Filmed at Summer Lodge caravan park Indian Queens Nr Newquay September 1993. As I recall it was the day before Phils wedding! I went back to Summer Lodge some years later only to find Phil had sadly passed away (not sure when) Just thought anyone who knew him might like to see this.
Listening to him now just reminds me of the country we have lost.

I worked at Summer Lodge in 1992 & 1993, Phil taught me so much about the business and was a pleasure to work with. I still have very hazy memories of those years as we had some great late night parties back then Ben has now retired and is living in Portugal

how do you know when the wood has turned to coal and is ready to be taken out?
You have a vent hole in the can you have all the charcoal wood in. The vent hole lets off all the gases. The gases catch fire and the smoke is a yellowish color. Once the gases stop burning and it stops smoking, it's done. If the smoke turns a grayish color, that means your charcoal is overlooked and it's burning. Hope that helps.

I'm fairly certain that it doesn't matter if you have potassium in your piss. The potassium is added later by means of 'potash'; literally the ash in the bottom of the pot after leached water from wood ash is boiled down.

The smoke pipes are on wrong direction. They should point downwards, to the fire, and burn the smoke and heat the kiln with the burning smoke.
This is a very very old kiln.
