His foot position is much farther to the bow than I would expect at his size. Giant boat or he likes his center of mass closer to the bow?

imagine this: it's your first HOCR, and coach puts you in a single. you are doing good and then, this man flies past you and you are like, "wtf is that Mahe?"
Did that happen to you? It'd be cool. Reminds me of when I was down at my first Eights Head of the River Race on the Thames, many years ago. We were heading down to the start of the race and were just approaching the starting line when the first boats started to be set off. I still remember it so clearly that one of the very first boats was the Leander VIII and in that crew was Steve Redgrave. I'd never seen a boat move so fast in my life. They rocketed past us. It was stunning, truly awe inspiring, intimidating all at once. I was so impressed, I knew I'd never forget that moment even then.

Hi guys i noticed how far back to the bow mahe is positioned, i would have thought that being further in the stern would be better for keeping the bow out of the water as the stern is much wider and probably gives better displacement
Thinking about it, he does come up the slide quite quickly so having him placed that far into the bow would reduce the stern dropping into the water at the catch. Just my thoughts

What amazes me is how few looks over his shoulder he takes. Even when coming up to the bridges. I'm assuming he practiced and practiced the course (and has probably raced it many times?)…
@@plankytronixx he used to row out of the union boat club on the Charles. He knows that course like the back of his hand.
