่อน
Hi! I know its been a good 4 months since my last upload, but better late than never, right? :P Nearly 2 years ago, all of the elevators in this complex were approved for a mod. Those being 2 Traction Westinghouse, 2 Hydraulic Westinghouse and this small 1960s Haughton. So far, only this car has been fully modernized with one Westinghouse Hydraulic car in the process. Installed 1966, Modernized...
Pristine 1920s Vintage Gated OTIS Elevator at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA.

This elevator is located inside St. Joseph Hall. It runs and looks great. Some people might not be a fan of the carpeted walls though.
8 Story! WORN Replacement Dover Impulse Hydraulic Elevator in Pittsburgh, PA
มุมมอง 1596 หลายเดือนก่อน
Unfortunately this used to be a (unknown brand) vintage traction elevator from the 1920s. Instead of getting it modernized, Marshall came in and fully replaced it with an 8 story hydro. Maintenance on this thing is pretty far-fetched as you will see in the video. There is also an old dumbwaiter that hasn't ran in probably 50 years at this point, with the car removed from the shaft
Fancy Older Dover Traditional Hydraulic Elevator at the East Bay Inn in Savannah, GA
มุมมอง 1086 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is pretty nice old dover, however, I'm not sure whats with Savannah and their fake dial indicators. The previous elevators I saw with this indicator were at the Hampton Inn down the street, with newer Thyssenkrupps, yet this 80s relay-controlled Dover has one..
Fast Thyssenkrupp Hydraulic Elevator at the Whitaker Street Parking Garage in Savannah, GA
มุมมอง 2427 หลายเดือนก่อน
(7-29-2023) This is the side elevator of this underground parking garage which takes you onto Ellis Square. There are 2 more identical elevators but they go into a hotel. While these had Aurora fixtures originally, they have been vandalized and replaced countless times with MAD BS (and later BP). Traveling at 200 FPM, these are pretty fast for hydros.
Nice Vintage Otis HPA1500 Lexan Hydraulic Elevator in Pittsburgh, PA
มุมมอง 957 หลายเดือนก่อน
While the overall design may be pretty outdated, I love how this cab blends in with the rest of the building with the fake wood. Aside from that, this is your basic OTIS elevator from the 70s that's in pretty good shape. Filmed on Galaxy S24 Ultra
Cool Scenic Otis Hydraulic Elevator at Gannon University in Erie, PA.
มุมมอง 2549 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is located at the Center for Business Ingenuity. Unfortunately this has seen a modernization but is still a neat scenic elevator.
Neat Relay Logic Dover Impulse Hydraulic Elevator in Preston Hall, Mercyhurst University, Erie, PA.
มุมมอง 1529 หลายเดือนก่อน
Just your typical Dover impulse, but I like how the relay logic makes everything "snappier". The doors move quickly and efficiently. The elevator starts instantly and levels quickly. Just overall a great installation by Dover (Seelar). This elevator was installed in 1990 and is still in good condition today for being in a university.
NEW & OLD! Otis Compass 360 Low-Rise Elevators at the Koppers Tower in Downtown Pittsburgh, PA.
มุมมอง 3629 หลายเดือนก่อน
I would have never expected these neat Schindler RT's to get a full modernization, but here we are. The high-rise bank as of now has been fully modernized, but a few low-rise elevators still remain. We will take a look at what OTIS has done to these elevators, and take one final ride on the remaining Schindlers.
CRAZY FAST Schindler ID High-Rise Elevators At The US Steel Tower in Pittsburgh, PA.
มุมมอง 42210 หลายเดือนก่อน
These used to be 1968/69 Westinghouse Selectomatic elevators before receiving a mod. in 2008 by Schindler with ID. For the number of floors these serve, these elevators are incredibly fast, traveling at 1600 FPM (8.1 m/s). It won't even take you 40 seconds to reach the top floor.
MOD COMPLETE! NEW ICE (Fmr. Westinghouse) Elevator at The Galleria in Mount Lebanon, PA
มุมมอง 44710 หลายเดือนก่อน
This used to be a very nice 1988 Westinghouse elevator with RT fixtures and brass pretty much everywhere. On August 28th, Industrial Commerical (ICE) started a full modernization, and now it has entered service! The elegant brass decor is unfortunately gone, with all-new doors, doorframe, and cab. ICE did a great job on this mod, though, as the new car runs a tad bit quicker and overall runs mo...
AMAZING CAB! Westinghouse Selectomatic High-Speed Elevators at the Gulf Tower in Pittsburgh, PA.
มุมมอง 55410 หลายเดือนก่อน
I finally had the chance to ride these elevators for the first time, despite living here my whole life. The cabs in these elevators are absolutely beautiful and are my choice as my favorite cab design of all time. While the controllers have been replaced by Thyssenkrupp, these still retain a lot of character in the way they run.
LOUD 1950s Pittsburgh Hydraulic Elevator at an Apartment Building in Pittsburgh, PA
มุมมอง 56911 หลายเดือนก่อน
There are 4 identical elevators in this apartment complex. This one, by far, sticks out the most with the way it runs. It has definitely seen better days, but that loud hydraulic pump just screams (quite literally) early hydro.

It used to be westinghouse not US
Freaky deeky
The right 1 had probably just started at the time as Dec. 2023 was right when the service car finished.
That’s definitely illegal.
In PA, it's not illegal to have an exposed machine room if the pump is in a basement area. This is also from the 1970s, possibly before this code requirement, and is classified as a replacement in an existing shaftway, so I guess its exempt.
Ah, I’m surprised there’s not at the very least a caged enclosure around it though
@@VerticalTransit I'm surprised also, I remember an apartment complex where the power units were behind a chain link fence in the parking garage. With a gate for service techs. The description mentions it was once a traction elevator, might have been a basement traction. Could have installed the power unit and controller in this location.
I would be shocked if they use this as a staff elevator instead of using the freight. It doesn't shock me at this point. Its a single slide door left sided COP and it's 2500 lbs. Yeah try and convince me otherwise.
It looks like it runs fine, it's just a little scratched up.
You're right. Its not that bad. I was too harsh on it back then.
@@NathanCE At least the toaster bell still works.
This is amazing with the Otis combasses
I think this is actually late-1930s. This seems more of a newer style, actually not far off from Mercyhurst's Old Main, which is from 1938.
This store shut down recently
That's sad but not surprising. It was a ghost town when I visited last summer and already closed half of it's store. It didn't fit in the luxury environment that the rest of the mall is known for.
I like the new motor tbh
I like it too.
these compass elevators are so awesome. great video. my name is robert.
these compass elevators are awesome.
This is an extremely weird elevator
This is still one of the weirdest elevators I've ever seen. I hope nothing ever happens to it though.
These look awesome!
You sure that 3rd car is a new install?
It's kind of hard to tell where the original elevators were (except for cars 1 and 2). Car 3 is likely in a completely new shaft. Unlike the other cars this has its own state ID as if it's a brand new elevator.
The elevator voices may be a bit to loud for an apartment building haha
“twenty FIRST floor”
Built in 1986 Modernised in 2019
This was installed in 1989.
It was inside the "mall", no?
What is Gannon university
A lot of high-rise elevator systems from the 90s are now getting mods. It's sad but reality.
Wow! Love these. 😊
How did you get in here? I wasn't able to get in when I tried
Such a disappointing mod... was this badly needed?
Not by a long shot. The Westinghouse ran well and it was sad to see it go. The new car actually improved on its speed and leveling though which is always nice.
Sad to hear. They could have simply adjusted the speed
This freight elevator is a gem, still in great working condition and levels on the button. By the depth of the cab it's quite likely a 2:1 roped under-slugged compensating sheaves and on the counterweight with a geared traction machine, defector sheave on the counterweight ropes.
I believe I have been on this. Looks familiar.
I wouldn't be surprised if you have seen these while you were in town
I like how at the end, the doors are about 90% closed and it finally says “doors closing”. People who are blind are a pancake by then if the sensors are down lol.
If I ever come to Pittsburgh, I would like to ride these elevators
Well that was quick.
That is so beautiful
They removed the analog arms!
They used to have arms? Didn't know that
@@NathanCE because you weren’t here!!
@@oscaralvarezproductions2430 Thanks for helping me figure that out. I wouldn't realize that if it wasn't for you
I've lived here 1 year longer than you have & I've ALSO only ridden them 1 time ever lol. In 2019.
These elevators are traction
No, they're Hydraulic. Tallest in the world.
Why not stop on every floor on this wasted video.
Since this is an apartment building it's probably best to go to as few floors as possible.
What's on the second floor that you're dying to see so badly
First elevator uses a version of a car horn while service elevator uses normal buzz
I think the name for those buttons is innovation decorator
This is just a square variant of older Universal. Decorator is slightly different (smaller with brailes that wrap around the button)
Those are lovely 😍
I totally forgot we made a trip to canton 😂 at first I was like you went without me 😂
Sad this will be the only original old Westy left once Doherty's modded. And soon this will probably go :(.
Q
Any chance you could put Saks Fifth Avenue in the title?
The title character limit prevents that.
Nice elevators indeed
What does Level A stand for?
It's amazing that this particular Sears has survived all of those closure waves, the 2018 bankruptcy, and even the pandemic. It wouldn't surprise me if this one ended up being the last full-line Sears store in the state of Florida to shut down. As for the elevator, it really has not really aged too well. Typical for Sears in general, but that depends on the store; any multilevel Sears store that's left now, that is. Anyhow, there are actually eleven Sears stores left in the continental United States as of August 2023. Of course, like a lot of us are aware, the store opened in October of 1988 along with the mall, and this is what the Sears and its elevator are like now, almost 35 years later.
I absolutely love this elevator!
They might end up demolishing the space and filling in the holes if they decide not to add anything new to its space
I would have put negative signs in front of the floors to indicator that they go downwards
Nice Otis 👍
There's an elevator at 0:01 too :)...or technically was.
Nice elevators 👍
Very nice fixtures 👍
