Thanks for posting. Saw this several times back in the day on PBS, and am pleased as punch to be able to see it again.
My Heart is Just Exploding While Experiencing this Film.I was a "child actress/model in the 70's and early 80's. It just took me back to the day I auditioned at the Alvin Theater. They told my mother I sang like a songbird but I was 1/2" too tall. I had sung Evergreen. Thank you so much actresses for sharing your deepest thoughts and feelings. ( I, too had felt like an orphan in my own family and was hoping my "real parents" would come and get me : ) and it was only till later in life that I realized why Annie had such a profound impact on me then, This was just wonderful! And Yes, the Fabulous 70's. Who could ever not love NYC back in the day!!! 💖💖💖💖💖
This was TOOANY COMMERCIALS that you couldn't skip. Otherwise I would have enjoyed the show

Love ❤️ the clips of the adult women doing the hard knock life. Sweat scenes of them singing tomorrow to their little ones.
Sadly lacking performance. Cyrano De Bergerac (1950) is where the gold is at.
Is there anyway to get a better quality version of this recording? I remember it coming on PBS when it originally aired and recorded it on vhs - and always wondered if there was an official release since it’s such a great performance
Whew they got a rough looking cast
Thank you for the post , I saw this in 1980
Been looking for this forever! Thank you so much for putting it on iTunes!
The fact that Jim Walton was in his 50’s and dancing like this is wild.
Why didn’t Julia Louis Dreyfus host this
Cynthia sounds like Bette Davis
Many thanks!! ❤

Wow beautiful and talented singer and dancer❤❤
Ok so there were 7? girls in the original cast? According to the movie, one of those girls wrote a vicious, almost unbelievably horrifying hate letter to one of the other girls. It wasn't the girl who comments on it in the doc, it wasn't the victim herself, and it wasn't the 7 year old. That leaves 4 girls. Who was it?
C'est un crime de traduire Cyrano !
1:45:41 lyrics: L Is for the Long Long road ahead That leads all lovers To the landscape of their dreams Loveland, where everybody lives to love O Is for the Overwhelming Optimism Only lovers know Or so it seems Loveland, where everybody loves to live V Is for the Various Vicissitudes They'll weather Because it's also for the Vow They made together Loveland! Loveland! E Is for the Endless Expectations Lovers elevate so often To extremes Loveland! Lonveland! (If you know what L, A, N, and D stand for, please reply)
1:45:41 Now that is an update! Ising the spoken interjections from 1981’s Loveland, they spell out “Love” and add something to spell “land” after that. Nice combo!
2:12:06 I want to make this chaos more intense by adding more songs from Company, Sweeney Todd, Merrily We Roll Along, A Funny Thing That Happened on the Way to the Forum, Pacific Overtures, A Little Night Music, Assasins, The Frogs, Evening Primrose, etc. and build it up to a big impossible remix, and creacendo to fffffffff. Then it ends in a long big crazy rock and roll chord!!!!! And then, EXPLOSION!!!!!
While Jose Ferrer's Cyrano is legendary, the play and part can never belong to one man. It is too great of a role.
Nope ,Jose did it justice once and for all. You can watch it on repeat and it gets better and better. Not this tripe. No depth or soul, just shallow performance from a young American.
And you couldn’t cut the old ads, otherwise enjoyed
I suffered through the first act. AWFUL.
The others never compared... th-cam.com/video/ZU2ZaaDQOag/w-d-xo.html
All of this years before I was born and yet I grew up watching Annie the movie all the time. It was one of my favorites. I didn’t realize it was first a broadway show.
Weird that "we're ok " was originally between sante fe and ill cover you. Thank god tjat god that got changed
Martha Bryne(Lily) in As The World Turns...I never knew she played a part in Annie-I never was fortunate to see Annie on Broadway- But I saw it at the Pantages with LOUANNE-about 10 times with Louanne--Loved Louanne so much!!! I have taken my kids, parents, nieces, nephews, later years -local theaters, my grand children - My great granddaughter played the roll of Molly this past year--MY FAVORITE OF ALL --STILL listen to the soundtrack
Annie 1977 before or after later this year contact info for Annie wants to be there by side effects of really remember reel 1977
Martha played the role of july and she was actually from the same town as the final two Broadway Annie's Allison Smith and Alyson Kirk all three were from Waldwick New Jersey
I saw this at the Papermill Playhouse and haven't stopped singing the songs. I also signed up for tap lessons with my daughter at the time. Very Infectious.
100 shows i can see why people would say that just saying
Watching this makes one appreciate the genius of George Cukor.
Thank God for heavy metal!
any idea what the broadcast date was?
Ok all I can say was I was absolutely in love with Andrea M, I walked around with my Annie tape everywhere. My cousin and I loved her. We went to the Broadway show in NYC and waited for her autograph and ends up we were standing near her mom . Her mom made sure we got her autograph....Ahhh the care free days when all you needed was your Annie tape and everything was alright in the world 😊
This is great. I saw a wonderful production of Wonderful Town back in the late 70s at the Curran Theater in San Francisco with the wonderful Nanette Fabray as Ruth.
It was an unforgettable show!!!
The young lad on the piano was overwhelmed with a sudden craving for a mouthful of mother's milk.
Ummm it was the Carter Whitehouse who gave us the terrible economy - Not Nixon.
Imagine what the original cast went through
Isaac Mizrahi is no Adrian.
Omg. The one playing Sylvia sounds like Beverly LaSalle.
What special event was it?
A talk show appearance.
Great doco! The entertainment industry can be wonderful but also brutal, especially for children.
Joanna Pacitti was such an adorable actress that played Annie. I always felt bad the way she was replaced.
Do you know what I just realized remember her being used her story was looking back flash back past life look back on her own way of being very special edition episode season start show hollywood she feels crying before saying she was feeling falls like following her own feelings
Aileen Quinn is the only true annie
🙄
Tell that to Andrea McArdle. Aileen was fine but too cute. I prefer Annie with a tougher edge in attitude and appearance. But I get it...we tend to lean toward things we grew up with or saw first.
Eileen Quinn was not the true embodiment of Annie. She was too cute and not tough
