St Austell A391 to A30 Link Road Update May 2024
มุมมอง 51523 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Another update of the construction progress of the new A30 Victoria to St Austell Link Road project. Despite the very poor weather and all numerous storms that we have been having the past few months, during the dry spells there is significant progress being made , although the construction finish date is 2025, but it could be anytime during 2025 when hopefully the road project will be complete...
Merrivale Quarry
มุมมอง 17221 วันที่ผ่านมา
This quarry was until recently still active having started up in 1876. It only closed in 1997 and was known as Tor Quarries. The quarry is fairly large and a huge scar on the landscape as it is seen from the B3357 and the hamlet of Merrivale. The Grimstone and Sortridge leat drops into the quarry basin before starting out again on the other side. The quarry would have provided granite for New S...
Roadford Reservoir 2024

Roadford Lake, also known as Roadford Reservoir is a man-made reservoir fed by the River Wolf. It is located to the north-east of Broadwoodwidger in West Devon, eight miles (13 km) east of Launceston and is the largest area of fresh water in the southwest of England. Operated by South West Water, it directly supplies water for North Devon. It also supplies Plymouth and southwest Devon via relea...
Blackpool Pit 2024

A quick fly around the former Blackpool China Clay pit, showing how high the water level is in the flooded pit. In recent months with all the rain we have had, it seems to have taken it's toll on the water level in the pit, although I'm led to believe that the water is monitored and drained off, the water level is the highest I've ever seen. The pit closed in November 2007 after being in operat...
The Night Sky

A short flight basically up to film the night sky of St Austell, the wind being too strong to venture away from where I'm stood, Storm Kathline has been bombarding the South West of England here, and so this flight and look at the night sky was done within a small window of opportunity in the 49 Mph wind gusts that we had been experiencing during the day, that had subsided for about an hour or ...

Burrator Reservoir is a reservoir on the south side of Dartmoor in the English county of Devon. It is one of a number of reservoirs and dams that were built over the course of the 19th and 20th centuries. How full is our reservoir this time of year I hear you all ask ? Well looking at my video it seems that it's on the point of tumbling down the plug hole as you can see. This reservoir last summer was at it's lowest point in years at around 22% and many of the locals had never seen the water level so low. Fortunately with all the recent rain and over the months prior to that, the water level is ...

What's been happening at the Singlerose Roundabout at the top of Stenalees in February 2024. There are 4 way traffic lights again causing long delays at peak hours of the day, forcing traffic to seek alternative routes through Bugle and Penwithick making them a lot busier for commuters as a lot of other people are doing the same thing. They are now making alterations to the approaches to the ne...

A30 Link Road Victoria to Stenalees October Update 2023
Porthtowan = Port of the Dunes. Tywarnhayle = House on the Estuary. The landscape comes alive when you know what the names mean!
Hi Fred. Bit different this time, thanks. The Barbican, the best place to be in Plymouth. In our car, eating fish and chips, lol! Cheers.
Thanks Geoff, we enjoyed our ice cream’s as well as the nice calm and sunshine :)
Saw the remains of the village in the 1964 film The System and it made me want to know more about it.
This is a prime example of how not to do a video. Waving the camera about is not the way to do a video, especially in dark tunnels. Read how to make videos before posting this sort of stuff!
You know what I'm fed up with it waste of money wasted time causing more chaos for travellers ie motors deliveries and so forth you might as well put it back where it was just make it a little wider and that's it I tell you something I would not watch these ever again so please remove it now or do I have to file a complaint no further comment
Hi Fred. Been past here loads of times and always wondered about the workings of the quarry. Thousands of Tons (English spelling!!) of waste granite rock, haha. Thanks.
Hi Geoff, yes I've driven past it a few times and thought it looked interesting, but at ground level or coming down the road you can see the extent of the hole, thought maybe that it was connected to the Prison up the road, but haven't seen any connection with it :)
Sadly it shows Plymouths unkept and desolate side hidden in plain sight....but is it better or even worse today? I moved to Canada in 1976 and my last visits back were depressing to see the lack of civic pride.
There are pictures of mine on here of Devonport Kings Road, obviously pirated so please remove them, Bernard Mills
how different that route is now, especially from Carluddon onwards
great video. I've always wanted to see that pit - you cant see anything from the road as the berm does a great job of hiding it from view
really interesting to see my daily commute from an aerial perspective. well done
Excellent video and great to see the spillway in action! Keep up the good work with your videos, always interesting, even for us 'locals'!!
Thank you very much!
Like the video, hate the music....
To much aerial footage
Is certainly been rough mate
Very hit or miss mate, managed to get the drone up at around 7.45 last night when the wind had calmed down for around an hour otherwise it's one storm after the other at the moment :(
@@fredflintstone1024 yeah let's hope and pray for better weather I think we all fed up with this wet stuff in wind
Very interesting Fred, but I had to go to the bathroom for a pee three times, watching all that cascading water, lol! Thanks.`
Thanks Geoff, it’s wasn’t supposed to have that effect lol
@@fredflintstone1024 It's just the same with looking out of the window watching the rain, haha
yo i go here w my friends sometimes
What a waste of what looks like a good building... what were their reasons for moving out of it... couldn't do their shopping in their dinner hour
Parts of this video was interesting but alot of it was annoyingly rubbish... did you actually watch this video before uploading it to youtube? You could have left some of the subtitles on a little longer so we don't have to pause to read it and some of the subtitles were hard to read as they blended into the background picture and couldn't see alot of what happened in the tunnels as it was too dark.
Hi Fred. My family lived here during the war, and my three brothers went to the local school. Early 50's. myelder brother and I used to roam around Farmer Worden't fields, during the Rabbit Mixy outbreak. I'll never forget the hundreds of carcases and poorly bunnies. Farm was off Rose Hill, now South West Water, and mainly covered by housing now. Thanks.
Is this right? A UK infrastructure project being completed?
Hi Fred. Nice update, thanks, but looks a bit damp! I guess the work is a little behind schedule. Take care.
Thanks Geoff, yes the weather has been very unpredictable since and before the new year which hasn’t helped progress, apparently they are still on track to finish sometime in 2025 ha ha
nice update :) one recommendation is to render to 1080p as the 360p lets down the quality. but a welcome update thankyou.
Thanks for that, check back later as TH-cam will have rendered it to 4K
What a metro tram system Plymouth could have if they kept all these lines in the city
👍👍👍
Hi Fred. Fascinating video. I've known of the Pits at Lee Moor, but never actually known what the area looked like. Take care.
Thanks Geoff, glad you found it interesting, glad the weather held out yesterday afternoon :)
Finally found the range yesterday! It's very overgrown.
Great video. I worked in Chilmark Stone mine for 2 years. It’s where the rail line leads to if you follow it across the road and down the hill.
Thanks, it’s a very interesting place, especially the regional Nuclear Bunker across the road from the transfer station :)
Nice shot of the up Brighton on Ford viaduct. Fond memories of seeing the ol West Country’s running around Friary, Laira & North Rd 62-64. Southern lines were lifted around 1966, after closure.
As a gay black man I love Stenalees ❤
Noooooooooooooooo Its oy in that last two weeks or so that thay have actually d9ne any work for months it has sat while thay made the odd appearance this roundabout has become a joke the only reason thay have had to redo some of the work is cos the messed it up the first time sirously who cant read a set of plans showing where things need to go its not hard
Was that a near miss at 3.37??
Nearly was i think, he did have his indicator on though, more than what most drivers do on roundabouts these days :)
Have you been to Nos Mayo , Newton Ferris . It back from start point nearer to Plymouth. Hidden gem ,when tide out hidden bridge called Vos disapears when tide comes in .
Can’t say i’ve seen or heard of that one Kevin, may have to look that one up, are there any dumped fruit machines in the river near it for a navigation land mark lol
Used to use this many times whilst on the Night Traffic Car as a very quick way to get from St Blazey to Fowey - always fun on a shout winging through it
Now at the age of 69 years as a teenager I use to walking. The abandoned railway tunnels in devonport and stone House creek , the line from Albert road station used to run along the bottom of what's known as brick fields out to the port at mutton cove to meet up with Atlantic going steamers from the USA. That station closed in 1912 , the old site at mutton cove. I used to fish but now it is a multi-million pound yacht. Marina overlooking the entrance to the river Tamar. It brings fit memories It's nice to see that someone else is still interested in the old steam railway tunnels of Plymouth which still echo the sound of steam locomotives in their Hay Day .🇬🇧👍🏼
Thanks for your feedback Graham, shame the footage wasn't better, but camera phones 10 years or so ago were not as good as they are nowadays. We may have to revisit and see what's happening with it all now.
My literal childhood playground.
I do recall walking along the front of those cottages in 1982, there was one elderly lady still living there . Most fascinating lady to talk to. Her cottage still standing , with blue doors.
Sorry but I gave up watching g after 14 minutes of camera pointing all over the place zoomed in so you couldn’t see the context of anything and when the other guy is pointing something out, the camera is pointing at tree branches… sorry it’s like someone accidently turned the camera on and forgot it was running.
Me too. The subject matter is interesting but the camerawork is abysmal. Cameras are best kept in one place. Steady hands if you don't have a tripod.
Sorry to be critical but the camera spends more time pointing at the ground, zoomed in, and about 10% of the time shooting anything of interest … sorry just saying
Thanks for your comment, unfortunately the camera I had at the time was a sport do camera which was handheld with no viewfinder on it so it was difficult to see what exactly it was pointing at :) Might have to visit again as that was taken about 8 or more years ago and camera technology has vastly improved since then :)

U can tell thay dont give a crap about the locals or the environment
❤ Wow what a great location to film and fly the drone. Well done and thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks :)
Great video! Liked and subscribed 😃
Awesome thank you!
Great video Fred, really enjoyed that one.
Thanks for that, it was quite blustery wind wise and freezing cold or I would have stayed longer, but I'm going to try and get around a few more this year :)
Local to me and a unique mine. Great video mate
Thanks 👍
Another stunning video and history. Thanks Fred. OK. to use a freeze frame screen shot as a screen saver? Only polite to ask. Cheers.
Thanks Bruce, and no problem at all :)
Anywhere in the world that there is a hole in the ground there will be a Cornishman at the bottom. 🤎
Where's the "garden" in this "garden village". I know it's marketing tripe, but really it's just endless tiny concrete boxes squeezed together, with barely an inch of green anywhere. Not fooling anybody. Might as well call it a "tropical beachfront paradise village," which would be equally true.
I know exactly what you mean, just looking at the sales and marketing literature, i thought at the time what a load of codswallop, portraying that there is a nice lakeside feel to the place with people kayaking on it and everything's all like this in paradise lol, how untrue that all is of course, its built on industrial wasteland, with god knows what sort of industrial pollution lies underneath, and on the fringes of deep and dangerous clay pits which is far from safe to do much in the way of the speculated leisure activities they are portraying, as you probably can't see the bottom of it, let alone know whats been left in there from china clay activities over the many years that it's been abandoned.
Little boxes, little boxes. Little boxes made of ticky tacky.
When I first saw this village being built I wondered why anyone would want a house here. 'Lakeside'?? Very deep and dangerous open clay pits. I wonder how long before someone drowns here? Looks like a batch of Lego Houses, just scattered on a barren waste land, which, of course, it is! Cornwall Council Planners obviously never visited the site as often as they ought to have done. Although the houses are built on concrete rafts, that won't stop the ground underneath from moving. Watch out for the 'settlement cracks'! Thanks for the update. Geoff
That’s why the insurance companies are kicking off because of the fact that they are built the way they are on concrete rafts and the ground is susceptible to movement as it’s brought in foundations not original. Plus the fact that the price tags of the various house designs are not within anybodies means of getting a mortgage, get real the average wage down here is nothing like the 35k the chancellor was talking about helping with his cut to national insurance are these people in whitehall even in the same country as the rest of us this far west ?? lol
