The 1967 Shelby GT500KR, or "King of the Road", was a limited-production version of the 1967 Shelby GT500 that was built to be a serious performer on the street and the track:
Engine
The GT500KR had a 428 Cobra Jet engine with high-flow heads, which produced an estimated 400 horsepower.
Body
The GT500KR had a lightweight carbon fiber hood that helped cool the engine bay. It also had side vents that helped pull heat away from the exhaust manifold.
Name
Carroll Shelby came up with the name "King of the Road" after learning that Chevrolet was planning to name their new Corvette the same.
Rarity
The 1967 Shelby GT500 is rare and highly sought after by collectors. It was the first GT500 and the last one built at the original Shelby American facility in Venice, California.
Value
A 1967 Shelby GT500 in good condition with average specifications is typically worth around $154,000.
